Most stylish parka you've seen?

Endlesscoathunt · 06/10/2020 19:32

I can't find the right parka despite seemingly endless searching. I want something simple, with clean lines (no fur, or detachable fur), not too bulky but warm enough for winter. Water proof or water resistant.

These are examples of ones I like:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-winter-parka-khaki/p5099119 (sold out in my size Sad)

And

www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+coats+and+jackets/c0pcf/cotton+parka.htm?clr=C0PCF_OliveGrove_sw (dry clean only and super pricey)

Budget up to around 300... please help!

@ivftake1 - keep looking at uniqlo and have 2 in my basket! Which one do you have?

@BobGalaxy I do like the Plant Hunter! Do you have one? I’m wondering if they are a bit bulky in real life? (I’m chest heavy so don’t want to look like a bag of spuds!)

M&S have some nice ones in

ivftake1 · 07/10/2020 19:10

I have these two

I’ve got an earlier version of this one, slightly different design. But it’s lightweight and waterproof, and I love it

Thats lovely too @moonfacebaby :)

I've gone from having no choices to too many!

Order them all, pick your favourite and send all but one or two back!

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/10/2020 19:55

I've just fallen love with an UGG one on the next site.

Then I saw the price Shock

friskybivalves · 07/10/2020 20:02

OP the Barbour Mirabelle is 10% off at cho.co.uk with code EXTRA10 - if that makes your decision any easier/harder?!

Endlesscoathunt · 07/10/2020 20:06

Ah thanks @friskybivalves! Saw this just too late - just clicked buy on a Uniqlo basket - bought a couple of coats and a top Blush - only came to £150, my bargain hunter instinct kicked in :)

Will see what they're like and whether the search needs to go on...

Very tempting! Might stick with Uniqlo order for now but very tempted to do a Seasalt 'private shopping' appointment and try all their coats on

Yeah you have to order a few and try I think. I’m not sure the Fjallraven Kiruna parka I’ve bought will be warm enough. Which is a shame as it’s a lovely cut and really understated. They do another warmer one called the Greenland parka but it’s £350. But.. I had a look again on amazon tonight and it was down to £198 so I ordered it before the price went back up! (it did). Will see what that’s like when it arrives. They say it’s warmer that the Kiruna.
I ordered a Finisterre Solus but it was not warm enough for me for winter so have returned it. Also have been looking online at this one but not sure about it, not keen on the fur hood so haven’t ordered yet

Paddingtonthebear · 07/10/2020 20:30

The warmest coat I’ve had, surprisingly was this one which I got for £27 on amazon. Total bargain, its looking a bit tired now after 3 winters though.

The other really warm and waterproof coat I’ve had in the past is this, I really rated it but it’s a bit more practical outdoorsy looking than a parka

I have two protected species coats, a black commuter and a shorter khaki jacket, had them for about three years now and they still look brand new, completely waterproof, I would highly recommend them if you’re not wanting anything bulky

I bought this about a month ago, got caught in downpour at the weekend and remained warm and dry. I like it because it doesn’t have any fur or fleece on it and is very simple and stylish ( I think so anyway 😅)

SingingSands · 07/10/2020 22:27

@Endlesscoathunt sorry - have just seen that you asked if the Protected Species is warm.

Yes is my answer - warm and wind proof. I've been wearing it with just a t-shirt recently. I made the mistake of wearing a hoody with it at the weekend and was seriously overheating 🥵

BobGalaxy · 07/10/2020 22:31

@Endlesscoathunt my Plant Hunter arrived today! I bought the 'midnight' colour. I was looking at it this time last year but continued searching for the ultimate parka and have come back to the plant hunter again, so I just bought it! First outing this eve - it feels light and not at all bulky, but the soft fleecy bit inside makes it feel cosy. I like the length - I wanted something that actually covered my arse and legs and wasn't just a long jacket, which a lot of parkas seem to be.

Paddingtonthebear · 07/10/2020 22:52

The Luna Didrikson looks lovely! but it’s pushing knee length on that model that must be 6ft. I would look swamped in that at 5’3

Endlesscoathunt · 08/10/2020 10:13

@Paddingtonthebear yes I'm a bit worried about 'swamping' in the coat I've ordered - the Hybrid Down from uniqlo. Will report back!

@BobGalaxy thank you! I'm looking to try on a Plant Hunter soon - quite keen on the Oak or Bitter Cocoa colours...

I love my Protected Species . Well worth looking at .
A bonus is that it is extremely good tempered about being mistreated !

KateCantab · 09/10/2020 09:19

@Endlesscoathunt I don’t feel swamped in my hybrid down coat. I’m 5’7 and bought a medium. It has deep pockets and the hood is a really good size. I have to confess to also buying the block tech raincoat at the same time. Very lightweight but great for layering. It was on offer though. As a side note, I now realise that I am fed up with quilted coats. My DH will be pleased.

ivftake1 · 09/10/2020 13:24

I'm 5'5 and got a small

Endlesscoathunt · 13/10/2020 17:21

For my fellow coat enthusiasts I thought I'd update Smile

Uniqlo Hybrid Down arrived today. At first I thought it was no good but then it grew on me - it's very simple but with lots of clever details and feels both warm and light. It is quite long on me so extra warm and feels very wearable, if a bit plain. I am leaning towards keeping it - how's everyone else getting on?

I love mine. Plain, warm, really nice fluffy hood
