Which product has made the most difference to your skin in terms of anti-ageing?

Just that really. What’s your wonder anti-ageing product?
I’m just past mid 30s and the crows feet are starting to make an appearance!
I’ve been using vit c and retinol for many years now - as well as a peptide serum in the mornings.
How do I get my gold back? Or is that it now? Grin

Hylauronic acid is generally ok. I mean it is a moisturiser. But it doesn’t really transform your skin. What really makes a difference as said is acids to scuff it, proper strong retinol (prescription), spf 50 to prevent damage in the first place, I do trust niacinamide, Botox and fillers. That’s it

AuntieStella · 21/11/2020 08:23

Sunscreen

Duckwit · 21/11/2020 08:27

I'm pretty sure that the only things that can actually get rid of wrinkles is tretinoin and botox injections.

In terms of prevention, its SPF all the way.

Keeping skin hydrated with a hyaluronic acid (applied on damp skin and then sealed in with a bit of moisturiser) will help keep the skin plump and therefore wrinkles less obvious.

BecomeStronger · 21/11/2020 08:29

I know no one wants to hear it but drinking loads of water is the thing that has the most noticable impact for me. Properly hydrated, my skin is plumped up and lines less noticable.

Hiccupiscal · 21/11/2020 08:36

Just placemarking. The skin around my eyes is horrible. Im am ageing fast and I'm only mid 30s.
Previous smoker and drank alot, recently quit both and hoping to turn my looks around, I despair when I see photos of me 10 years ago, my skin and face were so fresh and beautiful.
Hoping its not too late :(

Nc135 · 21/11/2020 08:39

@Hiccupiscal go get some tretinoin and Botox round the eyes. And some spf 50

EvelynBeatrice · 21/11/2020 08:46

I have been using a red light machine - the LightStim - for 5 weeks now and I am starting to see plumper skin with diminished lines round my mouth and less prominent under eye hollows, presumably as its boosting collagen etc. I was disappointed initially as I didn’t see the immediate glowy face and diminished under eye shadows that I found using the now withdrawn Neutrogena light mask, but it seems to be doing something long term. I opted for the handheld lightstim because I worry about the effect of lightmasks on eyesight and the lightstim is controllable in terms of where you place it. I have been using it on backs of my hands too.
Otherwise for a quick fix, on the back of a recommendation on here, I bought Elizabeth Arden visible difference peel and reveal mask which I will rebuy -really excellent to reveal soft glowy skin when need a boost.

EvelynBeatrice · 21/11/2020 08:51

And on Botox fillers etc I’m older than you and haven’t gone that route yet..There are no circumstances that would persuade me to allow anyone other than a plastic surgeon to inject anything in to my skin - no beautician, dentist or dabbling doctor. Therefore the price puts me off - I’d rather keep my cash to help sort out my teen’s acne or for private medical care in future if NHS under pressure and can’t help with something when I’m in pain (optimist here!).

Ethelfleda · 21/11/2020 08:51

I never like The Ordinary’s retinol. I use the Medik8 one which is good.
I tried the prescription retinol but it was too harsh for me - might go back to it in a few years though.

Hyularonic acid genuinely makes me break out which is annoying.
I did find switching my cleanser has made a difference courtesy of La Roche

Retinol

Nc135 · 21/11/2020 09:13

@Ethelfleda yes prescription retinol is harsh at first. It took me 3 months for my skin to settle. But it settles. For me it proved it was actually doing something. And it does. My skin is a lot better since using it.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 21/11/2020 09:20

Recently I switched to a thick vitamin c paste rather than vit c serum and that has made a noticeable difference in my skin.

Also - about 10 years ago I had pulse light treatment and microdermabrasion to treat pigmentation. Unfortunately my pigmentation returned during pregnancy, but I am now 37 and don't have any lines at all around my eyes or anywhere. Could be luck, could be the daily sunscreen since I was a teenager but I suspect those treatments helped.

Also I used to use vitamin a cream every second day (but I can't do that currently as an breastfeeding) but seriously switching to the vitamin c paste has been a revelation!

Separatedandabitsad · 21/11/2020 09:20

I read threads like these & I realise I haven’t taken even near good enough care of myself. I started getting crows’ feet and smile lines in my 20s (which one friend kindly pointed out!). My lifestyle was grossly unhealthy from my mid teens onwards (lots of alcohol, lots of takeaways etc). I’m 40 now and have started to realise my skin has aged a lot but I’m grappling with adult acne; so I’m tackling them both soon with a prescription that’s on the way.

In terms of what I’ve used, I second the oil cleansing balm. I can never believe how amazing I look after it. People say to double cleanse but I can’t bear a second cleanse as my skin literally glows after an oil cleanse in the evening.

I also think any eye cream every night is a nice addition and rosehip oil made a lovely difference to my skin. I sometimes put rosehip oil in my moisturiser. There are lots of other nice skin oils.

However, unfortunately this is true:

I've observed of others with youthful appearances that they generally speaking just lead healthier lifestyles

A friend of mine is a control freak - never eats takeaways, only drinks on nights out (& is annoyingly moderate!), walks 3 hours a day, eats salads for dinner. Her motivation seems to be weight control - I couldn’t in a million years live as she does (she’s pretty uptight) but her skin is immaculate. The other thing is she never sunbathed and is careful with hats and SPF in the sun. I don’t think it’s too late. I’m starting to take care of my skin better and while I already have lots of wrinkles at 40, I think I can help myself to look as good as possible for the next stretch of my life (once all the spots from adult acne clear!) & so can you OP. Halloween Smile

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 21/11/2020 09:24

Oh I forgot. I've also recently started using an oil cleanser and oil instead of moisturiser. My dry skin drinks it up and is looking so much healthier.

Oh, what is the vit c paste? Sounds interesting!
Separatedandabitsad · 21/11/2020 09:32

Oh and by the way, another depend of mine has line-less skin in her mid 40s. She gets asked if she’s had Botox. She drinks alcohol like a fish, eats takeaways and still has crazy late nights partying ...... But her skin is very pale & burns easily so she is anal about SPF and staying out of the sun! There really seems to be no substitute for SPF!

Nat6999 · 21/11/2020 09:38

Retinol & L'Oréal anti ageing products for my age range, the creases in my laughter lines & crows feet have disappeared within 2 months. I also use glycolic acid peels, Boots skin resurfacing paste, L'Oréal anti ageing facial wipes & twice a week a sonic cleansing brush with foaming facial cleanser instead of exfoliating washes with microbes. Build up your Retinol use, start with twice a week up to every night, I sometimes even use it during the day if I'm not using cosmetics. Also buy the day & night creams & use them religiously every day.

Missanneshirley · 21/11/2020 09:44

Can anyone recommend a good vitamin c product?

And also, does anyone take anything in terms of supplements that they feel helps with this?

doadeer · 21/11/2020 09:49

Oskia vit c capsules
Medik8 vit c
La Roche Posay vt c

Cheaper options - I actually like the revolution one

I like all of those personally

@Ylvamoon which essential oils
do you use? I love using them too but haven't ever applied them to my face. I'd like to give it a go.

Ylvamoon · 21/11/2020 12:11

@LittleEsme You need to buy the high grade ones for Aroma Therapy or massage - not thr cheapest, they last forever! ... I like lemongrass and lavender oils. All I do is add a few drops to 50ml of bog standard (extra virgin Halloween Blush) olive oil. It's more to make it smell nice.

QueenPaws · 21/11/2020 12:15

Skin and me (prescription tret)
Avoiding the sun
Verso retinol eye serum
Good genes!

QueenPaws · 21/11/2020 12:18

To add, this is my skin mid thirties. I do have the smile lines but my mums and dads are both quite bad/strong so I was never expecting them to be different! I'm pretty happy with around my eyes though
