Please help me not hate my wedding dress

Getting married in the Dominican Republic in a few months (Covid allowing..) I bought a dress and fell in love with it in the shop but honestly I want to cry when I see photos of it now as it just doesn't look right. I know what I want it to look like, if anyone here knows anything about alterations please give me some advice.

Firstly I'm closing up the plunging V-neck. The boning will be bought together at the front.

The issue I have, is the cups. You couldn't see them in the mirror when I tried it on but I hate how they look in the photos. I need to figure out the best way of getting rid of them, options being to replace them with nude cups, or to just line the whole bodice with skin colour material. At the moment I'm just so unhappy with how to front looks.

Thanks

The back is insanely beautiful! As you have a modest chest, could you get away with removing the cups? It might look more natural

villainousbroodmare · 30/10/2020 23:53

It is an absolutely beautiful dress, but exactly as PPs have said, the whole front needs to be lined with a fabric close in colour to your own skin tone. It will be perfect then. The white cups are dreadful.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 30/10/2020 23:57

I think you look beautiful Smile

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 31/10/2020 00:00

Congratulations on your wedding! That is a beautiful dress. I bet your mum is kicking herself - surely she meant to say ‘wow good choice, what an amazing dress, you look great’, rather than wibbling on about the neckline.

fib11235 · 31/10/2020 00:14

Where do you live? Anywhere near South Bucks - I got married 6 weeks ago in a fabulous but very sheer dress and at the fitting the fitter noted you could see the cups. She switched them for some others, it cost an extra £25 but did the trick. She said it was a special brand not available on the high street that she had found to be very good but if you can get a decent fitter then I think they can sort any issues for you.
It’s an absolutely lovely dress and you look stunning. Other than the cups I wouldn’t change a thing including the neck line :-)

Fairybatman · 31/10/2020 00:21

Definitely get the lining and a fist fitting done before you change the front. The plunge is t that low, the cups on the dress in the photo are too big so they are sitting higher, I think it’ll look beautiful when fitted.

Fairybatman · 31/10/2020 00:22

First fitting not fist fitting!

sorryforswearing · 31/10/2020 00:53

It’s a lovely dress and absolutely perfect for a beach wedding. I agree that you need to sort out the cups but I can see why you chose it.

Lorw · 31/10/2020 01:17

I agree. Get rid of those cups and get it lined! Also it’s perfectly normal to feel a bit ugh about a dress you loved in the shop, remember until it’s fitted to your body it will look different anyways 😁

IdblowJonSnow · 31/10/2020 01:22

I also really like it and didnt notice any issue with the cups.

SionnachRua · 31/10/2020 01:26

It's lovely, the back is especially beautiful. I agree with changing out the cups/lining but it's a cracker of a dress. Will look great on the beach!

Weddingdressregret · 31/10/2020 07:52

I did hope the cups only looked as bad as I thought because the dress was way too big for me but these photos are of the model wearing it and I still don't like how they look.

Looks like getting it lined is the best solution, feeling a bit more hopeful now. I will post pics when it's sorted, the dress isn't even ready until March so I've got a bit more nervous waiting to do yet.

Thank you for the confidence boost I am doubting myself less now!

I felt the same about my wedding dress and years later still wish I'd changed it. But seriously that dress is beautiful! I wouldn't change a thing.

ForTheLoveOfHalloween · 31/10/2020 08:03

I think once it's in your size it'll sit better. I'd change the cups to nude. I wouldn't line in, it's a very beautiful dress.

Ohalrightthen · 31/10/2020 08:07

Agree with the cups - go for the lining.

Also, you look incredible. Even without seeing your face, and in the wrong size, the dress looks better on you than it does on the model.

terriblyangryattimes · 31/10/2020 08:12

If they're making it to fit bespoke are they able to add the lining in and change the cups as part of the process? Its a very beautiful dress!

triceratops12 · 31/10/2020 08:19

I honestly think it is beautiful! Coming from someone who would be very honest if it wasn't!

whensmynexthol1day · 31/10/2020 08:20

Very beautiful dress! And I wouldn't worry about the plunging neckline- I don't think this dress has one? There's some very revealing dresses out there- this isn't one of them!

picklemewalnuts · 31/10/2020 08:30

I'm so glad you said what you did about the size- the picture of it on you, the front is too big for you, it's out of proportion. Yours will be fit much better.

golddustwomen · 31/10/2020 08:53

@triceratops12 exactly this!

It's bloody beautiful.

inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 08:56

I'd line it in a white to match the bodice, rather than nude. It will take away any focus on the cups.

inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 08:58

Plus, you look better in it than the model photos!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 31/10/2020 09:04

Agree the dress is beautiful and really suits you - and it looks better on you than the model. Definitely change the cups for sheet ones but I really like the low V - it works with the floaty fabric. Talk to the alterations team - they know what they are doing. Congratulations and you will look stunning.

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 31/10/2020 09:10

Wow, I love it!! So beautiful. Don't make any decisions until you have got your actual dress, but lining will be a good option.

Weddingdressregret · 31/10/2020 09:11

Just realised I won't be able to come back to update as I posted in 30 days only. How do I move it?
