@Dotty, wat is the point in being on this thread if you hate their clothes so much?
Finally moved on...

That is the point. I loved their clothes. I feel now it is all about profit and the quality of the clothes has plummeted.

Well to be fair, the quality of their clothes is still very good.
I have the chevron dress from a year ago or so and it is beautifully made.

I am sure a lot of you actually agree with me - reluctantly - as similarly for me Toast has been a major factor in my life. These days I could sone my money elsewhere with careful selection and get more for may money. They need better management

😁😁😁😁 @dotty your post made me laugh. I have to say that I agree with you, but feel that the knitwear is also a thumbs down of late due to the excessive bobbling which is a crying shame.

I’ve been silently following this continued thread for ages as I’ve been shopping with Toast for over 10 years, but am slowly starting to lose interest in the brand - the customer service is also rubbish now (I received the cardi a few months back as a gift, which looked an absolute state after a few wears - the team were as unhelpful and disinterested as could be). Since then I’ve made one last non sale purchase - the cotton linen fixed wrap dress, but have decided that this will probable be my last until pairs of my pull on or Alix pants need replacing (which I do love).

I would say that 70% of my wardrobe at one point was Toast, but I did slowly start to realise that only a select number of items make me look / feel amazing and not incredibly frumpy (as beautiful as they are)😱 - I also have a number of the circle tokens burning a hole in my purse 😭

I’ve been following this thread with growing interest at both the Toast love and the amount of shopping you all seem to do 🌈😁 I’ve been vicariously enjoying the lockdown purchases, call to sale updates, and the inevitable returns through you all. I am currently on a solid rotation of cozy house clothes working from home, nothing much tickling my fancy in the sales as I have no where to go😭

I have to be honest and say (whisper) that I did ask the team if they were sprinkling their love on this board 👀 😁

I do think it's lovely to have a mix of opinions on here.

I have also bought toast clothes for as long as you. I remember buying a few jersey things then that were really poor quality.
I think for the most part, their quality is very good.
I was a bit dismayed at the coats one year without linings or semi linings. Thought that was a disgrace, granted.
It is actually all about the money from most companies.
Including designer ganni. I had a dress and wouldnt say it was any better than the quality from the likes of Marks!

Oh yes to the excessive bobbling but not on everything.
What annoys me also is the cashmere is mixed with wool but still as pricey.

So I am happy to provide examples. In the sale last summer I bought two side pleated t shirts - both were washed at 30 degrees and both were unwearable after. Just not acceptable.

Also agree that customer services haven't been great.
They used to be amazing!
The first time i noticed was when i ordered a cardigan and it had a hole in it.
It was the first time they ever said to me take photos of it[standard now i know] but before they practically had a replacement out to me before i had parcelled the damaged item up.

@lemonadeandpop please can I ask a random question - what are the ‘circle tokens’ you mentioned?

Report
Fortherosesjoni70 · 12/01/2021 21:46

Did they shrink?

Report
Fortherosesjoni70 · 12/01/2021 21:47

Their use of viscose in dresses annoys me because its so proned to shrinkage. I tend to avoid it for that reason. As a material though i love the fluidity.

@Dottty rather an assumption that we are all over 50.... and since when has age got anything to do with our choice of clothing?
I am in sure why you’ve come to a wonderfully supportive thread, clearly created for those of us who do like Toast clothing to be negative about it? Are you trying to make us feel lesser for our liking of Toast? Are you trying to feel better about yourself?
I value this thread because it feels like a safe haven amidst the chaos. We don’t all agree on everything, but we do so respectfully.

This is from the swap initiative, only a few stores do it. You take in your used ( but good condition) clothes - any season, and swap your for another in the circle.
There is a dedicated rack it two with circle items - two tiers. I think one tier is for clothing over 180£ or so and one below. If there is nothing that you love you receive a token and whenever / if ever there is anything you love, your token works as the 'swap' item.
Over time I decided to have an offload and took a number of items in store (a few I wish I'd kept), and never quite loved the items I took home as much. I also made the mistake (on my final round) of taking in a few dresses that were worn once and an asymmetrical cord skirt that was unworn 🙈 and not finding anything at the time or long after, so gave up 😁🙈 I still have those tokens!!

@lemonadeandpop that sounded like such a lovely idea but I was left a bit sad about your experience. It’s not often I’ve done it but how I hate the regret of letting go of a garment that you then realise you liked more than you thought is so annoying!
Such a shame you’ve still got two tokens Sad

Oh and dare I ask about the seams on Alix. Worn once and seams fallen apart. Trousers coming over £100...I also experienced this fate along with a lot of us .

Well you are Toast out. So why are you still on here?
Complain to Toast.
They are on twitter, Facebook etc. Maybe they can reimburse you.

Absolutely I was in my early 30s when 80% of my wardrobe was Toast. Ah those heady days.

You're confusing me Dottty! I remember you from previous Toast threads on here and 6 months ago you were a true devotee - what happened to change love to hate in the space of a few months?

Report
lemonadeandpop · 12/01/2021 23:30

Honestly, I do have to be honest and say it's a lovely idea.

Just keep your pristine items at home - and take in the good / decent condition ones, and swap tier for tier. I made the mistake of taking in (the 1st round) a hammered silk dress with four other items - swapping all for a lower tier and def nothing near the value . On the final offload I did spot a lovely pristine wool blazer, but unfortunately none of my items were in the higher tier. This did make me think about the dress, I think I swapped it for a random top!

I really do think that the negative take is meant with no harm or malice.
Im guessing that there are others who have kept up with these threads (but not posted), with some affinity to Toast. Perhaps lost the love for the brand a little, perhaps never really had it to begin with. I think it's always lovely to hear the other side of the coin and offers a bit of balance.

Anyway I don't want to change the tone of the thread, so will return to my comfortable non posting status - but I for one def appreciated hearing an honest divergent opinion, especially as I can relate

Yes I remember you also @Dottty
You got lots of stuff in the JL sale.
Personally I dont find the clothes short and square.
The exact opposite.
Im tall and lanky, size 12 and find it suits me. So nice to find long things for a change.
I also dont take looking like a granny as an insult .Theres the old ladies are cool thread in S&B and I care not one jot if people think Im old.
We often discuss things in a balanced way regarding Toast on here and sizing is always tricky which we all find annoying.
Hope you are ok , might be an idea to lay off the Wine possibly?
