Well thanks to this thread I’ve just gone mad in the Sainsbos petite section. Much obliged fellow shorties

Ifonlyiweretaller · 10/10/2020 21:40

@Toominty these are the leggings I buy: www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/black-straight-leggings/28957

TooMinty · 10/10/2020 21:43

Thanks! Don't have any leggings just now that I don't have to have a turn up in...

Itsalwayssunnyupnorth · 10/10/2020 21:48

Love this thread! Didn’t quite make 5 foot and need some serious wardrobe assistance that doesn’t require scissors and iron on hem 🤦🏼‍♀️

gaggiagirl · 10/10/2020 21:50

I like Sainsbury's petite..But...I tried a petite tailored blazer from there and the fit was terrible. The shoulders were very wide. I looked like I was off to play American football in it. Or Alexis Carrington...I can't decide which.

Justtryingtobehelpful · 10/10/2020 21:52

I can't think of who would be the equivalent. It's always perplexed me. I got a petite wool knee length skirt there years ago and it's still good.

They do basics so well.

safetyzone · 10/10/2020 21:56

5 foot size 6-8 here. Not really buying clothes much anymore but here are brands that work for me:

Topshop petite when I was in my 20s
Petite bateau t shirts
Uniqlo
Muji
H&M

If budget allows, and for dressier stuff, j crew petite is great. Bought a petite down parka which is going strong every winter.

I have bought cos and arket items that work but have to be selective on styles.

Ironically designer things can work better than some high street.

If nothing works, a good tailor. I've done some complete remodelling on outfits with a tailor before . Also had a winter coat custom made.

NearWildHeaven · 10/10/2020 21:59

I hear you gaggiagirl

So many ranges are a bit and miss. I think this is why a thread like this is so needed.

I can confirm I think the Sainsbos shirt dress is pretty true to size. I bought the 8 and I think it’s ok. I tend to be an 8 on top and 10 on my bottom.

BabyPigeon · 10/10/2020 22:02

For ppl who dislike polyester, Lands end have cotton options for petites and they regularly have sales on. They often send codes via email if you're subscribed.

NearWildHeaven · 10/10/2020 22:03

I love J Crew stuff but it is so ££££

Boden petite can be good too. I got my coat there with a discount code. And I love their petite jersey shirts. Perfect for current working from home

purpleme12 · 10/10/2020 22:07

I don't really shop online cos I find it such a faff sending stuff back. So much of these things people are mentioning are online

SmallestInTheClass · 10/10/2020 22:13

I've found my tribe. I'm about 5 ft and 8-10. I have a short body and long arms so sleeves are OK but waistlines of anything fitted are always too low. I used to like DP petite but been buying more in M &S recently. I'm shoe size 2.5-3 and Sarenza was my go to for shoes as they had 100s of pairs in size 2 or 2.5, but they ha e closed in th UK. Where do other petite footed ladies find nice leather boots etc? Kids shoes are great for trainers and casual but not for smarter stuff. Anyone got ideas for petite to follow on insta?

NearWildHeaven · 10/10/2020 22:13

I much prefer seeing things live purpleme12

I have had some success with Sainsbury’s locally and Debenhams (Principles petite mostly) but I know how difficult it can be

TooMinty · 10/10/2020 22:18

Ok, I need more Mint Velvet recommendations. Have two pairs of black leggings in my basket but still £12 short of free shipping. They don't have any cosy looking cardigans... Anyone got the batwing v neck jumper?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 10/10/2020 22:19

Oh hai fellow short arses!

5'0 here and a large size 10. Currently failing at slimming down to an 8. (I actually have a shortie thread on the go on the weight loss forum)

Re clothes: I buy my jeans in m&s, topshop and some river island. Coats are a nightmare. Help there would be great.

I've recently discovered Zalando. They have some good petite stuff.

IceniWarrior · 10/10/2020 22:20

I have a batwing jumper from there but think it looks too big. I find their tops large in size. Biker jeans good.

AuldFox · 10/10/2020 22:20

5 foot 3 size 12 here. I’m just place marking, hello fellow petite ladies shortarses Grin

babbi · 10/10/2020 22:23

Hi . I need this advice thread too please.
5ft 1 size 6 ... size 3 feet ...
I’m tiny 🙄

CountFosco · 10/10/2020 22:24

I would love a proper wool coat but can't find one in my size.

Boden petite blazer these are phenomenal quality and I'd recommend to all petite women. They do coats that are above 50% wool but it really pisses me off that they no longer do 100% wool coats, I have an incredible boiled woolcoat from them that is about 10 years old and is so my warmest coat.

J Crew have a couple of 100% wool coats.

AuldFox · 10/10/2020 22:25

@tyrannid

Are larger shorties allowed here? I know some people define petite as being shorter but also smaller all over. I'm 4ft 11 but also a size 18-20.

I'm glad it's not just me finding petite trousers are often too long! It's like they assume you are wearing huge heels all the time. I can't wear heels following an ankle injury so my trousers often drag on the floor Confused

Can’t see why not. Thread says any size is welcome, just 5’3 and under as per uk petite size height limit. I feel like a giant on this thread Wink
AuldFox · 10/10/2020 22:26

I have one of the J crew coats, fits very well.

babbi · 10/10/2020 22:26

@SmallestInTheClass I feel your pain .. size 3 shies sometimes too big for me Deleon the brand .
I’m not being overly helpful unfortunately.. but I tend to buy my boots and shoes 👠 in Asia or Canada where they cater for small women.

As you say trainers and great and cheap !

Moreanonymousme · 10/10/2020 22:28

Oh, great thread, thanks! I'm 4 foot 10 (just!) size 10-12. Find buying even petite length trousers difficult, just live in skinny jeans and leggings because at least then I can tuck them into boots! Otherwise, yucky trailing hems on the ground, reminiscent of the 90s style we all went around wearing! No thanks!

babbi · 10/10/2020 22:28

🙄🙄 shoes. And “ depending “ on the brand
