Most stylish parka you've seen?

Endlesscoathunt · 06/10/2020 19:32

I can't find the right parka despite seemingly endless searching. I want something simple, with clean lines (no fur, or detachable fur), not too bulky but warm enough for winter. Water proof or water resistant.

These are examples of ones I like:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-winter-parka-khaki/p5099119 (sold out in my size Sad)

And

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+coats+and+jackets/c0pcf/cotton+parka.htm?clr=C0PCF_OliveGrove_sw (dry clean only and super pricey)

Budget up to around 300... please help!

I got 25% off, it’s waterproof, padded and has a huge hood. The one thing it doesn’t have is fleece lined pockets, I’ve only seen them on Finisterre coats though.

Looks good!

I think the Jack Wolfskin Madison Avenue had fleece lined pockets, the hood definitely was.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/11/2020 18:59

Yeah I’ve got an older version of the Madison Avenue, it’s called 5th Avenue. It’s about 6 years old now and i still wear it sometimes. I do rate JW but the Aigle is less outdoorsy looking.

AnotherEmma · 21/11/2020 21:05

@Paddingtonthebear
I think you ordered and returned the Fjallraven Greenland parka? Do you mind me asking why you returned it? What was the sizing/fit like?

Paddingtonthebear · 21/11/2020 22:10

Yes I had the Greenland parka. I had a size small which I would say was a roomy 10-12. I returned it because I didn’t think it would be warm enough for me. The zip was also quite temperamental

Paddingtonthebear · 21/11/2020 22:37

I ordered the Fjallraven Kiruna as well and I think it’s more stylish all over than the Greenland Parka but less warm according to them hence why I then ordered the Greenland

AnotherEmma · 21/11/2020 22:41

Hmmm. Thank you. I was looking at both of those but I ruled out the Kiruna as it's not waterproof. Was the Greenland generous around the hips/bum? (Just wondering if it would fit my curvy hourglass/pear figure ok.) I don't mind if it's not super warm as long as it's medium warm with room for me to layer up underneath.

MonkeysandParrots · 22/11/2020 00:34

Just popping in to say I’ve recently bought this ..it’s officially ‘shower proof’ but I’ve found it keeps me dry in full on rain and it’s definitely warm! Recommend.

Paddingtonthebear · 22/11/2020 08:27

AnotherEmma. It’s pretty roomy and has a drawstring inside for the waist area. It’s water resistant but not waterproof though.

The Aigle is quite similar in material and style but a bit nicer/smarter looking I think.

AnotherEmma · 22/11/2020 08:52

Thank you!

LightOfAThousandStars · 24/11/2020 11:50

@greenoak does the North Face Suzanne come up true to size? Thinking of ordering it in the sale and not sure whether to go for a Large or Medium (size 12).

Knittingnanny · 24/11/2020 12:35

Light, I’m a size 12 and bought the large Suzanne due to all the padding the medium was a bit constructing if you want a jumper underneath as well.

LightOfAThousandStars · 24/11/2020 19:18

@Knittingnanny thanks so much, that's good to know, will go for the Large as well.

Just saw this if anyone was considering Protected Species

Most stylish parka you've seen?
AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 12:46

Hallelujah! 352 coats later, I've finally got one that I've decided to keep Grin
It was a bargain too, £80 reduced from £150. If anyone is interested, it comes in black,
aubergine and red.
It doesn't really meet the original brief of "stylish" but it fits me and I like it which, as it turns out, is virtually impossible!

Frequentflier · 27/11/2020 13:49

I have been watching your quest, and thinking you should start a blog. Around the internet in 352 coats:) Glad you found the one. That is a lovely parka; the aubergine is especially nice.

Outwithreason · 27/11/2020 14:36

Thank you so much @AnotherEmma! I just ordered the aubergine one for £68 with the discount code TOGREWARDS15.

AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 15:59

@Frequentflier
Thanks! Ha yes that would be an excellent blog title - and it would be populated with terrible selfies of me in the coats Grin

@Outwithreason
You're welcome! I thought I got a bargain and you have managed an even better deal, nice one! Hope you like it when it arrives.

I've taken the fur off as I'm not a fan. Wore the coat immediately (delivery was well timed as it's freezing today) and it kept me nice and warm Smile

It's not quite as good quality as some of the coats I ordered and return but I figure in future years if and when I've lost the baby weight I might try again and treat myself to another coat. Need at least a year to recover from this order though Grin

AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 16:01

*ordeal

Outwithreason · 27/11/2020 16:34

I wouldn't have bought it without detachable fur!

I have invested in expensive coats before and have tired of them before they showed any wear & tear and couldn't justify replacing them. This will be perfect (if it fits).

LightOfAThousandStars · 27/11/2020 20:33

@AnotherEmma that looks great! Does it have velco down the front or popper buttons?

AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 21:00

@LightOfAThousandStars
Velcro. I'd prefer poppers tbh but it's not a deal breaker given how desperate I got!

AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 21:02

There are two poppers at the top where it attaches at the neck, but Velcro bits the rest of the way down.

LightOfAThousandStars · 27/11/2020 21:05

Thanks, I'm tempted to order the Aubergine myself, beautiful colour!

AnotherEmma · 27/11/2020 21:14

At £68 it would be rude not to Wink
