Ooh it looks really nice. Thanks for the picture. Is it true to size do you think? Wonder if I should size up as I do tend to shrink things (like my ume dressHmm)

Saurus72 · 07/01/2021 22:18

I’m usually a Toast dress size 12 but this is a 14. I went to and fro with both sizes last winter when I ordered it. Both fitted but I thought the 14 was a better fit on the shoulders. V excited to get the green one 🥳

AmethystMoonShine · 08/01/2021 07:22

I’ve just looked at the made to order section on the Toast website. It seems it’s reasoning is that made to order reduces waste.... so I wonder how returns work? I also wonder, as they say they’ll be expanding this range, if this mess as is a move towards there being no sale? They seem particularly slow to both put lines into the sale and to make reductions this year. I suspect they’ve ordered less stock and so have less stock to ‘shift’? It’ll be the end of my Toast shopping if they do. The made to order range looks to be far out of my price range, as do the prices of much of the new stock. Their quality is good but not THAT good. Their knitwear still bobbles, their black denim fades quickly, their sizing is erratic.... that’ll be interesting on made to order!
Anyway sorry for missing a bit, probably feeling a bit sad Toast may become a thing of the past for me?

AmethystMoonShine · 08/01/2021 07:24

Arghh I should check posts first! No idea where the ‘mess’ came from and I meant moaning, not missing!! Blush

I think realistically many of us have realised that we dont need so much stuff? Im going through each room -not much else to do Grin and that included my wardrobe ! Its so much better and more importantly Im able to see what Ive got . Maybe shopping "for fun" will be a thing of the past and we will all get used to buying less but better quality?

I just dont get the price for made to order?
I have a number of made to order items including several beautiful linen dresses which come in at £89 and were lengthened to my specification.
They have my details/ measurements so its easy to reorder, everything is beautifully wrapped and it feels like a lovely personal service.
Im struggling to see how they can justify £345 for a wrap dress matching cushions optional

Saurus72 · 08/01/2021 08:26

If it’s made to order (mainly or only) then would they need shops? Maybe that’s what they’re thinking about? My feeling is this will be a niche part of their business, but who knows. I think they always drip feed the sale - I pretty much never buy things at first reduction because it’s not usually that good. Stock is definitely weird I assume due COVID - things have been added to the website often looking like they’re in the wrong season. Who knows? But no Toast sale means far far fewer purchases for me. @Templetree I’ve been rationalising too, a lot of eBay sales and fewer items of clothing bought for sure. New clothes are so cheering though! I love planning what I want to buy, seeking things out etc. But yes, I’m definitely shopping less partly because I was doing that anyway but also...nowhere to go, nothing to do...

Templetree · 08/01/2021 08:48

Regarding the sale
Why dont they just reduce until things go?
Ive never come across another company who keep bringing out seasons old stuff and call it archive Wink
Btw apologies but I dont even remember the email login I used to sign up so I dont pick it up if people @ me 😬

Countmeout · 08/01/2021 09:06

I sort of like the archive for sometimes something pops up that you never knew you wanted but then have a burning desire for.
But the stuff is all over the place season wise.

Floisme · 08/01/2021 09:24

I think I'd got the wrong end of the stick about the made to order range. I'd assumed it meant made to measure, with the clothes made to your specifications. I thought that was quite an interesting move and certainly a bold one, albeit out of my price range. But it looks like they're still using standard sizes so all they mean is that the item won't be made till you place an order? Have I got that right as I don't really see the point?

Saurus72 · 08/01/2021 09:33

@Floisme that does seem to be the case so unless they are specifying no returns, will not necessarily mean there is reduced waste 🤷‍♀️

@Countmeout ha, yes I know exactly what you mean about realising something from the archive sale must be yours - just bought this dress www.toa.st/uk/product/all+sale/c1nca/chalkboard+cotton+shirt+dress.htm

I think I’m right in saying @Moominmammaatsea has it and advised that it looks more grey than brown so I’m hoping I’ve got the sizing right as it looks like a good wfh dress.

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 09:38

Did anyone order the Oat cotton linen grandad shirt in M and is planning on returning it? I just miss out on one this morning ( pipped at the post on payment). If anyone is thinking of sending one back id love to buy it off you instead Smile .obvs would pay postage Thanks !

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 09:40

This one, garment dyed grandad shirt not the grandad tee

Floisme · 08/01/2021 09:48

Thanks Saurus. I think they'll have to allow returns surely? £300+ for a dress you possibly haven't even seen for real and no chance of a return... I think if you could afford that then you'd be probably wouldn't be shopping on the high street in the first place.
Agree with a pp that they could well be testing the water, I hope it doesn't lead to any kind of downgrading of the main collection.

Saurus72 · 08/01/2021 10:25

Yes, who on earth would gamble that much money on a dress that may/may not look good? I think one of the best things Toast could do to help reduce returns is sort out their sizing which is all over the place. I have Toast dresses in 4 different sizes that all fit perfectly - that is just not the way forward for online shopping when consistency is everything.

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 10:30

Yes it is! I have Toast stuff in XS and XL !! All fit!

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 10:31

And all sizes in between 🤔

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2021 10:34

The Ide pJs i stuck with L and trousers a bit big but really I could have done with the XL top ....if I had actually wanted to sleep in them.. I d say that I was a12/ 14 on top and 10 /12 on bottom in most brands ..

Quote of the day to @Templetree for "Im struggling to see how they can justify £345 for a wrap dress matching cushions optional" Smile.

Toast need us as a focus group to help them find their way and make sure they don't lose some really long and passionate customers. It feels like a few of us are rethinking our relationship with Toast if they aren't listening to their loyal customer base and feeling the current lockdown/economic decline and making adjustments accordingly to range and pricing.

NoCureForLove · 08/01/2021 12:42

Have had a look at the made to order and the returns policy. Says you can't exchange or refund them. Who is going to do that? Madness! Or you have to go to a shop where they have one of each size to try? More madness! Meh.

Floisme · 08/01/2021 12:44

Well they have lost their minds if they seriously think that's going to work for them.

Countmeout · 08/01/2021 12:47

No that is not going to work even if I had ££££ to spend on dress matching jacket and cushion, do you think you are meant to carry the cushion with you to use on train etc so you are always coordinating?

I am miles and miles from a Toast shop, anyhow you know the way
you need to try something on with various shoes etc to ensure you will get maximum use out of it. Will watch with interest how this goes.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/01/2021 12:51

Has anyone bought the £95 Silk pyjama style top (to wear with trousers/jeans)

I'm really tempted but a bit worried that it will
Look like I'm wearing an actual pyjama top Grin

Saurus72 · 08/01/2021 12:56

All of the made to order dress and cushion is making me v happy 😊. No returns/exchanges - I predict this new initiative will quietly go away...

AmethystMoonShine · 08/01/2021 13:27

Goodness @NoCureForLove when I wrote my grumpy post this morning, I didn’t really seriously think they wouldn’t do returns on the made to order items! Shock
I guess it will achieve their no waste objective though....I doubt many will be made beyond the samples doing the rounds with the press. Imagine if you ordered one and didn’t read the returns policy!
I still had assumed for the price it would be made to MEASURE!!
