Which brands do you like @Dotty? Always after new ideas... I have bought a lot of Ganni over the years, also Mads Norgaard. But you have to sift through a lot of synythetic stuff and not particularly well made...

Laska2Meryls · 12/01/2021 20:03

Dottty What designers do you love? Id love to have a look.. Smile
I find that quite a lot of Toast is still 'me', but my body shape suits the more simple line 'Scandi' type styles .. Sadly not many Toast dresses look good on me .

Ive noticed this time that a lot of the the sale Toast doesnt seem to be being snapped up so fast on JL, in the summer it was definitely blink and they were gone. Same on Toast , but tbh, some things this season I thought were a bit of a mistake.. Did anyone buy those geo T shirts?

@Dottty unlike you i am new-ish to the Toast brand, and so it's easier for me to just dismiss the stuff they do that I don't like without the emotions having to be involved but I can feel your pain as it's happened to me with other brands. What EU designers are you thinking of, do you mean AOS, Cos etc??

Dottty · 12/01/2021 20:11

So I guess I have a passion for Lilith, Rundholz, scandi brands, etc where the cut is sophisticated and not just unflattering but for a similar (and incomparable style). Even the bold designs are clever. Toast design is just bad but the quality of their knitwear is so good

Dottty · 12/01/2021 20:15

Toast is square and bulky which suits the small minority. For curvy ladies 14-18 ( I personally find these design just hideous) . So many other designers design for real women without us feeling like sacks.

Dottty · 12/01/2021 20:18

I am a contemporary professional feminine woman with a love of fashion but am not prepared to look like a woman who is wanting to loose style and femininity . Toast I am out.

Dottty · 12/01/2021 20:20

Granny style is not for us

Laska2Meryls · 12/01/2021 20:24

Ok.........Hmm.. .. Well, we cant all have the same taste..

Glad you got that off your chest Grin

@Dottty, welcome! It’s great to have newbies aboard and it’s even better to have a good debate about the comparative merits of various clothing and fashion labels. I’m always intrigued to check out brand names I’ve not heard of before, so thanks for the name checks.

Is this the type of thing you were thinking of?

Incidentally, this is a thread where, despite the (fucking terrifying) state of the world currently, we’re as kind and supportive as we can possibly be to each other, recognising that behind the talk about the fripperies of fashion, we are all, in some way, very affected by the pandemic. I hope you won’t mind me pointing out that it is actually derogatory to refer to someone else’s choice of clothing or fashion as ‘granny style’, like being a granny is akin to being a lesser human being. It’s grannies who are keeping the economy afloat currently, especially as schools are closed so parents are relying on their parents to provide childcare and home schooling while they fulfil their job obligations to keep a roof over their families’ heads.

And, frankly, I’d rather dress like my granny (god rest her long departed soul) than wear that MC Hammer-inspired jumpsuit (monstrosity) at £368!

Play nice now.

@Moominmammaatsea gosh ruffed feathers- apologies if if I touched a delicate spot. As you know I have been on board for many seasons. I have bought Toast since 1995.
Just a realisation I guess. Incidentally I am a front line NHS worker on covid wards which is now horrific. I just appreciate value for money and sadly the last 2-3 years toast does not deliver. I do not value shapeless frumpy clothes which women can hide behind where there a exciting clothes out there tailored toward us at a lower cost than these which far better design. Wear a bag to hide if you want. I have realised there is more to life. #frumpynomorebutwillwearthejersy

NoCureForLove · 12/01/2021 21:05

I would scare people in the street in that jumpsuit Dotty and would look a complete fright - although I do like the zip. Each to their own and all that.
Respect to you doing the work you are doing. My dh is a consultant in a big London hospital. It's a nightmare.

Countmeout · 12/01/2021 21:05

@FiddleFigs

Has anyone tried/bought the Ono leaf print Agnes dress? I've been umming over it for a while - it's down to £60 now, so quite tempted ...
I think it’s the same style as the palm leaf dress from last year. I have it. It’s lovely material. The only negative I can think of is that the sleeves sort of stick out and doesn’t work with a thin cardigan.
Moominmammaatsea · 12/01/2021 21:10

Ah let’s agree to disagree @Dottty, you’ve clearly got a lot on your plate as I have on mine. What is it that has upset you so much? Would it be worth you writing to Toast with your suggestions? Honestly, I don’t really give a rat’s what’s-it, because we’re only talking about clothes, not life and death, and we clearly have both experienced much of that in recent weeks/months. By the way, that jumpsuit still makes me think of MC Hammer...£368!!!!! 😉😅 Funnily enough, and perhaps perversely or conversely, I think the thing Toast does less well is knitwear. The wool cashmere knits are so spendy when you can get a lush cashmere jumper from JL for two-thirds of the price of a Toast blend.

NoCureForLove · 12/01/2021 21:11

I like that dress - but can't get my head round the blue leaves - it should be a green dress in my head!

Moominmammaatsea · 12/01/2021 21:12

@Dottty, yes, respect for the wonderful job you are doing (and to NoCure’s husband, too). Thanks!

I have no idea what jumpsuit you are talking about. Can you send a link as a jumpsuit has not been in my purchase desire line since I made a fabulous one in 1979.

Oh the geo t-shirts reminded me of tops from bhs. Maybe better in real life?
Dottty · 12/01/2021 21:20

Blimey so many tetchy people. We are talking clothes people. Anybody would think we had issues...

Countmeout · 12/01/2021 21:27

Sorry i obvs posted in the middle of something 😳. I was eating toast with real butter.

Dottty · 12/01/2021 21:27

As 50+ women we should be embracing who we are. Why on earth would we choose such hideous clothing. Agreed they can look great on willowy size 8 angular women but I will never be that. Bring on the independent arty women who will not accept this droll suggestion.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 12/01/2021 21:28

I have felt that way about Toast too but more in the past. I wish they would honestly move away from the persistent calf length. They actually did do a lot of nice items with a modern vibe. I remember a gorgeous denim mini and a few others. Loved their cord and denim tunics [ like yours @laska. Bitterly dissapointed that year in year out its the calf length vibe with socks and brogue. Also gathers on waists are not good for me. I went off them for a long time but i do love some items now. Jumpers, shirts, jersey and love some of their dresses especially pinafores.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 12/01/2021 21:29

@Dotty, wat is the point in being on this thread if you hate their clothes so much?

Countmeout · 12/01/2021 21:30
