Still working through my sample haul, Do Son and MMR sailing day have been put in the reject pile, so far I've been a bit disappointed with the Jo Malones I found Wood Sage and ses salt very insipide too Judy and basil and manderin disappeared after an hour.

1frenchfoodie · 20/11/2020 21:06

Back to an old favourite Naomi Goodsir’s Bois d’ascese , dry smoky, peaty, loveliness. Bit niche perhaps with a opening blast of campfire and birchtar but so enjoyable. Comes in a lovely minimalist bottle with bakelite top in beautifully folded box/cocoon, attention to detail I still remember a year+ after buying.

PearsMorgan · 20/11/2020 21:24

@KateMAB bah I thought I’d found another do son fan. I am the only one on here i think.

SOTD beyond Rose

Considering Kingdom Botanica. Anyone sniffed it?

riotlady · 21/11/2020 00:40

@PearsMorgan yes it was in my discovery box today actually! It was lovely from what I could tell from my little sample spray but haven’t been able to properly test it on myself yet. It was very fresh and herbal, not as sharp as I was expecting, I don’t think there’s any juniper in it but I got a definite whiff of gin-yness which I liked.

KateMAB · 21/11/2020 12:51

Sotd is diptyque tan dao, which I do like

teta · 21/11/2020 13:21

I am scented with several perfumes from the January Scent Project. Umm... They're all rather interesting . Eiderantler smells like a witchery potion, brewed up in a lair in some foreboding dark place.

i love Do Son on my friend but not on me.
SOTD Coco Mademoiselle

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/11/2020 22:00

SOTD MH L’Air de Rien. I think this might have been discontinued? MIL asked me what I wanted for Christmas and mine is almost done, but it wasn’t on the MH website. I did track it down elsewhere at a heavy discount, so hoping it’s okay.

ApocalypseNow · 21/11/2020 23:32

Judystilldreams That's curious about L'Air de Rien. I can't find it in stock anywhere. I thought it was Miller Harris's best known perfume?

As a sidenote I recently got MH Vetiver Insolent in my perfume subscription and it's so good! Smells like Christmas.

riotlady · 22/11/2020 17:25

SOTD is Rook Undergrowth. I’m obsessed with how it smells, I can’t stop sniffing myself but I’m not sure if I’d wear it in public? I smell like I’ve taken a bath in really rich minty soil.

Does anyone have a scent they only wear at home?

PearsMorgan · 22/11/2020 17:27

@riotlady I’m a bit careful with Jicky...

teta · 22/11/2020 17:46

I have a bottle of undergrowth @riotlady. I love it too . I tend to wear it as an olfactory refresher, when I'm tired of perfumes. I think it's primarily a Vetiver perfume and it softens down and becomes quite feminine after a while. I do have to be in the mood for it however.
Masque Milano l' Atessa is Sotd - such a beautiful velvety soft iris.

KateMAB · 22/11/2020 20:03

Sotd is jm Amber and Ginger, has held up really well and has had a unanimous thumbs up from the family.

Form1ess · 22/11/2020 20:53

Sotd a sample of Olfactive O, Woody it has a great description the notes are right up my street, cedar, black pepper, smoked leathers but smells totally underwhelming to and on me.
riotlady some of the scents in the Bloom smoke and tar pack are amazing but I wouldn't inflict them on someone else.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/11/2020 21:19

apocalypse I have emailed MH customer services to ask.

SotD FM Hiver.

FloraMacDonald · 23/11/2020 11:49

SOTD liqueur Charnelle - Pierre Guillaume, one of my Nose diagnosis samples. It's vanilla & tobacco, very pleasant. I'm not getting the pepper at all. BTF but without the wow factor.
At least I can smell perfume properly again!

EvelynBeatrice · 23/11/2020 12:41

SOTD - back to Estée Lauder Sensuous. Wearing the discontinued Sensuous Noir now only on special occasions to eke it out. Finally received sample Agent Provocateur Blue Silk but although it’s ok, on me it resembles Rochas Byzance more than Sensuous Noir, despite the comparisons on Fragrantica. It lacks something.
The Perfume Shop has some good bargains at the moment. I nabbed Rive Gauche for MIL and a Youth Dew for me. You ladies are a bad influence. I originally intended to keep searching for my one and only love - the elusive non sweet woody fragrance with a boudoir type powdery ending, but I have given up on that and seem to be acquiring a wardrobe of different things. I recently purchased L’air du temps for an elderly relative and got a squirt. On me, it is so like my old beloved Fidgi.., another one I’d like.

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/11/2020 13:24

*Evelyn( and your comment has sent me off to buy Rive Gauche for my mother!
SOTD MH Tea Tonique, inoffensive easy wear.
I love L''air de Rien hope it isn't over.
That irritates me.

teta · 23/11/2020 14:13

Sotd is Amouage Gold - the modern version . It's meant to be reminiscent of the original Rive Gauche/Chanel no.5/Caleche. Either way it's a very grown up, rather serious, rather powerful and a very smooth perfume. And I'm grown up enough to wear it - Yay😁.

There has to be some advantage to being in your 50's.

SOTD MMM Fireplace.

I had a reply from Miller Harris. They are having stock issues with LDR so have removed it from their website, but offered to sell me some from a small supply. It hasn’t been discontinued. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Calmasasleepycat · 23/11/2020 22:48

There’s something very enjoyable about bundling up into a winter coat to go for a frosty morning walk, having sprayed perfume lavishly around your neck and cleavage. Today it was Carner Barcelona Besos, a musky white flowers and iris that lasted all day. I tried another one of theirs, called By Any Other Name. It is a very pleasant fresh rose but only lasted about an hour and a half!

ApocalypseNow · 23/11/2020 23:07

Good news, thanks for the update judy!

PearsMorgan · 25/11/2020 08:54

@riotlady thanks I just dabt and bought a Kingdom Scotland sample set on the basis that the others will make great stocking fillers...

SOTD was molecule 04 (blind pick from samples). It’s ok but made my daughter cry. Then I put tea tree oil on a spot quite near my nose so that’s my actual SOTD

FloraMacDonald · 25/11/2020 14:00

SOTM Tam Dao, SOTA Bowmaker - both from my nose sample pack. Love both of these.

Judy did you start your candle? I'm considering getting myself one.

riotlady · 25/11/2020 17:23

Hope you enjoy it @PearsMorgan! I loved it on the paper but it didn’t smell as nice on me, it was a bit flat. I might try and convince my partner to try it.

SOTD is Brocard Black Swan Princess, a sort of moody rose and violet. Rose scents remind me of trying to make perfume out of my mum’s rose petals when I was a kid.
