a few hour's later and areas the perfume has 'caught' have a delicious smoky cherry scent, the exact point i sprayed is a little harsh for me.
potential tho. and an unusual one for MH.

FloofyFoolishAndYetFragant · 04/11/2020 17:15

@FloraMacDonald The Penhaligons lily perfume is lovely in a very floral, elegant older lady kind of way Smile I love the scent of lillies and it's a trifle annoying that I can't have the flowers in my house because of the cat!

Kali the opening of Velvet Cherry is very ...errr... monster isn't it Grin I love the drydown though and especially the way it lingers on clothing - for days! (obviously on things you wear for more than one wash/day, I'm talking scarves not knickers Grin)
Sadly though I can't get past the monster bit, shame as the longevity is so amazing.

SOTD Sisley Eau du Soir (finally got my Winter perfumes out!) I love this so much. Woody and spicy and elegant. It makes me feel like a grown up Grin Longevity on this also outstanding.

Feels strange that it will be Bonfire Night tomorrow. I usually love that smell of cold misty air and lingering smoke on the morning after.

FloofyFoolishAndYetFragant · 04/11/2020 17:17

Today I wore a scarf and gloves and a woolly hat for the first time this Autumn...

FloofyFoolishAndYetFragant · 04/11/2020 17:24

FFS forgot the important bit Blush Penhaligon's sale looks awesome...(Lily of the Valley perfume is actually £55 instead of £110...)

Shrillharridan · 04/11/2020 17:25

I stayed up till 4am watching US poll results.
So I'm in a GREAT mood!
Sotd pp by the fireplace
I got my 4160 mrsgloss indoors today...except it doesn't smell the same?
Hmmm
I'm very tired 😫

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/11/2020 18:40

SOTD Diptyque Eau Duelle.

1frenchfoodie · 04/11/2020 18:45

Eau de soir sounds nice Floofy , not sure I own anything that makes me feel sophisticated.

SOTD is DS&Durga Cowboy grass, all dry woody herbs and dusty grasslands with a whiff of smoke. I liked it in the hot end of summer but I love it today, plus it still smells delicious 10h after first spray.

FloraMacDonald · 04/11/2020 21:01

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've ordered an engraved bottle of Penhaligons lily of the valley, and will also order some Bronnly lemon soaps, which she used to love. I think they've changed a fair amount since I last bought them for her, but I think the memory will make her smile if nothing else.
Amazing suggestions everyone!
Floofy I'm impressed you knew where your winter things were so early in the season. I scraped the ice off my car with my m&s sparks card this morning.....

Shrillharridan · 05/11/2020 17:31

We are firing up the fire pit so sote is obv by the fireplace :)

teta · 06/11/2020 09:39

Sotd is Nerolia Bianco by Guerlain. I needed an olfactory pick up this morning and this is bright, sharp and invigorating. I might add a spray of Une Rose later as i showered in rose gel and I love the combination of the two scents.

@Floofy eau de soir is too grown up for me, so I bow down to you. I really want to love it but it just doesn't work on me.

@Flora The Penhaligon's Lily of the valley is absolutely beautiful and the perfect present. I used to have it several years ago.

SOTD is Byredo Rose Noir, deep, dark and wintery! Wish it wasn't so expensive though! Swapping between that and Glossier's YOU, which is incredible!

And I'm burning the Fireside candle from Noble Isle because it smells festive and cosy! www.nobleisle.com/catalog/products/fireside-fine-fragrance-candle/

Shrillharridan · 06/11/2020 09:57

Sotd rochas femme
Gorgeous
Maybe too ladylike for me?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/11/2020 11:09

SOTD L'Air de Rien. Yesterday was MMM Jazz Club. God, I am so glad it's FRIDAY!

FloraMacDonald · 06/11/2020 12:18

My Nose & Tauer samples have all arrived. I'm loving the ones I've tried so far, apart from l'Air des Alpes Suisse, which makes me feel a bit queasy, like Orange Star. Is it the amber? Whatever it is, it's horrible.
I need a new candle.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 07/11/2020 10:20

Morning! Thank you for the recommendation to try out Nose. My samples arrived yesterday.

So far I have tried
Diptyque Eau Duelle- I found the vanilla overpowering. I think it selected this for me as a put in that I like Shalimar, however I think Shalimar is more balanced and itsnt dominated by the vanilla like this is. www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Diptyque/Eau-Duelle-Eau-de-Parfum-49100.html

Roos Roos Mentha Religiosa- I really liked this on initial spray, however on the dry down all I can smell is iris which is quite overpowering. I am not an iris fan, and its far more overpowering than I thought it would be. www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Roos-Roos/Mentha-Religiosa-37601.html

Will keep you guys updated as I try more!

Benjispruce2 · 07/11/2020 10:58

Sotd Eau Dynamisante

teta · 07/11/2020 11:25

The Nose samples sound like fun @Forsale. I had totally forgotten about Nose. I think we all went thru' a phase of ordering from there a few years ago. My suspicion is those recommendations are somewhat biased to recommend particular perfumes . I inputted my current choices several times and seemed to receive lots of floral vanillary things which really aren't my thing at all. Absolutely no Chypres & greens which are my thing. That saying, the samples are very well priced and this is fun to do if you're trying to find your way thru' the perfume maze.
Sotd is last night's Drole d Rose.
I've just ordered several Amouage samples from a lovely lady on a Facebook perfume site. I'm really looking forward to trying them. It's one brand I don't trust on eBay, as it's so copied.

Sotd rochas femme again
Its lovely but honestly? I prefer avon timeless for an ambery chypre.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 07/11/2020 17:47

@teta I think we are similar. What are some of your favourite every day scents that aren't floral or vanilla?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/11/2020 20:57

SOTD Chanel 19 Poudre.

flora I loathe Orange Star too, bleurgh.

QueenPaws · 07/11/2020 20:59

SOTD - ELDO eau de protection
Candle - wytch (cedar, smoke, rosemary, labdanum)

teta · 08/11/2020 08:45

@Forsale I like Cristalle EDP, private collection white moss & Jasmine, the original private collection, Wrappings & Antonia by PureDistance. They are all green but a floral green and not cloying at all. Great Chypres are Apercu which is discontinued but can be bought on on buy, Chypre Siam and Aedes De venustas ( modern chypre).

@MissBattleaxe your absolutely stunning box has arrived. Thank you so much. I'm savoring the samples slowly. I think my favourite so far is the Verveine. I'm really enjoying the crisp aromatic greens in this, with the mossy note. I'm definitely up for a new Verveine perfume after the disappointment of the Heeley's Verveine d'eugenie.

Happy Sunday Perfumistas!

yes shrill also knackered from late night CNN watching here! Strange times, normally the news would have thrilled me and I would be celebrating but all I feel at the moment is a bit of, well just relief really. I am (doom and gloom alert!) thinking that the next few weeks/months will bring some serious civil unrest, here as well as in the US. I feel we are at a bit of a tipping point and the only thing that might stop it all kicking off is peoples' apathy...

My own apathy has extended to perfume, after going on and on at DH to go in the loft for my winter perfume box, now that he has done it, all I have worn Blush is Eau du Soir and No. 19 (my quintessential can't be arsed to make a proper choice perfume).

I think if we get some proper cold and frosty weather I might muster up some enthusiasm. I saw I have the PP dupe for the Jo Malone nutmeg and ginger mentioned here earlier (no recollection of buying this and if I had smelt the original!)

Gosh that is such a gloomy post. Deary me. I might do some baking. It's a cake day, for sure.

Are there still some perfumistas MIA? (The rest of MN seems to be full of grumpy angry people being dicks to each other and I think it's putting people off MN). I am going to stick to S & B I think, oh and The Litter Tray and FWR, of course.

teta · 08/11/2020 11:45

@Floofy I didn't know Pp do a version of Nutmeg & Ginger. So thanks for saying ...
I've just ordered from Pp for the first time. What's best - oils or spray?
