Hello - let's hope we get a bit more glamour this year and fingers crossed for some tiara watching....

Prince Louis's fiancé does look a lot like Tessy, I agree @paradyning.

I missed the ITV wedding retrospective yesterday but might try to watch it on catch up. Uncle Gary certainly is a loose cannon.

megletthesecond · 08/04/2021 18:19

lady apparently Carole had called him when Catherine had got engaged. He was meant to be sworn to secrecy but told everyone he was in a meeting with. What a prize idiot (if it's true).

On keeping with the style and beauty theme I'd forgotten how slinky her old Issa dresses were.

Prince Phillip has died aged 99. I’m sad he didn’t see the century.

LarsErickssong · 09/04/2021 12:12

Prince Phillip has passed away this morning, obviously not unexpected but a hard day for HM and the rest of the family. He certainly had good innings!

MaudTheInvincible · 09/04/2021 12:14

RIP Thanks

gingercat02 · 09/04/2021 12:20

Sad Prince Philip didn't make 100 and I'm sure they are devastated like any family. I wonder what will happen now. Under normal circumstances I assume it would have been a full state funeral. Anyone think Harry will come home (without Megs and Archie presumably)?

Sky news are saying he didn't wish for a state funeral so it will most likely be a royal ceremonial funeral. I'm assuming the family knew this was coming so I do wonder whether Harry could already be over here, I'm sure he will attend the funeral.
banivani · 09/04/2021 12:28

Very sad for the family.

MotherofPearl · 09/04/2021 12:35

Oh gosh, I feel really sad for HMQ and the whole family.

frugalkitty · 09/04/2021 12:37

I knew something was up when they started playing the national anthem in Greggs! Blush It's such a shame he didn't make it to 100, but what an interesting life he led. Whatever plans may be in place, I think it's vital that the family don't have a funeral that breaks covid regulations, they need to lead by example.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 09/04/2021 12:38

So sad that he didn't make it to 100.

They were a very dashing couple in their younger years.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/04/2021 12:43

So sad for Lilibet as Philip was her right arm & the love of her life.
Sad for the rest of the family too.
I hope he passed peacefully & wasn't in pain.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/04/2021 12:45

I, too, hoped that he would make it to 100. RIP Prince Philip.

latedecember1963 · 09/04/2021 12:46

How sad for the Queen. I watched the programme about the Queen and Prince Philip on tv last night. It was fascinating to watch what seemed like another world in many ways because so much of the footage is so many decades old.

Maireas · 09/04/2021 12:48

Lilibet will feel lonely now, that's a long time to be married, and a long time to be a royal consort. He didn't want a massive funeral.

Delurking to say rip. Feel very sad for the queen.

Horsemad · 09/04/2021 13:17

😟 sad news for the Royals today. Such a shame he didn't make it to 100 and receive a telegram off HM.

LadyEloise · 09/04/2021 13:53

May Phillip rest in peace.
His early years must have been very tough.
He did his job well as Consort.

AdaColeman · 09/04/2021 14:07

RIP Philip.
I always had a soft spot for Phil, even though his outspoken sense of humour could sometimes get him into hot water.

I met him during his carriage driving days, he was so charming.

Recently, I came across photos of his stag night, he was devastatingly handsome, no wonder Liz fell for him hook, line and sinker!

Maireas · 09/04/2021 14:45

A very dislocated childhood. He wasn't accepted straight away as Elizabeth's fiancé because he was such an outsider. Also, the issue of who his sisters were married to, so soon after the war.

Good job he doesn't want a massive funeral as it's needs to be limited to 30 like the rest of us

ApplyWithin · 09/04/2021 16:41

How will they decide the 30 I wonder?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/04/2021 17:12

@AdaColeman I suppose it is ok to let you all into a little secret now.
My late great Uncle used to work with Philip in the early days (50s/60s) & always said he was a great boss, very down to earth & very funny.

Maireas · 09/04/2021 17:27

Lovely and generous tribute from the Obamas. A reflection of what intelligent and sensitive people they are.
That's a great connection, @TracyBeakerSoYeah!!
