@teta I tend to go for the teeny roll on ones to test then bigger sprays if I know I like them!
SOTD is the PP of musc ravageur which has incredibly staying power

Benjispruce2 · 08/11/2020 13:15

I find the oils closer to the original scent and I think they actually recommend them too.The addition of ethanol to enable a spray does change it slightly.I like to order both and layer, it’s cheap enough!

riotlady · 08/11/2020 14:24

Hi :) is it ok if I join? I can’t really call myself a perfumista as I haven’t really worn perfume in years (I was obsessed with DKNY Be Delicious Red in the cute apple shaped bottle when I was a teenager) but I’ve been playing around with some samples lately and enjoying myself! Recently I’ve tried-

Penhaligon’s Cairo- I love this one so much, I can’t stop smelling myself when I wear it. It’s warm, spicy, comforting and somehow sexy at the same time?

Dolce and Gabbana The One- Nice enough but reminds me too much of the perfume my mum wears.

Elizabeth Arden White tea and mandarin blossom- I liked this one a lot, very light and fresh. Weirdly my partner thought this was the sexiest one, I would wear it to work Confused

Penhaligon’s Castile- I’m surprised by how much I HATED this! The reviews all seemed to suggest it was light and soapy but on me it was like really overpowering men’s aftershave.

PearsMorgan · 08/11/2020 17:29

Hello and welcome @riotlady

SOTE is Ex Idolo Ryder which I got as a sample with my birthday Tauer. It’s amber with a hefty dose of frankincense and like a less sweet au coeur du desert. I loves it.

Perfume society men box I got for Father’s Day has gone so well DH has asked me for some more samples but not a big bottle for Christmas so I’ve ordered a Libre Etat dOrange sampler to share

PearsMorgan · 08/11/2020 17:50

@FloofyFoolishAndYetFragrant do I need a winter perfume box? I think I might.

teta · 08/11/2020 17:53

Welcome @riotlady.
I've just made a gf lemon drizzle cake with mashed potato but then impatiently tried to release it from the tin too early, when it was still hot. The cake has now split into 3 pieces.
I have no patience any more....

@teta I also tend to go for the PP oils as a "tester" and they have better longevity IMO. (Have PMed you btw!)

@riotlady welcome (although I am slightly worried as my teen DD loves the Be Delicious perfumes and I love D & G The One...you're not my DD I hope) Grin

EVERYONE needs a winter perfume box! In reality, I have a small bedroom with a small dressing table area (actually a shelf of my bookshelf Smile) so with my perfumes, like my clothes, I have a winter/summer "wardrobe" and put them away and swap them over. For example, scents like Opium which I wouldn't wear in the Spring/Summer get put away and Neroli Portofino etc would be put away in the Summer box.

I just adore rituals and lists and things like that though Blush It makes me really happy organising them, changing them over and getting out "new" clothes and perfume every six months. As I also have such a poor memory it genuinely feels like I have bought new things Blush

Also, there are very few special selected scents that stay out all year Grin

riotlady · 08/11/2020 20:37

Thank you for the welcome, everyone!
Be reassured @FloofyFoolishAndYetFragrant, I’m 28 in a few weeks so been a while since I was anyone’s teen daughter!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/11/2020 21:50

SOTD Diptyque Eau Duelle. I don’t have a winter perfume box (I do swap wardrobes of clothes though) because sometimes I just want to smell of summer holidays in December. #rebel

Welcome, riotlady

Shrillharridan · 09/11/2020 04:08

Ah, insomnia, my old friend....
I get my results tomorrow.
I've sent for a sample of mmm replica coffee break.
Welcome riotlady

FloraMacDonald · 09/11/2020 10:21

Good luck with the results shrill.
Probably Bowmaker today, when I get round to having a shower!

Choux · 09/11/2020 11:46

Hi - I'm a very occasional poster on this thread. Thanks to @FloraMacDonald I ordered some samples from Les Senteurs which I have been trying over the last few days:

LADDM - I wanted to know why you were all raving about this. Now I do! But I think it is somewhat similar to MH Étui Noir which I have a full bottle of. I checked and many of the base notes are the same. Am not currently at home where the étui noir is to do a direct comparison (am in a support bubble / giving care to elderly parents so at their house now) but plan to check out which which scent / notes I prefer.

The next two choices were made under time pressure on the last day I could order samples:

Serge Lutens - de Profundis. Chosen as the Les Senteurs' description mentioned October days and it had Bergamot and plum listed as notes. It's a bit sweet to start. I smelt the violet (Parma violets) more than the plum then mellowed to something akin to a soapy aroma. Like stepping into the fanciest laundry ever! I didn't hate it but I didn't love it at first smell. Will try it again.

Kilian - intoxicated. Chosen as it was described as conjuring up the scent of Turkish coffee with a base of burned caramelised sugar. I love coffee. This is described as unisex but I think it's more masculine than unisex. Not sure if I'm a fan of the cardamom but the base notes are divine although by that point i have to put my nose directly on the skin. I'm single but if I met a man smelling of this I would definitely get up close and personal!!! Am undecided if I would wear this in public as I think it may be too masculine but as a lockdown scent just for me I like it.

SOTD is LADDM.

Are the Nose Samples available all year round? If so I may make some more considered sample choices in January!

Happy Monday to all.

teta · 09/11/2020 15:42

I have vintage gold amouage on my wrist. Wow. How come I totally dislike Chanel no. 5 but this is just mind-blowingly beautiful.

Ooh, does that mean I get my first Enabler badge, Choux? Grin
Bowmakers is lovely but not much sillage.

Shrillharridan · 09/11/2020 16:32

Hi
Soo..
I've got 2 holes in my brain! (Won't be a shock to some...)
Other than that nothing seen so being referred for 2nd opinion on eye...
Sotd skylar vanilla sky....very sweet

Choux · 09/11/2020 16:55

Yes (but I can't believe it would be your first!)
teta · 09/11/2020 17:57

Are you feeling a little happier now @Shrillharridan? You must have been on tenterhooks all weekend .

1frenchfoodie · 09/11/2020 20:07

No SOTD as I got ambushed by my miserable 4yo (laryngitis) on my way to put on some nice perky Comme des Garcons Sugi.

Welcome@riotlady - Penhaligon’s Cairo sounds lovely, have you tried their Much ado about the Duke - another woody, spicy rose (no vanilla)?

Yes Nose samples are available year round @choux , I tend to have a running sample list for them. Intoxicated sounds interesting.

Two holes, eek shrill , though your exclamation mark looks insouciant and not finding anything sounds positive MRI wise. I’m confused but hope it is good news for you.

I’m a DS&Durga fan Flora, Bowmakers included - though I’d happily swap it for Cowboy Grass or Amber Teutonic nowadays.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/11/2020 20:26

SOTD Black Opium.

riotlady · 10/11/2020 08:46

Thanks @1frenchfoodie, I haven’t but I will add it to my (rapidly growing!) list of scents to try!

FloraMacDonald · 10/11/2020 10:45

Hello riotlady

How are you feeling about things, shrill?

Who else recently got Nose samples? What do you think of the sprays? Mine don't work very well, which is stopping me completely overspraying myself in Much Ado About the Duke! It's not the only one that seems a bit wonky. Sad

Shrillharridan · 10/11/2020 11:02

Hi
I feel ok. Neurologist didn't seem concerned so I'm not.
2nd opinion appt for eye made for next Friday.
So...no answers yet but he doesn't think its MS or anything "bad".
Thank you very much for all the good wishes x

1frenchfoodie · 10/11/2020 12:42

Thats a pain in the dodgy Nose samples Flora of about 25 I have from them (most recently about 6 weeks ago) only one is dodgy, the rest work really well.

Shrillharridan · 10/11/2020 18:14

Hmmmm
Do I need to try floral Street ylang-ylang espresso?

FloofyFoolishYetFragrant · 10/11/2020 19:09

Holes? Shrill Good they don't seem to be too concerned though, and second opinions are always good for brain/eye stuff. It is an MDT? I've had a few brain/eye investigations so if you want to PM me feel free.

I hate dodgy spray samples, it's so annoying. I think I hate dabber style more though.

"sometimes I just want to smell of summer holidays in December" I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ghost you now Judy Grin

SOTD is some teeny PP oil bottle called Lotus Blossom. No idea what it's a dupe for, but it's pleasant in a "just something to put on after a bath when you're not going out again" kind of way. I want to break out the (vintage) Obsession but it's not cold enough. I'm saving it...
