Are there any perfumes you absolutely hate?

Just that really.
Reason for asking, I ordered blind ( stupid I know) a Liz Earle perfume. Even wanting to try them, no chance of testing at the moment, so picked one that loads of reviews said was gorgeous, favourite perfume, ever, signature scent, always getting stopped & asked what it was etc. The description sounded ok. It came & I hate it, it actually makes me feel sick when I smell it, couldn’t wait to scrub it off. It’s so persistent though!

Any of the Charlie scents-it’s my nickname and every single year my mother would buy me a different one-I had all the colours in the end

They all smell the same-cheap,sickly and by god do they linger

Thought I’d got rid of them-and my daughter started wearing them!

They where just as bad twenty years on…

Shalimar smells like toilet cleaner
Nina Ricci L’air du Temps smells like cat wee (on me)
Love Pierre Balmain Jolie Madame

IfNotNow12 · 16/12/2020 13:14

@goldielockdown2

I love some of the heavy ones mentioned here so I'm glad they work for me but I was very disappointed by Shalimar. Since it's a great classic I was hoping I would smell 'grown up' and sophisticated but it smells like old bedding mixed in with curry powder and a bit of cat wee on me :(
Same!! I always wanted to love it, I'm a huge Oriental fan. It smells like burning rubber and bin juice. Also hate Angel, Giorgio and Cool Water. Looove Chloe Narcisse though in TINY doses it's delicious.
TheSilentStars · 16/12/2020 13:15

I don't think other than the odd Tom cat that sneaks into the garden (4160 Tuesdays Walk in the Woods or sth definitely has a hint of stale male urine) I've ever smelt cat wee.

caperplips · 16/12/2020 13:16

@TheSilentStars it was definitely POAL and I actually was given a sample of it when I was buying a different perfume and it is really strong, I definitely do not consider it 'fairly delicate'!
Isn't it funny how we all perceive scent so differently! Perhaps she found it fairly delicate rose too and hence the liberal spraying!!

IfNotNow12 · 16/12/2020 13:21

@CrustyChrimbo

Hypnose by lancome. To be fair I got it for Christmas from DH and promptly fell pregnant so my morning sickness played out yo that scent. I can't bear any lancome perfumes now because they all have that slightly rotten garbage note underneath. But anytime I smell Hypnose I instantly feel nauseous.
I love Hypnose but I know what you mean- I have the same thing with green tea from morning sickness,or anything that smells like green tea!
HerselfIndoors · 16/12/2020 13:23

sqirrelfriends ooh - yes it was like that with the stocking-type cover on the bottle, but it was a darker colour, dark-greyish. So maybe it was another version, or maybe it was actually a men's one.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 16/12/2020 13:25

Every Versace one smells of cat pish, vile.

It is isn't it?
I wonder if my curry and armpit friend thinks she has a delicate hint of eastern spice in hers!

HerselfIndoors · 16/12/2020 13:36

Cumin smells like farts to me.

Jennygentle · 16/12/2020 13:40

Anything with a strong amber or vanilla note. Yuk!
Chanel No 5 smells old and powdery on me, sadly.

Lovelydovey · 16/12/2020 13:54

Alien, Angel and Ghost - all super sweet and sickly in my opinion.

Kerzel · 16/12/2020 13:56

Alien - boak!

SapphosRock · 16/12/2020 13:56

I don't like any of the Hugo Boss. Especially Deep red

Aqua de Gio

CK one

Obsession

There's a Chloe one that reminds me of mosquito spray

MrsHugsxx · 16/12/2020 13:59

Angel is disgusting. When I first smelled it I didn't actually know it was someone wearing perfume, I just thought it was a horrible chemical smell. I normally love stronger scents though and Pure Poison is my favourite.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 16/12/2020 14:10

I used to love Poison back in the 80's. I'm sure they've changed the formula though.
I nearly bought Alien (on sale in Savers) this week but will m glad I didn't having read this thread

guessthatswhytheycallittheblue · 16/12/2020 14:18

Find it very interesting that the three I really dislike are those that many others also have a strong aversion to too.
Particularly Angel for me, the smell gives me a headache and is far too strong. I can smell it a mile off on other people and also makes me feel a bit sick. Hated it for absolutely years after trying it on when I was much younger in Boots!

Also Joop, bleurgh.

Pomegranate Noir, tried twice unsuccessfully to wear it after people have given as a gift and both times i have given it away as it gives me a headache and smells very weird.

ProudAuntie76 · 16/12/2020 14:47

Amouage smells of curry armpit! It’s deeply, deeply unpleasant and expensive considering it makes you smell so bad

Blueberrycreampie · 16/12/2020 15:40

Glad no one (I think) has mentioned Flowerbomb, although I know it has a lot of haters. I do love it though💕.

TheSilentStars · 16/12/2020 15:41

@DidgeDoolittle

Blimey, I had my post deleted because I said that Clinique Aromatics didn't smell of young ladies ( iykwim?). However, it seems that it is ok to say it smells of piss and old folks homes. I'll go with that then.
Quite. I've reported the disgusting comment about carehomes but it's still there. Hmm
ExpensivelyDecorated · 16/12/2020 15:44

I detest Flowerbomb, I meant to come back and add it to my list but forgot

HerselfIndoors · 16/12/2020 16:46

Clinique aromatics is my mum's favourite - she's in her 80s. I think it smells like antiseptic ointment.

Nonamesavail · 16/12/2020 16:51

Ghost

NaughtyNell · 16/12/2020 17:24

Sunflowers
Chloe Narcisse

Florial · 16/12/2020 18:22

Pomegranate Noir - unfortunately my nose translates it to extremely strong laundry detergent overlaid with clove. Headache and sneeze-inducing.
