Which perfume were you recently complimented on?

I'm doing a bit of early Christmas shopping.

I’d never buy any perfumes for other people- it’s so personal and your own smell and personality affects your choices so much...

That said, there are light eau de colognes from classic perfume Houses that are delicate enough (and cheap enough) that I know they can be easily used as linen sprays or even room sprays.

Two come to mind: the range of Aqua Allegoria scents (in gorgeous Art Deco bottles) and the range of 4711 Acqua Colonia. Almost all winners, and you can check out the feedback/scent profiles on Fragrantica.com to be sure.

They’re practically unisex, delicate and (almost) universally yummy. You can layer them too.

Girlzroolz - the only time I buy perfume for e.g. my DM is if I know she likes it - so David Cool Water and Boss Orange and Narcisco Rodriguez. I tried her with Nuxe which I thought similar to the NR and she wasn't keen!

Funnily enough DM loves 4711, her grandma used it.

But yes for me a big no no to buy for someone else unless you know exactly what they like.

Dolce and Gabbana light blue as recommended by Jeremy Fragrance on YouTube 😂 and he's right I got compliments when wearing this this, it's a gorgeous summer fragrance, just need to find a winter one.

It was an Avon one! Eve - Truth. Very fresh smell, the bottle is lovely too.

This is one of my all time favs! It's a shame it's so recognisable, which shouldn't really matter!

If you love light blue for summer you will love NR for her edt (black bottle, pink box) - scrumptiously musky like Light Blue but deeper and richer for colder weather.

I have so many beautiful perfumes and the one i get complimented on all the time is bloody Body Shop White Musk fgs.

Lidl's Coco Mademoiselle dupe, Suddenly Woman . Awful bottle but smells fantastic, a real signature scent and only £4.

It's subtle! Unless you know people that have dosed themselves in it

Euphoria by Calvin Klein. Every time I wear it.

Laura mercier ambre and vanille body soufflé. It smells really strongly like I’m wearing perfume but softer and warmer. I get comments every time, often from blokes “oh you smell really nice” inc random ones in queues etc. And not in a making a pass way either, and from many women, asking what it is. They are always surprised when I say it’s a body lotion.

I’m really intrigued by this Molecule perfume. I used to work in House if Fraser in the 90s and knew everything perfume going back then. Since then I’ve stuck to a few faves and don’t feel very up to date. If the smell of a perfume is very overpowering it makes me feel really sick, even if I actually quite like the smell itself. It’s the same if someone near me has strong perfume on.

Would any of the posters on here who tried Molecule 01 but didn’t get on with it be interested in selling me their bottle to try? PM me if so, thanks.

YSL - Mon Paris

YSL mon paris is gorgeous! Everybody likes it I wear it at work and even a male knew exactly what I had on. A couple of people have asked me what perfume I had on.

I've never been complimented on my perfume by strangers until I started wearing Choco Musk by Al Rehab. It smells like spiced milk chocolate and vanilla and almost every time I wear it someone comments. However, it's only about £2 for 6ml of perfume oil (eBay and Amazon) so hardly an indulgent Christmas treat! Montale do something similar called Chocolate Greedy if you want a fancier version. Their Absolue Vanille is also delicious.

The only perfume anyone ever recognised on me was EL White Linen, and it was a boss at work. I also had a compliment on Dune, from a random on the train, so I decided it was too strong a fragrance for work.

Halfeti by penhaligon...always get asked what it is ..it is beautiful ..it lasts all day ..use to always use Jo Malone but doesn't last long at all

Yes! I’ve been asked many times when I wear Halfeti, and on me it lasts about 6 hours.

Diptyque Philosykos; another one which women ask about.
Miller Harris; Un Petit Rien and Noix de Tubéreuse received compliments on evenings out this summer.

Also what smells great on one person doesn't always on another due to skin. My sister wears Coco madomoiselle but it's rank on me. Plus she or medicines change skin so what suited when young may not now. I get complimented on Coco Chanel, Givenchy L' inderdit and Libre by ysl the new intense is lovely too.
I go to my local Debenhams, thankfully not closing. They will spray it on a card to try ( I rub it on my wrist then) or ask if they have any free samples to take away
