Trainers after 40?

Mumoflil1 · 28/12/2020 18:42

Hi all,

So I hit the big 4-0 next week.

So, over lockdown whilst working from home, my 'style' (if I did have any Grin) has completely gone and now I go mostly everywhere in trainers. But as I get to 40 I wonder if I'm too old for them? What do people think? If you do think acceptable, what types do you suggest for us 40+ ladies. I really am clueless Confused Also, any other lockdown wardrobe tips would be fab x

I bought an £8 pair from tesco a yer ago. They have been the must have wardrobe staple during lockdown, coping both with tesco and thick mud. They are currently on the radiator after their hundredth washing machine trip and still look and feel like new.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 28/12/2020 18:46

Are you joking?? Any trainers you like, jesus, you're only 40.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 28/12/2020 18:49

I bloody hope not, OP why on earth would 40 be too old for trainers?!

I'm buying Vans next payday as a birthday treat for myself. I care not for this age bollocks, the minute I do I think I'll crumble into dust or something.

I’m 41 and have no plans to ever stop wearing trainers. I wear Converse and Nike Blazers. Currently rocking a pair of silver Air Force Ones!

Daydrambeliever · 28/12/2020 18:50

Ffs. Please don't live your life imposing imaginary rules on to yourself.

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 18:57

Any age is fine.

My granny wore trainers in the 80s, sent by cousins in the US, she called them her Sneakers.

Somemeht · 28/12/2020 18:59

Shock Say what?

XiCi · 28/12/2020 18:59

Exactly this. FFS!

StanfordPines · 28/12/2020 18:59

I love my vans and I get New Balance when I can find vegan ones.
I’m 45. What else would I wear on my feet?

TinselToedElf · 28/12/2020 19:01

I'm over 50 and I've got about 10 pairs.

bluebluezoo · 28/12/2020 19:01

Why on earth do women limit themselves by arbitary ages?

Seen it so many times. Am I too old for long hair, is 30 too old for x, y,z.

Wear what the fuck you like.

My rules for fashion:

  1. Do I like it?
  2. Is it comfortable?
  3. Will I wear it?
  4. Will I wear it enough to justify the price?

That’s it. Don’t see why age would come into it.

bluebluezoo · 28/12/2020 19:03

Also, if you don’t wear trainers wtf do you wear?

I live in trainers. Flipflops in the summer.

Orthopaedic granny shoes in beige?

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/12/2020 19:03

Why would people over 40 not want comfortable footwear? Wear what you want.

Mumoflil1 · 28/12/2020 19:05

Bluebluezoo that did crack me up! Grin

Sick of seeing threads that promote ageist ideas about clothes and style.

There isn't some magical moment were the clock strikes 12 and you must surrender everything you ever loved, get a blue rinse, and don a twin set and pearls and some practical slacks.

I am 40 shortly. It would never occur to me, not in a million years, that I was not ALLOWED to wear anything.

I will wear what the fuck I want til the day I die.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 28/12/2020 19:09

Heavens! Thought I / we had exterminated these threads.

Why do some people hate women so much?

Ellapaella · 28/12/2020 19:16

Weirdest question ever.
Even if you do believe anyone over the age of 40 should dress like a Nun what would you wear to the gym, to go running or walking if not trainers?

Mumoflil1 · 28/12/2020 19:17

Err yeah, this was a light hearted question people. The question was solely about trainers and I thought I posted on the 'style and beauty' board Confused. I didn't think I'd be positioning myself as some handmaid's tale, gender, age oppressed victim by asking the question. Wow?

OP posts:
Plonque · 28/12/2020 19:18

40 you say? Oh yeah, them K shoes at the back of Clark's shoe shops are definitely all you're fit for now Confused

MeMarmiteYouJam · 28/12/2020 19:19

I am turning 40 sooner rather than later, and wear converse almost always. Loves them, I do.

thedevilinablackdress · 28/12/2020 19:21

You seem to be serious OP... So what makes you think you'd be too old to wear them trainers. Where did this idea come from?

thedevilinablackdress · 28/12/2020 19:22

And, in terms of what ones to wear; any ones that you like, can afford, and fit.

Eviebeans · 28/12/2020 19:23

I'm 58 and my motto is "never knowingly underdressed" and if that means leopard print trainers it's got nothing to do with anyone else (I only own trainers and flip flops)

JacobReesMogadishu · 28/12/2020 19:23

Stares at my Marvel Vans. Eh, no....wear what you like.
