Oh @teta Sorry to hear you are feeling down. It really isn't just you if it's any comfort. I am normally a relentlessly positive fucking annoying Pollyanna sort but the last week or so has flattened me - I think it's just a culmination of things and then the final straw of (for perfumistas in England ofc) build up to doomy announcements today.

I know every single one of us has Other Shit going on and we don't always mention it on here so Thanks and Brewfor all. Our threads have been going a long time (I wonder when the first one was? Will have to look) and they genuinely cheer me up as it's a bit of brightness and friendliness in a very gloomy world. As is perfume itself of course Smile

(Funnily enough I said last week to DH that my threshold for seeking medical advice is when I don't feel up to putting perfume on! (I'm bad for ignoring stuff, it's really quite stupid and irresponsible) and Friday I didn't feel up to SOTD so rang my doctor and it was the right decision so there you go - who needs a thermometer as a diagnostic tool when you have perfume Smile)

This year has been incredibly difficult for everyone (isn't it hard not to be cliché central talking about this!) and the rest of MN (and RL) seems to have gone a bit Shock so it's lovely we are still here being nice to each other Wink. If anyone would like to have a vent about RL I think they should feel free. Virtual shoulder pats and comforting or cheering scent suggestions will be provided I am sure.

We need a perfume MN emoji I think.

Shrillharridan · 12/10/2020 10:35

Agreed.
I don't venture "out there" much anymore on mn.
Dh will start asking what I want re: Xmas soon and I've no clue!
Ugh.
Hope you're ok floofy?
I've got a virtual neuro appt on 30th.

Shrillharridan · 12/10/2020 10:36

teta
I'm feeling low too. Vety unlike me and very inconvenient as I've got such a busy month ahead....😵

KaliforniaDreamz · 12/10/2020 15:48

Ah Teta and Shrill xxx

i like it here too. Elsewhere is a sea of conflict i could honestly do without.

SOTD Coco Chanel (ML version as i am drowning in dupes)

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 16:41

Sorry to hear of low moods. I got a delivery today from PP. Be Delicious for my DD17 and I thought I’d try J’adore as I’ve never tried it but reviews seemed good and it had notes that I like. It’s quite nice, improving but on the sweet side to my nose. I do wonder why perfume houses put so much into advertising certain scents. I think Dior has some far superior perfumes to J’adore. Granted this is a dupe but the reviews from regulars say it’s near identical. Anyone else like it?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/10/2020 20:01

💐💐💐 for all sad perfumistas. I had a proper sobbing meltdown on Friday. It is all A Lot.

SOTD JM Wood Sage and Seasalt.

PearsMorgan · 12/10/2020 20:07

Shrillharridan · 12/10/2020 20:14

Shrillharridan · 12/10/2020 20:14

Meeting over thank god

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 20:37

Any of you tried Jenny Glow? It’s an Irish version of Jo Malone but looks like they do other dupes too. I have the pear and freesia which is nice. They do a sea salt and wood sage @Judystilldreamsofhorses

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 20:37

makesscents.ie/

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 20:38

Also on amazon

1frenchfoodie · 12/10/2020 20:54

I know what you mean teta. I have nothing to complain about in the grand scheme of things but for some reason I am getting the rage with work banging on about ‘resiliance’ and ‘wellbeing’ and the way annoying corporate speak grates sooo much more over Zoom. The warmth of Amber Teutonic as SOTD was a comfort today.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 12/10/2020 22:10

Im fed up. fed up of everything. Just want to hibernate for a while in a cocoon of something soft and warm and nice smelling. that would be the dream

SOTD was Kenzo World EDT. its nice enough, interesting pear note. inoffensive really but it was dirt cheap so good for spraying when i dont feel like a powerhouse

Benjispruce2 · 12/10/2020 22:25

I’ll get my coat.

Shrillharridan · 13/10/2020 13:35

benji I've heard of jenny glow but no experience of it.
Sotd pp by the fireplace
My mmm replica by the fireplace candle arrived today! Grin

Shrillharridan · 13/10/2020 13:37

foodie Amber tectonic sounds amazing

PearsMorgan · 13/10/2020 13:43

SOTD sesame chan. Lunch an extremely large bowl of pea soup. Both very comforting although the latter might make me fall asleep on the next bloody zoom call.

Benjispruce2 · 13/10/2020 16:07

Thanks @Shrillharridan! They seem to have now made some dupes of big perfume houses in addition to the Jo Malone style scents (though theirs are edt not cologne) I’m guessing C XIX is Chanel 19.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/10/2020 17:00

I’ve heard good things about Jenny Glow, benji. I always feel a bit funny about copycat perfume though, in the same way as fake designer bags, and illegal downloads. Like it’s kind of “cheating the maker”. Is that just me being silly?

shrill how was your St Eval Embers candle? I feel like mine smells of nothing - so disappointing when the others have been great.

french my work are all about “staying connected” as well as “wellbeing”. In reality my line manager has been AWOL since March, and it takes about ten attempts before he will even reply to an email. I feel like I am bumbling about in the dark, on my own. He’s always been pretty crap, but at least in actual work you can go to his office.

SOTD MMM Fireplace for a walk in the park.

Benjispruce2 · 13/10/2020 17:07

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I don’t think of copycat perfumes in the same way as fake handbags. Fake designer gear is poor quality whereas good perfume dupes are replicas using the same ingredients. I can’t feel sorry for big perfume houses that charge us £100 for a product that costs them so little to make. You’re paying for brand and marketing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/10/2020 17:19

That’s an interesting take on it, benji - I think I actually like buying part of the brand! I could never afford a Chanel handbag, but I have just done my nails in Rouge Noir, even though I could have got a Rimmel dupe for a couple of quid which would be just as good.

I teach marketing and branding, so I should be more savvy!

Benjispruce2 · 13/10/2020 17:45

Don’t get me wrong, I splurged on Chanel Cristalle in lockdown (£90)as the smell alikesI tried just didn’t cut it(Yardley Jade I’m looking at you!) but I’m always open to finding a bargain. I didn’t even know dupes existed before MN! It was like a whole new world opened up to me.

Benjispruce2 · 13/10/2020 17:46

Also, I only went looking at dupes because I wanted perfumes that had been discontinued so had no choice.

Shrillharridan · 13/10/2020 17:47

Sadly, it was very disappointing judy but nevermind. It smelt of Pepper and rotten leaves to my nose! 😒
I'm going to add my views on dupes:
I have no issue buying dupes from high Street brands as the actual juice costs pence for the big labs to make - the money all goes on renting concession stands and huge star/model led ad campaigns.
But I wouldn't feel comfortable buying dupes of handmade frags like Andy tauer or 4160 tuesdays.
I think its worth paying for quality.
I don't do bags or shoes so can't comment. I imagine a handmade leather bag us a thing of beauty though!
