Annasgirl thank you will take a look, yy American petite range is really good I had field day when I visited America do agree though the fashion is definitely a bit meh.

icklekid · 18/10/2020 04:03

I agree with @dontcallmelen Oliver Bonas do lovely tops (on the larger size if anything) but it always makes me sad that I can never wear their dresses or trousers or skirts because they swamp me and look ridiculous- can’t even see a way to alter or take up most of the time so stopped looking.

Ted Baker have a 50% sale on and I like their tops too

LargeProsecco · 18/10/2020 07:40

Yes, I've found my people!!!

Short-arse here too!

My recommendation for activewear is M&S - their sports leggings often come in shorter lengths.

I have a lovely Ted Baker top that I wear as a dress/tunic 😂

But I did buy it years ago, is their sizing more petite friendly now?

TooMinty · 18/10/2020 09:05

I find Sweaty Betty 7/8 leggings just the right (full) length on me. Although I do also buy the full length and wear with the ankles rolled up a couple of times, doesn't bother me for yoga/low impact exercise but might unroll during high impact...

RoginaInWellies · 18/10/2020 09:18

This is great - I've just found you all! I'm 4'11", size 8-ish with size 1 feet. Even trainers are tricky as it's harder to find ones without velcro fastenings. I'm in my 50s and I can tie my own shoelaces! I have been eyeing up kids DMs again. I used to wear them as a student and I wish I'd kept them as they didn't have zips and looked like adults ones. Petite shoe places are hit and miss with their styles.

pinkgin85 · 18/10/2020 09:37

Oh hello! I'm 5'1 and size 6, shoe size 3.5/4.

I mostly shop at asos/topshop for jeans and trousers but find that I can wear tops from most places as my torso is reasonably long. I recently discovered the asos silhouette range of jeans which also come in petite and I got the perfect mom jeans which fit my slightly wider hips really well.

Sooverthemill · 18/10/2020 09:42

I got a nice jumper from white stuff this week (20% off promotion) which I imagine is supposed to be cropped but is longer on me and will go over leggings I think. I've found it helpful to find an item you have and measure length and then compare to the measurements on the website.

mena51 · 18/10/2020 11:55

Has anybody bought trousers from Seasalt petite before? Looking at them and wondering what their sizing is like in general. The inseam (28 inches) seems a bit long for me. How do they fit compared to the likes of Boden which is always too big in the waist for me?

Speaking of American labels being more petite friendly, totally agree! I used to have an obsession with American Apparel when I was in uni, their stuff fit me really well (arm length, overall size, waist etc) but nowadays I don't know what the quality is like as it's no longer made in USA.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 18/10/2020 18:55

I'm 5 ft and size 10 hourglass .. I get on really well with zara jeans .

gubbbbbddaaaa · 18/10/2020 19:12

Plus I don't know about anyone else but I never buy petite tops , and I have size 4 feet so that isn't a problem either .. sleeves are sometimes too long but I just turn them up 🤷‍♀️.

TooMinty · 18/10/2020 19:26

Ok, here's a challenge - I really want a pair of very wide leg jeans. Blue and high waisted ideally. Do they exist in short length? And can I carry them off?!

Bubbletrouble43 · 18/10/2020 20:09

5'3 here and size 12, losing weight aiming for a 10. Anyone else of this height find they are borderline ie too short for main collections but not quite petite enough for the petite? Interested in knowing which petite ranges are on the bigger side. Sleeves and shoulders in particular always swamp me, but I'm booby so have to wear a 12.

safetyzone · 18/10/2020 20:42

Another thing I discovered recently but only if you have someone based in Australia or Asia to help you out (and is to your budget) - lululemon has an Asian fit range, with shorter length, shorter rises and smaller calve opening for a generally better fit for petites. I'm a bit obsessed, but it's a pain to have them ship over. Otherwise cropped or 7/8 leggings will work.

Sandseasurf · 18/10/2020 22:38

Happy to have found you all!
I’m 5’3” so borderline on paper but my waist is about an inch under my chest so between that and short arms I can’t get any fitted tops or dresses that work unless they’re petite.
Struggling for nice evening tops at the moment (in my 40’s) if anyone’s seen anything. Finally got an decent event in my diary (fingers crossed) but everything is a bit meh. Can’t do twee or flowery so Wallis is usually out. Thanks!

Sandseasurf · 18/10/2020 22:43

@TooMinty Next have some in their Petite range. I looked but I’ve too much bum for them!

Lurkingforawhile · 18/10/2020 23:04

This is a great thread! I'm 5 foot 2, size 10 -12. I have a short trunk and so tend to look a bit top heavy for some reason. Size 5 feet. I tend to go to M&S and Next for trousers and dresses, and jeans. I never know what suits me though. I find casual (like a pub dinner) really hard to do. I also found that normal length trousers just look wrong taken up. Some great ideas and brands in this thread though.

Lurkingforawhile · 18/10/2020 23:10

@TooMinty how are your legs and trunk proportions? I have ok length legs and a short trunk so anything high waisted doesn't work on me.

ellephant · 18/10/2020 23:27

My people! I'm 5'1, size 10 although nearing a 12 after gaining some lockdown weight. At the moment I'm loving Zara and also these slim mom jeans from Stradivarius on asos www.asos.com/prd/20253673?acquisitionsource=pasteboard bought them in both the blue and black denim.
I'm looking for some thicker materiel smock dresses for this winter if anyone has any recommendations?

Thanks! I might want even wider leg though...

I usually wear 30" leg high waisted Jamie skinny jeans from Topshop. So legs not as short as they could be given my height! But high waisted seems ok despite short torso, unless I am kidding myself?

icklekid · 19/10/2020 15:30

This is just a long sleeved t shirt but yes not overly long - I don’t find them too bad at all. Dresses and trousers would probably still be massive though...

popularinthe80s · 20/10/2020 07:45

Petite people, can I ask for some honest opinions?
I love the DMs (or another brand of chunky boot) and dress/skirt look. (See my username). But I tried on some and looked like a small child borrowing her dad's work boots.
Does anyone here wear them? Or monkey boot alternatives? I think there are a few giants (people over 5 foot 3) who wear these on the board, so may ask there for advice, but want to try my tribe first.

Secondly - I am losing my tether trying to find a long, drapy (not waterfall) navy cardie that is reasonably stylish. Tried lots of higher end shops, all beautiful, all colossal. I'm now on the brink of buying this. Please talk me down.

Hi think this is a great thread, so thank you 5ft size 3.5 - 4 shoes Usually wear a mix of Hobbs, Next petite and Seasalt

TooMinty · 20/10/2020 09:07

I wear DMs but I like the over sized look (just as well really 😂)
And I never wear them just with bare legs or tights, always leggings or skinny jeans which I think helps.
