General beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread

Like many others, I’m looking forward to starting my Beauty Advent Calendars on Tuesday. With no M&S calendar or thread this year, I thought it might be fun to have a general beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the calendar they are opening, whatever it is.

I suggest though we comment only on content from current or previous days, so as not to spoil the surprise for those opening one day at a time.

How did I miss this thread earlier

I've got the John Lewis AC and the No 7 one. Very happy with day 1 for both so far.

JL was a gorgeous hat box with acqua di palma perfume, body lotion and shower gel. Nice enough to give someone as a gift actually.
No 7 was a primer which I was going to let DD have till I read it's good for lines etc so I've taken back ownership of it.

My Hearst Red Box came within 2 days; very impressive.

Pleased with the lotion in my Lumene calendar this morning.

And a Mac Mascara in my Fenwicks calendar.

Good start to both. Grin

OchonAgusOchonO · 01/12/2020 22:35

@ohwhatamiserableyear - My Hearst Red Box came within 2 days; very impressive.

That was quick. It says 7-10 days on the website.

ohwhatamiserableyear · 01/12/2020 22:52

I know! And that was in spite of buying it in the black Friday sale for 50% off, so they were surely busy!

westr · 01/12/2020 23:35
@westr, sorry you missed out. Things did sell out stupidly quickly this year. I don’t know what your budget is, but if you can stretch to it, a couple of the 2019 Space NK advent calendars are on EBay, priced at no more than they originally cost from Space NK. It was a really good calendar, so would be a good option if the price isn’t too high for you.
Thanks for that - funnily enough I was looking at those on eBay yesterday!

Butterymuffin · 02/12/2020 00:02

Just been buying stuff on the Kiehl's website before the Black Friday offer ran out and they still seem to have their calendar in stock. Looks pretty nice actually. 89 I think.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 02/12/2020 00:34

Here's a photo of day 1 of my John Lewis calendar. It's very cute and was all inside the box.

My favourite today is from Liberty, new brand to me to try luxury product and good size.
Loved Cult beauty too, I have used similar product from another brand and interested to try alternative
Not fan of the item from Space NK or Skinstore day 1.

bigdecisionstomake · 02/12/2020 07:53

Joining in excitedly as I have the John Lewis Calendar. The Acqua Di Palma hatbox yesterday was beautiful but not sure whether I will use it as not keen on the scent. Might be one to gift. Today's was much more up my street - won't say as it's before 8am but very pleased!

For the poster upthread saying all beauty advent calendars are sold out - you can still get the Roccabox calendar for £70 which seems really good value with £365 worth of products and YouTubers saying it is one of the most underrated this year.

I know this as I've just accidentally bought one to see me through the miseries of a cold January.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 02/12/2020 07:53

So here's a photo of Day 2 of my John Lewis calendar. It's full size. I haven't come across any Vit C products my skin is happy with yet so fingers crossed. In my No 7 AC I had a black eyeliner.

@bigdecisionstomake hey fellow JL AC opener. Ooops I posted a bit early because I wasn't thinking plus I figured posters wouldn't come on here unless they'd already opened their AC before hand. Did you get the winter box that came with the JL AC. That's what swayed me to get mine and I'm so glad I did.

bigdecisionstomake · 02/12/2020 08:03

@FlyingByTheSeatof Loving my Lumene Vitamin C. I usually get on OK with Vit C products and am just about out of my current one so this is really timely for me. I missed the winter box as I think that was only available the first time the calendar was in stock. I didn't get mine until they re-stocked late October. Was it a good one?

OchonAgusOchonO · 02/12/2020 08:04

@bigdecisionstomake @FlyingByTheSeatof

We updated time limit to 7am as that's what all the other threads are doing.

Retailqueenie · 02/12/2020 08:07

ASOS day 2 is a Emma Hardy pink clay mask! Can’t wait to try it - Brilliant!

OchonAgusOchonO · 02/12/2020 08:09

Come on @MiaN - we (well I at least) need to know what they were.

AprilLady · 02/12/2020 08:13

The JL Lumene Vit C looks good.

N-a-P is, wait for it, an equally tiny conditioner to go with yesterday’s shampoo. Disappointing that they didn’t at least combine them in one drawer.

F & M looks interesting. Never tried a lip plumper and not sure it’s my thing in any event, but curious to know if it actually works.

Today I got Elemis cleansing balm (from CEW), a vit-c cleansing balm from Lumene and peppermint delight tea, which is good for (and cleansing) to the digestive system. A bit of a theme here Grin

The Elemis balm also comes with a cleansing cloth. It feels lovely.

I got a lip plumper in F&M, I'm going to try it later and my lips will give it a challenge!

@OchonAgusOchonO Phew, thanks for letting me know.

@bigdecisionstomake That's what's always so great about Beauty AC they pretty much help stock up products for the year ahead. Yes the winter box was good in that it was products I haven't tried yet. I bought it on Oct 31st. Do they usually do a winter box?

CupboardMonster · 02/12/2020 08:17

For an expensive calendar that seems rather mean of N-a-P @AprilLady.

happytobemrsg · 02/12/2020 08:18

Another happy morning here! I have a lovely foaming shower gel in my Rituals calendar (I got a free one when I bought my calendar & this is thankfully a different smell) & a gorgeous smelling bath oil from the White Company. The oil is in a lovely glass bottle & feels very luxurious. Working in central London today so I think I’ll deserve a bath when I get home! Double chocolate popcorn from my foodie calendar too

Liberty is a Venn Age-Reversing-All-In-One. Looks interesting! Be grateful for any advice on how to use it. Can't wait to look 30 again. Grin

MiaN · 02/12/2020 08:20

From most to least favorite

Liberty VENNAGE-REVERSING ALL IN ONE CONCENTRATE 20ML - love the description rich in antioxidants & peptides and free from fragrance

Cult beauty Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo (60ml) would love to try it!

Skinstore Omorovicza Gold Rescue Cream - Deluxe Size(Worth$32) - I just don't like the brand to be honest, everything I tried irritates my skin so I am going to use it on my elbows

Space NK - REN Clean Skincare Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic 100ml. I actually already gave it away, not fan of anything citrus in my skincare add acids to citrus it really does not suit me at all. But it is very popular product

happytobemrsg · 02/12/2020 08:21

You get all of that each day FlyingByTheSeatof?? That’s amazing

FlyingByTheSeatof · 02/12/2020 08:29

I know it's pretty good so far isn't it happytobemrsg I'm really pleased
