@onenighttimemenacestrikesback

No size declaration needed 😁 your style sounds wonderful. If you pretend to send the pic to someone via Facebook messenger, then click edit, you can cover your face with smilies. Whatever you're comfortable with though 😊

Don't think I've posted my dress pic today 💀

Welcome @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack Smile!

Can't wait to see the DMs! I love them too! I love the sound of your style and except for the fact that all I seem to do at the moment is country walks, I'd love to emulate a similar style! I'm always in sensible jeans at the mo. Will have to branch out.

Here I am in the same floaty top as the other day, 16, from Tu, navy jeggings, XL, Uniqlo. Excuse the blurry photo! Not sure what happened there.

Definitely no size declaration required!

I tend to include sizes with my outfits, for a few reasons.

I find it helpful when I'm looking at the outfits on here, to know what the sizes and shapes are, as if they're similar to my own, I have a good idea these outfits will suit me too. Also, if I buy a dress and need to size up, that's useful for anyone buying similar, as they might need a bigger size too.

WARNING: RANT AND ENORMOUS MANIFESTO ENSUES! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO IGNORE Grin

Also, because I hate size shaming. There is a lot on MN, which is why I do think this thread is needed.

So, I like to say it. It isn't that I'm normalising being overweight or glorifying obesity blah blah. Just saying that I am this size and I can still try to look nice.

Size is so temporary as well. People change size all the damn time, so if you put all your stock in being a size 6 or a size 26, well, that can change, even if you don't mean for it to. Which is why all sizes are welcome here, but the fashion discussed will be plus size / inclusive, meaning we discuss having to dress shapes and sizes which are not always straightforward. That doesn't mean dressing to hide our "problem" bodies. Some people choose to wear what flatters them, but others just want to look cool and be comfortable. Plus size doesn't mean you have to get tonnes of shapewear, show off shapely curves, hide all wobbles, unless you are comfortable like that and love wearing it. I might wear short shorts in the summer and big sack like dresses from Cos, not because they are flattering, (or, dare I say, slimming), but because I like them. They are stylish and I'm comfortable in them.

Anyway, the craic here is always good, so I'm staying put Grin.

I think you are my people!

I wfh and dont always put myself together for it but I have been moreso recently and am trying not to backslide as it improves my mood and outlook. So I may not post pics very often (also have a tricky mirror situation!) but I've enjoyed the chat in here so count me in Smile

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 08:29

Welcome @fizzysister Smile!

I too have mirror issues, hence the loo! The day I don't post one standing on my loo, you know I've gone through it 😬! Send help Grin.

I am looking for new DMs, so am very interested in suggestions. I don´t want the classic ones, but want ones with max 6 eyelets as any more are not good on my legs (they showcase my enormous calves if they come higher!). I was planning on taking a trip up to Belfast to look in the DM shop at Christmas, but now I don´t know if I will be able to make it to NI after all. Fingers crossed that quarantine restrictions are removed by then!

I agree with you, Jessica, about hating the size shaming on MN. I am a size 20, have been for most of my adult life, and I don´t hate my body. I am not kidding myself. I really don´t hate it. It was a bit of a revelation to me when I first started posting on MN that not hating my body was a bad thing! Grin Bodies are complexed and linked to so many factors, and the thing is be thankful for what you have got and enjoy it as much as you can. None of us know when it will be gone. So my motto is dress in things you love and be proud of yourself. If anyone objects to this thread (I haven´t read that anywhere, so I don´t know if posters have commented), then they can fuck off, quite frankly.

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 08:58

Oh no @sonjadog, they haven't commented on here, thankfully! But I have seen some awful threads in the past, saying how anyone liking / celebrating / not hating, their bigger body is glorifying obesity and... you know the rest! So, my rant was more about those sorts of threads, not that they've been on here.

StCharlotte · 20/09/2020 09:55

Well said @JessicaTheJellyfish and @sonjadog.

I'm sure many of us would like to wake up tomorrow 5ft 10 and a size 10 but genetics etc. and life get in the way.

I'm five foot five. I've been consistently a size 20 all my adult life, so decades. It's obviously my "fighting weight". Even my doctor acknowledges it. I love what I am not what the media, particularly social media, says I should be.

Way back in the mists of time when I was a teenager I was a size 14/16 and all there was was "Evans Outsize" as it was charmingly called then. I was invited to a party and off I went with my lovely hair, my lovely face, my great legs and my sunny disposition in a pretty floral dress. I didn't know I was meant to wear a nasty black polyester jumpsuit with a dangerously flammable matching jacket which was the thing back then. I spent the whole night being cowed and humiliated by the immature lads with no back-up from the sisterhood and, worse, every one was staying over and I couldn't even get home. It was one of the worst nights of my young life and I just sobbed for the whole day when I got home.

Did I throw myself into black widows weeds for the rest of my life? No I bloody didn't. On the contrary, I found my resolve and thankfully retailers started realising that "big girls" also have spending power so started introducing much nicer plus size ranges. So I wear clothes that I love and let my personality to the talking. I am complimented a lot on my clothes so I must be doing something right.

THIS IS ME!!

Ooh that felt good Grin

Disclaimer: of course I spent a lot of my 20s in black thinking I looked French but don't we all?

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 10:16

Aw no @StCharlotte Sad.

Yes, I was a large teenager and boys were often total arseholes about it! I do think that probably still happens, but hopefully not so much. I see a lot of bigger teenaged girls walking around and they all look really confident. In the nineties, slim was a must in my circles. Fashion catering for bigger sizes helps too. It means we can dress better, so feel better and look more comfortable and probably attract a lot less negative attention as a result. I hope that's the case for teens etc too.

Funnily enough I was slimmer as an adult than I was as a kid. I'm probably about the same size now as I was when I was 15 Wink. But that size was considered pretty monstrous when I was a teenager. Pfft though. At least I care a lot less what people think now!

I have to say I also remember the teenaged boys who were always nice to me when I was a fat teen. They weren't all bad, so that has stayed with me too, even more so possibly Smile.

Oh you all look so fab in your pinafore dresses, I would really love one. My boobs are so humongous though and tend to carry most of my weight on my stomach am I kidding myself that I could carry one off? I love this thread, come just at the right time while I'm simultaneously trying to lose some weight for health reasons but also trying to embrace my body and let go of the shame. I've had all my hair cut off and am trying to look a bit more 'put together' each day instead of rocking up on school run like I just rolled out of bed! It's working, so many comments about how good my hair looks how glam I look (really don't, must be the contrast!) think what they seeing is me feeling better about myself.

sonjadog · 20/09/2020 11:25

I think any size can wear a pinafore. But I find that I usually have to size up, sometimes even two sizes. Try one and see!

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 11:34

Welcome @Queenelsarules Smile!

I am large of boob and tummy. The pjnagore I've just bought is good for my shape I think, as it goes out in the skirt and has a nice belt, which falls in the right place on me. I also sized up. I used to have a lovely one from New Look in soft denim, but it no longer fits. sonja was wearing a New Look one a while ago which was also lovely.

DottyDotAgain · 20/09/2020 11:45

I think one of the joys of being in my 50's is that I've let so much of my embarrassment go at my size. My Mum is teeny tiny and was horrified when I started to grow upwards and outwards as a teenager - she sent me to WW when I was ??17 because I was a size 14 and in her eyes, that was the beginning of the end...

I quickly became a size 16 - 18 and have hovered between an 18 - 22 my whole adult life. I'm heavier than I've ever been at the moment and am trying to lose a couple of stone to be more healthy, but other than that, I don't care!

I'm 5'8" with size 10 feet, so figure I'm just destined to be big all over!

Slouchy clothes day today. Top from Asda and jeans from Evans!

ChequerBoard · 20/09/2020 13:08

Yes to the pinafore dress love! I've just bought this black one from Simply Be ready for autumn. It's actually really nicely shaped around the bust for bigger boobs.

I am planning on wearing it with this polka dot long sleeved top from EMP. I love these tops, great empire line shape that is very flattering. I'm blaming this thread and you in particular @LivingDeadGirlUK for my new addiction to the EMP site!

Ooooh I like that top!! Swore I wouldn't buy any new clothes until payday though..! Blush

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/09/2020 16:33

Apologies to everyone that now has an EMP habit :P It was actually my partner who introduced me to them, he suddenly started looking really cool and at first I was concerned about an affair but turns out he had just discovered EMP :P

Deathraystare · 20/09/2020 17:44

As mentioned in the lipstick of the day post, I was not planning on going anywhere but realised work were trying to contact me so had to frantically draw on some eyebrows and later on at work put on a lip[stick but as I had only planned to do my laundry today I am in a pink t shirt from Primarni and some thin ribbed leggings but then I normally wear this sort of thing for work as well, so not stylish but nobody will keel over with shick. Mind you, I haven't brushed my hair!!

Deathraystare · 20/09/2020 17:44

Shick? Shock obvs!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/09/2020 17:45

So today is Blue wide leg jeans from next sz 16 and a striped square neck top from john lewis which I think is a 14.

I went to the shops today and got a bit carried away in cancer research Blush basically bought them out of black and striped tops!

Welcome @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack.

@JessicaTheJellyfish I couldn't agree more with you rant! You have put it exactly right. Who cares as long as you like it. I could wear a crop top and denim shorts with my bum hanging out if I felt like it. Or a sack. As long as I like it that's all that matters- clothes are bits of cloth you put on your body!

I like looking nice- it's fun. But it's my version of nice! We are so beautiful on this thread, and so much more creative in what we wear

@Queenelsarules I have massive boobs too- a 32H. It's hard to find clothes that fit! Maybe we both need to let go of the 'can I pull it off' thing and just decide that if we like them we should wear them. I'm going to get some Lucy and Yaks I think. And a red pinny like Jessica's!

@ChequerBoard I LOVE that black number! It would look amazing at Christmas. I look a bit shit in black- drains the colour from me.

Lipstick of the day?! What fresh wonder is this?! I am in MAC Relentlessly Red today. to look...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/09/2020 18:40

Im not sure who posted it but i LOVE that leopard print pinny dress, i might og looking for one though my nearest sainsburys doesnt have a big selection, might have to ask for a lift to the bigger one, hmmmmmmm.

thank you all for the warm welcome, i wish i could say im stylish today but im really not, im in pink my little pony pj bottoms and a black and red BabyMetal band t-shirt. I feel like ive got flu becaus eive over done it the last few days (im severely disabled with multiple health issues for context)

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 18:42

@Peachypips78, I bloody love L&Ys! So tempted to get some more, but I might ask for them as a Christmas present. I am eyeing up a pair of their cord ones in Berry 😍. Thank you as well for the rant love Grin.

I'm also in the market for some black boots, but again, may wait till Christmas.

Can I join in? I’m a 16-18 but at nearly 6ft tall, people tend to accuse me of lying about that Hmm
I recently (before the drama) had a shape and colour analysis by SBS, and I’ve got to say, it’s done wonders for me. Tiny little adjustments I never would’ve thought to have made which make an outfit look totally different and much more flattering to my shape.
Looking forward to participating on this thread, I LOVE seeing what other people are wearing!

JessicaTheJellyfish · 20/09/2020 19:17

Yes of course! Welcome @Littlemissamy Smile.

I nearly did a personal shop with SBS, before the drama too, but decided against it in the end. I'm not on SM, so I only know vaguely what's gone on there. Glad it worked for you though.
