Please help me not hate my wedding dress

Getting married in the Dominican Republic in a few months (Covid allowing..) I bought a dress and fell in love with it in the shop but honestly I want to cry when I see photos of it now as it just doesn't look right. I know what I want it to look like, if anyone here knows anything about alterations please give me some advice.

Firstly I'm closing up the plunging V-neck. The boning will be bought together at the front.

The issue I have, is the cups. You couldn't see them in the mirror when I tried it on but I hate how they look in the photos. I need to figure out the best way of getting rid of them, options being to replace them with nude cups, or to just line the whole bodice with skin colour material. At the moment I'm just so unhappy with how to front looks.

Firstly congratulations on your wedding! I think in all honesty you'd be best getting the whole bodice lined if possible as I geek now you have the discomfort thoughts about the cups you'd be so focused on that?

It's beautiful - but yes you'll need to get rid of those cups and line the whole bodice or they could look weird in flash photos.
The intricate detail on the bodice will make people look closely so you want to make sure it stands up to scrutiny!

Yes I think if you replace the cups for nude ones and the whole bodice part with nude fabric underneath it will make it perfect and you will feel happier.

It’s beautiful! Perhaps the bodice as a whole is too sheer, I agree with @TitianaTitsling (great name, by the way!) and would consider lining it all.

That’d look great on a beach. It’s sheer enough for the beach and hot weather. You have a fantastic figure.
If you’re not feeling it and you’re not happy, look for something else.

I would line the whole bodice in a nude fabric then there is nothing to "focus" on except how beautiful you look

The back is really beautiful. The front can be made to be beautiful too, I agree the cups looks wrong. Can they be taken out and then the whole of the bodice lined in white?

It’s beautiful! The straps at the back and train are stunning. I love the v plunge and I think the worries with the cup can be solved with nude lining. You look lovely in it and it suits your figure.

Rather than just paying the deposit I paid in full. If I change my mind now I lose all my money as one is being custom made to my exact size. It was just over £700 so I can't really afford to change my mind. I need to find a way to make it work for me. I love the back, and the pattern on the skirt felt quite beachy/Caribbean which is why I chose it. It's just the cups that are making me hate it. I like that it's sheer, it'll be nice and cool because of how hot it'll be but I just really can't leave it as is with the cups. I'm worried lining it even with a nude fabric will ruin the sheer look but also worried nude cups would still show, as I hate them so much it's all I'll see. I'm so gutted that what seemed perfect in the shop seems a bit meh now

Wow the back is so beautiful and the dress really suits your figure. It looks fab. I think the previous suggestions of lining the whole bodice at the front would overcome why you don’t like the dress and still maintain its intricate charm. I think it’s a great choice for a beach wedding.

Perhaps I'll get them to line it first and see how I feel and decide after that about it. I hope it's salvageable

I think lining the entire front with nude just round to under your armpits would look best on camera as it will let the detail shine - really there's so much beautiful detail on it its not really 'sheer' enough to see your skin, so it might as well be just a light nude (actually closer to a light satin pearly pink would look lovely too)

The front looks awkward in the photo, it was a size 14 being held on to to a size 6 so when I said to her it looked like it wasn't sitting right on the boobs she said it'll look very different when it's the right size. I think that's not helping me not liking the front. With it sitting badly, having the weird white cups and the neckline I'm unsure of it just seems like it's really not right and makes me think I've chosen the wrong dress.

Definitely get the bodice fully lined (at least at the front, there's very little at the back so won't make much difference) and nude cups. If you're worried about the weather, a lining might actually make it more comfortable to wear rather than less, if you can get the right fabric. It will look much better in photos too. It's very pretty already, though, I'm sure it will look gorgeous in the sun and sand.

I’ve since similar beautifully detailed dresses on programmes like ‘say yes to the dress’ and they have often been lined when the bride loves the detail but doesn’t want to show as much skin. They always end up beautiful and you can still really appreciate the beauty of the detail on the dress.

It’s also true that dresses look different when you try them on in different sizes. I’m a size 8 and most of the dress I tried on were a 14. I tried my actual dress in a 14 and although I loved it anyway, it looked so much better when I had it on in my size.

All I would say is make sure you love it in the end 🥰

On a smaller size the plunge should be in proportion. And not as pronounced.

How far down the production process is the dress? Have you contacted the shop and explained your reservations? Would they be able to organise the nude lining?

If you’re stuck with the dress and you really don’t like it then I suggest you sell it and cut your losses.

I was expecting something so much worse when I clicked on the link. The dress is gorgeous, it's just not fitted to your shape. Are you able to go back and have a look again and talk to them about your reservations?

I highly doubt in their industry this will be the first time someone's done this!

Oh my goodness it’s stunning. It looks so perfect for a beach wedding. To be honest, I wouldn’t have noticed anything about the front, as I just wouldn’t have looked in that much detail. But I really hope you find a solution to make you love the dress again because it’s so beautiful. Congratulations.

I'm sure they'll be able to do something with the cups so you're happy with it. I like the boning at the front & the back is gorgeous.
