Most stylish parka you've seen?

I can't find the right parka despite seemingly endless searching. I want something simple, with clean lines (no fur, or detachable fur), not too bulky but warm enough for winter. Water proof or water resistant.

These are examples of ones I like:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-winter-parka-khaki/p5099119 (sold out in my size Sad)

And

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+coats+and+jackets/c0pcf/cotton+parka.htm?clr=C0PCF_OliveGrove_sw (dry clean only and super pricey)

Budget up to around 300... please help!

I'm going to do that tomorrow. I have a tape measure somewhere. I need to warm it up.

MuserOwl · 17/10/2020 20:46

@AnotherEmma

Where did you get measured? Not M&S by any chance?!

(Sorry for derail, people! But the right size bra changed my life Grin)

Yes, it was actually. She seemed like a brisk efficient bra experty type. But the bra I bought was so loose I might as well not have bothered.

I just love wearing bralettes now. Pull them on over your head. It can be a bit of wriggly manoeuvre getting them on but they feel so nice on.

AnotherEmma · 17/10/2020 20:48

Do report back! so I can feel smug if I'm right

AnotherEmma · 17/10/2020 20:49

Cross post. Knew it would've been M&S. they're shite at measuring, they add 4 inches. So if they said 32 you're actually 28 and it's no wonder 32 felt too loose.

Coconut2010 · 17/10/2020 21:26

@Boopear I just followed your recommendation and ordered the protected species waterproof winter parka Wink It sounds like the perfect waterproof coat I was after! After one month of looking and ordering and sending back...

rk47 · 17/10/2020 22:05

@AnotherEmma - I was looking at the north face aral but thought it might be really thick padding and look like I was wearing a duvet. Was it thick?

@MuserOwl you can step into bralets and pull them up. I really didn’t think it’d work but it’s so much easier!

AnotherEmma · 17/10/2020 22:12

I'd say it's medium thickness, definitely padded but not duvet-like, if that makes any sense!

Boopear · 17/10/2020 22:49

@Coconut2010 ooh, best of luck! I have their normal parka and I love it. I now really want the winter one..Smile

rk47 · 18/10/2020 08:08

Thanks @AnotherEmma Smile
Think I’ll add that one to my list to try

Endlesscoathunt · 19/10/2020 08:29

Well my update is that all the coats have been terrible! John Lewis somehow nothing like the pic in my OP, like a big baggy green sack, nothing special.

My last hope is the Plant hunter, but looking at reviews I may have ordered the wrong size Hmm

I also tried on a Tresspass celebrity in a store - was a good shape and I think could work if Plant Hunter doesn’t, although wasn’t sure of the colour I tried (green) on me.

Overall I might be getting ready to dump the Parka idea completely! Stylish Parka may be an oxymoron after all, at least for me. I’m short and curvy and they don’t seem to do anything for me. Maybe time for a tailored wool coat instead... Smile

AnotherEmma · 19/10/2020 09:23

Sorry you've had no joy, OP. If it's any consolation, you're not alone!

The Plant Hunter reviews say that it comes up big but I thought it was pretty true to size. Anyway see how you get on.

Trumpton · 19/10/2020 09:36

Do look at Protected Species . I am evangelical about them . Best coat I ever had .
They haven’t got your size in at the moment and they are pricey . I got mine with 50% off a couple of years ago with a mumsnet code and have never regretted it .
OOOH !

LadyEloise · 19/10/2020 09:59

Are Protected Species warm as well as waterproof ?
They look very light.

Trumpton · 19/10/2020 10:28

I haven’t tried the Winter parka I linked to but have the ordinary one and just wear a fleece under it .
It’s completely waterproof but not rustly and the hood stays up !

They are mentioned and recommended by other people on this thread .

LadyEloise · 19/10/2020 11:47

Thank you @Trumpton
I have a Joules Stormont ( bought it a couple of years back ) which is similar to the Seasalt Janelle. It's grand. The sleeves aren't fleece lined which is a pity.
I preferred how the Joules one looked on me compared to the Janelle.
I don't think they do the Stormont anymore though, but probably do something similar.

friskybivalves · 20/10/2020 09:59

What about the water repellent quilted parka on the Zara website for £95.99? Looks v smart. They claim tested in labs to withstand temps down to -20 degC. Blimey. Looks lovely on their ahem willowy skinny model but comes in six sizes from XS to XXL.

friskybivalves · 20/10/2020 10:02

Oops here's the link. Weirdly the iPad site has far better photos of the coat I think but this takes you to the mobile site. The fur round hood is detachable. www.zara.com/uk/en/water-repellent-quilted-parka-p03427708.html

minipie · 20/10/2020 11:48

Hi OP, I’m on a similar hunt and am also small and curvy.

saw this Jack Wolfskin and it looks promising? www.jack-wolfskin.co.uk/windy-valley-coat-w/1306711-1910001.html

I've tried a similar one last year to the Zara one above but the furry collar part comes up really high and was annoying to wear. Seen this Fat Face one that comes in Navy and Khaki, it looks smart and cosy.

Coconut2010 · 20/10/2020 14:46

@Boopear I have received my Protected Species winter parka and OMG, I love it so much! It’s exceeded my expectations. It is perfect in all aspects, at the same time very practical but also very stylish. So much better than the Seasalt coal I ordered and sent back. No comparison. Thanks again for the recommendation!

EraOfTheGrey · 20/10/2020 15:51

I have the Protested Species Tour and got it for 25% off. It's lovely and the material is so soft, completely unlike any other waterproof coat material. I hate heavy noisy thick coats so I'll wear this with thermals and thin layers. Tour
I have my eye on the Winter Parka in Olive but they don't have my size.

Endlesscoathunt · 20/10/2020 15:53

Well, the Plant Hunter arrived - I have to say it's nicer than I expected! Very light and yet feels warm, and the Petite size is a revelation - I'm not tiny (just under 5'4) but the sleeves and shoulders and waist are such a better fit than anything else I've tried. This one might be a keeper. It's not the most stylish thing I've ever seen but for a warm waterproof coat I like it quite a lot. (Might have to get a nice wool one too sometime Wink)

OP posts:
Endlesscoathunt · 20/10/2020 15:54

Oh, and it's a 12 - I'm a 10-12 so I'd say true to size for a coat (room for layers underneath)
