Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

So the moral of this thread is that older women can't do anything right.

P.S you too will get old...

NiceGerbil · 03/01/2021 18:47

Bingo, destiny!

Although tbf society isn't keen on young women either, a lot of the time!

Iwasonceabrownie · 03/01/2021 18:49

I might as well just throw myself off the nearest cliff 😥

Destinysdaughter · 03/01/2021 18:53

But...If we can't do anything right, then none of it matters and we can wear/ do what the hell we want! I think we've earnt the right to do that just by being here for so long and overcoming whatever life has thrown at us.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/01/2021 18:56

Except the ones posting their list.

They're the only ones that found the magical ways of youth ,class and style. They'll still look 30 when they're 100 sneering at the current "oldies" for dressing like they're still in 2020.

umpteennamechanges · 03/01/2021 18:56

@NiceGerbil

Is a Zimmer frame ageing?

And yeah Denise Van outen what a minger who'd want to look like her!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I think DVO is stunning.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with her in terms of herself.

Just that the hair dye she's using and the eyeshadow she was using on that particular programme was ageing.

It made her look much older than she is.

Isn't that the point of the thread?

Destinysdaughter · 03/01/2021 19:02

The only genuine piece of advice that I would give is that black can be very unflattering as you age as on certain complexions it drains your face. Wear the colours that suit you and the styles that suit your body shape and you'll look good whatever your age.

Conversely, wear what you want and don't give a fuck. Either is good.Smile

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 19:08

Am amazed no one (on page one anyway) mentioned teeth - I think dodgy teeth are the most ageing thing. Not lovely at any age, but deffo easier to get away w when you are young.

Other than that - grey hair, unless beautifully done. Flat, too dark die jobs.

Matt makeup. Too much make-up unless beautifully done.

Wearing the clothes/hair style of your youth. Much more ageing than wearing the style of current youth IMO.

Other than that obvious things like moulded soles, and anything that looks like cruise wear.

Don't understand the fringe thing, think that depends on your face as at any age.

WendelFong · 03/01/2021 19:08
  • If your fez is too small for your head
  • Wearing all your clothes at once
  • Blinking too fast
  • Moonwalking round the supermarket
  • Driving a traction engine
  • Playing a harpsichord with your feet
TwirlingTwizzler · 03/01/2021 19:19

I got to page 7 so I have no idea of what's been said from there.

But fuck me, slippers, bright lipstick, fleeces what the fuck is wrong with a perfectly normal garment to keep you warm is beyond me, ditto slippers fringes, foundation, dyed hair, blah blah blah.

The only thing that's ageing is lying in a coffin, life extinct.

Wear what you want, have your hair how you want, look old, look young, look trendy. Literally only the insecure worry about these things.

LynetteScavo · 03/01/2021 19:20

@NeverDropYourMoonCup You've summed up the thread perfectly.

TwirlingTwizzler · 03/01/2021 19:22

I forgot to put the three key elements to dressing well that will make no difference to how old you look.

Wear shapes that suit you.
Wear colours that suit you.
Get the neckline right.

goteam · 03/01/2021 19:27

I completely missed the point of the thread and didnt list any clothes or cosmetics.

I think blindly following fashion regardless of whether it suits you is ageing.

Over plucking eyebrows and too much foundation as we get older as it sits in lines. I actually look younger with no make-up but unfortunately I also look uglier so have to wear some. Tinted moisturisers and cream blush are better for me (age 41)

Anyone got a picture of these mumboots?

Sexnotgender · 03/01/2021 19:56

Anyone got a picture of these mumboots?
I picture something like this?

Or a more blocky heel and often a square toe.

My mother considers Nicola Sturgeon to be a style icon. Unfortunately she's an opinionated woman (my mum, as well as Nicola) and insists on getting het up that we won't cut off our hair (just like mum and Nicola) now that we are over 40.

DianaOfTheLakes · 03/01/2021 20:00

I see. It's that neither here nor there heal. Just go for a proper heal or go flat and chunky?

@Sexnotgender

DianaOfTheLakes · 03/01/2021 20:07

Oops heel.

MaelyssQ · 03/01/2021 20:07

I want to know about all the 40 - 50 year olds, the ones who post on the 'how old do you think I look' photo threads that crop up now and again, the ones who claim to still get ID'd for alcohol and cigarettes, who claim to be constantly mistaken for their teenage son's girlfriend - what do they wear? What's their skincare regime?

ShivD · 03/01/2021 20:08

Botox, it makes younger people look older.

Ensure that tattoos on your breasts are not visible as when they sag the image droops a bit.
DianaOfTheLakes · 03/01/2021 20:14

Is a Uniqlo duvet coat ageing?

Like a long puffa. Probably depends what you wear it with...

I'd go for ankle skimming jeans and trainers or bikers and a fjallraven backpack.

Poppingnostopping · 03/01/2021 20:15

Nicola Sturgeon is a great example of a woman who, whilst she may not follow fashion especially, and doesn't have an exceptionally youthful hairstyle, she has a strong iconic look which is perfect for her job, she's easily recognizable, and has her own 'brand' which is very difficult to do. She wears a lot of bold colours and doesn't change her look a lot which works to her advantage given what she's trying to achieve.
