But I will ask for it to be removed in a little while just for privacy reasons as it's my Uncle & colleagues with Philip.

CliffsofMohair · 09/04/2021 20:19

Wow @TracyBeakerSoYeah

So Edward will be the new DoEd? New double breasted suit for the occasion? Hopefully Sophie will get a nice new tiara 👸

latedecember1963 · 09/04/2021 20:32

Thank you for sharing your photo, TracyBeaker. Black and white photos are so atmospheric.

ApplyWithin · 09/04/2021 20:32

After the Queen dies apparently.

LadyEloise · 09/04/2021 20:40

Thank you Tracy for sharing that.

I see we have a new Irish poster on this thread - assuming the CliffsofMohair is from Ireland.
Extraordinary so many on this very British topic are from a republic that historically didn't have a great relationship with their Crown rulers.

paradyning · 09/04/2021 20:50

That's an amazing pic @TracyBeakerSoYeah thanks for sharing

AdaColeman · 09/04/2021 21:03

That's a lovely family link @TracyBeakerSoYeah, thanks so much for sharing.

In your photo, as always, Phil is immaculately turned out, if only he had introduced Boris to his tailor, or even to a comb, it would have been a service to the nation!

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/04/2021 21:04

That's a great photo, Tracy.

I think that technically, Charles is now Duke of Edinburgh. When Charles becomes king, the title will merge with the crown, and he can then issue new Letters Patent giving Edward the title.

frugalkitty · 09/04/2021 21:49

Yes, Edward can be regranted the title once Charles becomes King. I think it will be interesting to see who make up the 30 mourners at the funeral. The DM mention Fergie, but I'd have thought the DofE would have her on the banned list!

Lovely photo Tracy thank you for sharing.

hoteltango · 09/04/2021 21:54

I don't know how Philip's funeral would have been organised in ordinary times, but I hope the covid restrictions will mean that it will be very private. The Queen is very good at not showing her emotions, but she's not just the Queen in this respect, she's a widow after 73 years of marriage.

I wasn't very impressed with the way the BBC handled the situation at first. Their news website described Philip's mother, Princess Alice, as "a daughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten". It stayed like that for about an hour until it was corrected.

MotherofPearl · 09/04/2021 22:36

That's an amazing photo Tracy.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/04/2021 23:54

Thank you all for your appreciation.
I'm quite touched.
I think all of us stalwart posters have seen it, though I have sent a pm to Maireas as I'm not sure if she's seen it.
Before I ask MNHQ to remove the photo post in the morning is there anyone else who I think might like to see it?
Apologies if I've forgotten anyone x

MaudTheInvincible · 10/04/2021 00:01

Thank you for sharing the photo Tracy. They all look very dashing and handsome. Such different times.

Not new @LadyEloise, frequent Hiberno namechanger . I’m here since @QueenoftheAndals started the very first thread. I’ve always found it interesting that there are so many of us on the threads. Not so strange though given we grew up watching U.K. telly. In face my next name may be @FrequentHibernoNamechanger :)
LarsErickssong · 10/04/2021 00:14

Thanks for sharing that @TracyBeakerSoYeah what a wonderful photo for you too have.

MrsFin · 10/04/2021 00:26

@ApplyWithin

How will they decide the 30 I wonder?
1.Queen 2.Charles
  1. Camilla
  2. William
  3. Kate
  4. Harry
  5. Anne
  6. Edward
  7. Sophie
  8. Andrew
10. Beatrice 11. Eugenie 12. Zara 13. Peter 14. Duke of Gloucester 15. Duchess of Gloucester 16. Duke of Kent 17. Duchess of Kent 18. Beatrice's husband 18. Eugenie's husband 19. Anne's husband 20. Zara's husband 21. Peter's wife 22. Sarah Armstrong 23. David Armstrong

I give up after that. Is Philip in touch with his nephews and nieces? There are loads of them - his sisters were very fertile!

Hairydilemma · 10/04/2021 07:25

RIP The Duke of Edinburgh - the end of an era. The Queen must be bereft - all those years with someone by your side.

I agree with pp, I hope Covid gives them the opportunity/excuse for a really private family funeral.

Re the funeral guests, I think Peter and his wife have separated so that might be one off the list. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, would they be there? And would Edward and Sophie’s children be considered old enough? He was their grandfather after all and they’re not little children.

Can’t think of anyone else beyond that. At 99 most of your friends have probably gone before you!

paradyning · 10/04/2021 07:36

@TracyBeakerSoYeah can you pm which is your uncle or is that too much!

megletthesecond · 10/04/2021 07:53

I think Louise and James will be there.
Hopefully not the Kents though.

The Duke probably had good friends from his carriage riding days. Possibly a Navy representative too.

MrsFin · 10/04/2021 07:59

Kent is the Queen's cousin, same as Glos.
I agree the Wessex kids are probably old enough now, so that's 21.
Maybe someone from the Mountbatten family. DofE was very close to them I think.
Is he really not in touch with any of his own family? You never hear about them.

banivani · 10/04/2021 08:23

Thank you for sharing that photograph Tracy!

Theory: Irish society is very family oriented (at best) and clannish (at worst), and very focused on history, traditions and remembrance which leads to a stronger sense of individuals shaping history, meaning the relationships with the British royalty is personal, the history of those individuals becomes Irish history too, leading to an interest in the individuals who are in the uk royal family today.

Maireas · 10/04/2021 09:21

Tracy - that's a great picture, I always think personal memories are so interesting at times like this. I expect Uncle Bob had lots of stories!

Kent's mother Marina is PP's first cousin too
Maireas · 10/04/2021 09:54

Yes, so the 3 Kent siblings plus spouses (although Alexandra is widowed).
Plus Pamela Hicks née Mountbatten?
