Most stylish parka you've seen?

Endlesscoathunt · 06/10/2020 19:32

I can't find the right parka despite seemingly endless searching. I want something simple, with clean lines (no fur, or detachable fur), not too bulky but warm enough for winter. Water proof or water resistant.

These are examples of ones I like:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-winter-parka-khaki/p5099119 (sold out in my size Sad)

And

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+coats+and+jackets/c0pcf/cotton+parka.htm?clr=C0PCF_OliveGrove_sw (dry clean only and super pricey)

Budget up to around 300... please help!

My north face arctic parka has been totally life changing, so warm, flattering, completely waterproof. It’s revolutionised winter for me! You do have to size up though.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/10/2020 16:07

I don't know how I missed this thread. I have got a Seasalt Janelle, a Uniqlo long down coat and two Protected Species coats. I am currently wearing the olive/khaki winter parka. It is excellent. It won't be warm enough for me in the dead of winter without an extra layer under, but the waterproofing and excellent hood will do the trick in the rain we have here. My Janelle is great as well. My Uniqlo is for warmth only; it will not cope with Lakes rain.

@Endlesscoathunt

Well, the Plant Hunter arrived - I have to say it's nicer than I expected! Very light and yet feels warm, and the Petite size is a revelation - I'm not tiny (just under 5'4) but the sleeves and shoulders and waist are such a better fit than anything else I've tried. This one might be a keeper. It's not the most stylish thing I've ever seen but for a warm waterproof coat I like it quite a lot. (Might have to get a nice wool one too sometime Wink)
Yay! Smile
rk47 · 20/10/2020 17:26

@Coconut2010 what’s the fit like? I it quite hard to tell from the photos

@Endlesscoathunt glad you’ve found something you like! It feels like an endless search sometimes

MuserOwl · 20/10/2020 18:22

@anotheremma ok so, Im 31" under the bust and 32.25 around the bust. That dorsnt sound right i know. No wonder i stick to bralettes.

Trumpton · 20/10/2020 18:29

I am devastated.... I have lost my Protected Species coat . Not at physio not at oncology, not In my car or dd’s car or dh’s car .
Not hanging up at home . We can all visualise it but can’t locate it !
I will ask St Anthony !

Onedropbeat · 20/10/2020 18:33

I have a sweaty Betty one from 6 years ago that’s been a real workhorse and looks brand new

It’s so lovely I always get complimented on it (which is a rare thing as I’m short and midsized)

BikeRunSki · 20/10/2020 18:35

I have a Toast one. At least 5 years old. Looks brave new still. I love it.

Ha ha! He told me he heard your prayer but he wants you to treat yourself to a new coat. He said buy one that is different from the one you lost in case it shows up after you buy a new coat.
Gekeos · 20/10/2020 18:39

Holland Cooper one is lovely has fur buts it's detachable and waterproof and very warm

Trumpton · 20/10/2020 18:54

@MuserOwl
That made me laugh .
I have already been on their website !
Great minds think alike !

Coconut2010 · 20/10/2020 19:12

@rk47 The fit is quite flexible as it can be tightened at the waist so can be worn fitted or looser. I ordered size 6-8 and I would say it’s true to size (I am a real size 8 but 6 in vanity sizing/high street brands). It is not as roomy as the Seasalt coat I tried in size 8 (which was shapeless). I guess it’s more fitted as the coat is meant to be more stylish. However I find it more practical, the hood is more covering, the zips are wind/waterproof and covered with buttons fastening etc The inside of the coat and the pockets is lined with the softest fleece.
The only thing I would add is that the sleeves are slightly on the short side for me but I am quite tall (5ft 7) with long arms so I guess it would be fine for most people.

rk47 · 20/10/2020 21:29

Thanks @Coconut2010 that’s so helpful. I’m a 6-8 too but a bit shorter (5’5”)...sounds like it might be a good option

Did you follow the Boob or Bust measuring instructions? There should be 4 measurements, 2 under bust (tight and snug) and 2 over bust (standing and leaning).

BobGalaxy · 20/10/2020 23:06

Woo! Glad you like the Plant Hunter OP! What colour did you go for?

MuserOwl · 21/10/2020 08:23

Oh no i didnt do that. I just got a tape. Later. On the bus now 🤪

Endlesscoathunt · 21/10/2020 08:50

@BobGalaxy I went for Oak, which is way more green than I was expecting. It does look different in different lights - the shoot on the website must have been in a very bright sunny day I guess as it looks totally yellow on there! Haven't taken the labels off yet but getting close (especially as it's pouring with rain today). What will I do when I no longer have to search for coats?!

Endlesscoathunt · 21/10/2020 08:59

@AnotherEmma yes it will definitely be a good thing! It's been a nice distraction from everything though, while it lasted Gin

AnotherEmma · 21/10/2020 09:01

I'm a bit sick of it tbh, I really need a new coat and still don't have one! And it's cold and wet!

Endlesscoathunt · 21/10/2020 09:09

Oh I do sympathise Sad maybe I can help?

Have you looked at Tresspass yet? Or Didricksons?

I was looking at the Faithful or Celebrity in Tresspass, both nice, and Didricksons have loads (if a bit pricey). Eg this?

AnotherEmma · 21/10/2020 09:56

You are kind thanks!
I've ordered the Jack Wolfskin Madison Avenue coat (in 2 different sizes this time!) so I'm going to wait until it arrives before ordering any more.
But if i have no joy with that, I think I'll try Didriksons next... the Erika looks good thanks.

rk47 · 21/10/2020 13:40

I feel the same @AnotherEmma really need a coat now, have been ordering things for weeks.

My Regatta one came today & it’s going back. Weird hood and terrible shape for me.

I’ve got a few more to try, wondering about the 3 in 1 Jack Wolfskin or a North Face one. Let me know how you get on with the Madison Avenue one, that’s one I’ve been looking at too.

PalacePaper · 22/10/2020 18:21

I tried a regatta one, also going back. Just not quite right. I've just ordered one from Roxy - someone on one of the coat threads recommended them, thank you whoever it was! I got this one but in a colour from last season so it was half price Smile

https://www.roxy-uk.co.uk/amy-3in1-waterproof-3-in-1-jacket-for-women-3613375529839.html

I've also ordered one from Boden but it's not going to arrive until January Confused If the Roxy one is a keeper I'll cancel the Boden order.
