Thanks @Ellapaella it’s currently out of stock but just in case it comes back I’d like to make some sort of guess whether it’s worth trying a small.

I have the Kantha @DameCelia, a long and the jacket. I’ve got much more wear out of the jacket, I’ve worn it out quite a few times this year and also would pull it on in bed if it cold and I’m sitting up reading.
The long one is not long enough for me as a dressing gown I like dressing gowns to be full length, it’s handy for travel to pull on and folds flatter than you’d expect. Can also be used as an extra layer under a thin biggish coat. In my opinion they don’t reverse.

Craftycorvid · 14/09/2020 08:10

Nila Rubia do lovely Kantha coats and robes - not sure how they’d compare to Toast price wise though.

Ah, got outbid on the OAS pinafore. Once things on eBay start climbing towards ‘could have bought it new’ prices, I give in.

luggageandbags · 14/09/2020 09:28

@DameCelia I don’t have a Kantha but they do look heavy and stiff for around the house. I’d wear them as coats.

I do have a Toast robe in lovely soft flannel lined with cotton, I couldn’t wait for colder mornings so I can wear it again. It’s not super thick but for me it’s just right, I wouldn’t want something too bulky.

My sweater (going back shortly) in size S measures 61 cm from armpit to armpit. So not much smaller than the size M. Hope this helps.

Countmeout · 14/09/2020 10:45

Thank you @Gonegrey31. That definitely means it just too big full stop. Not much difference at all. How disappointing as I like the weight of it and the yoke.

@DameCelia and @luggageandbags definitely not stiff, really quite soft.

StyleandBeautyfail · 14/09/2020 11:04

The sizing issue is why I would really like garment measurements for each item instead of the sizing survey.
We might all have a different idea of what sort of ease we want from a particular garment.
Ease can be negative/ positive or nil depending on the look you are going for.

In the case of the S - sweater its 122cm / 48 inches.
For a sweater like that I would want between 4-6 inches of positive ease.
Its not particularly heavy.
Im a 32 bust so a 48 is 12 inches positive ease.
When you are buying items and paying postage I dont think its too much to ask for garments measurements.
I will email with that suggestion and also ask for regular/ tall trouser lengths Smile

Countmeout · 14/09/2020 12:00

I think though there’s even maybe individual differences in garments. I imagine the yoked jumper varies a great deal in size within the size bands which is where you are very fortunate if you can go to a Toast shop.
I think they need to do two lengths in trouser @StyleandBeautyfail . This years Gabi trousers fit me perfectly, last years or was it the year before are short even on me.

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2020 13:05

@StyleandBeautyfail, I'd not heard of The Assembly Line. Thanks.

I already have a cross back apron, but theirs has buttons at the back, which makes it a bit less aprony.

Laska2Meryls · 14/09/2020 21:19

Toast shop in York ..I may have to go back tomorrow as just popped in..
The rust jumper and dress combo is fab!!

I like the belt.

Dottty · 14/09/2020 21:57

@Laska2Meryls

Amethyst returns are annoying, but Toast is too expensive for me to keep anything which isn't perfect...

Btw talking about that, I do have one exception.. Has anyone else had a problem with seams coming undone on the Alix trousers? (I see that someone mentioned it in the reviews.. and mine did exactly the same.. ) However as they were JL bargains and I wouldn't be able to replace them , I have mended them myself, but really not good enough.. only worn once and the cotton broke in several places in the inner back seam.. ( they are plenty big enough / baggy on me even so it wasn't that it was that they were over stretched)

Yes this has happened to me in the same seam. I have not repaired it yet but very disappointing
MotherofPearl · 14/09/2020 22:19

Nice photos Laksa. I have that rust jumper on my current wish list.

Countmeout · 15/09/2020 08:26

Thanks for those @Laska2Meryls. Yes that dress and jumper look nice on the website too.

Spottyegg · 15/09/2020 12:24

eBay is my friend at the moment - have bought a blue check Anja blouse, bright blue Oxford shirt dress, black skirt and a blue striped cotton swingy dress. All good so far!

MikeUniformMike · 15/09/2020 13:13

The belt only has a brass effect buckle. Gone off it now.

I would expect them to be fairly standard even if hand knitted. A friend of mine knitted for an upmarket brand and the guidelines were strict regarding sizing/ yardage. I bit the bullet and trecked off to my nearest Toast shop to try on trousers. Tried on Gabi cotton and Alix wool check. Gabi did absolutely nothing for me at all looked lumpen to say the least and way too short as expected. Alix were nice but my head was turned by the cotton/ cashmere gingham dress and culottes in the same fabric. Slightly worried I would look like I had escaped from Little House on the Prairie but the dress was lovely. So soft and a lovely fit in M lets ignore the price Culottes in a 12 were perfect, looked a stone lighter than in the Gabi and lovely length. I cant see them on the website though? I did admire the nightwear but made do with a new chemise from Cyberjammies and new slippers from JL.

I had a good look around JL haberdashery and got some lovely 4oz dark denim for £10/M to try out the AL cuff dress.
£27 plus elastic and thread.

DameCelia · 15/09/2020 17:20

Thank you for all the advice on the Kantha robe, I have decided against it. @luggageandbags is your robe current Toast stock? There's a robe in grey/pink on the website but it doesn't sound like it is lined with flannel from the description.

Laska2Meryls · 15/09/2020 17:35

I went back to Toast in York and bought this. Its a L as all they had and summer stock. and horribly expensive for supposedly a nightie , but I am going to wear it as a dress....just love the print and fabric..
Tried on the checked shirtdress ...really lovely but sadly not that flattering for those with norkage, I think...

MikeUniformMike · 15/09/2020 18:55

@StyleandBeautyfail, that sounds good. The cuff dress looks nice but I expect it would look a lot better on you than on me. I already have three denim dresses (pinafore/'artist smock' long tunic/shirtdress) but 4 oz denim sounds lovely. I don't get on with modal, viscose, tencel or chambray.

My dressmaker used my apron (it's not Toast, but it's similar and lightweight denim) to create one for herself but she modified it rather than copy it, so I might get another one. Smile She tends to get requests from her younger family members for the things she makes me, so my taste can't be too frumpy

luggageandbags · 15/09/2020 20:22

@DameCelia this is mine, it’s from last winter’s collection.

Toast the fourth!
luggageandbags · 15/09/2020 20:36

In other news, my crinkle cotton check dress has arrived and sadly it shall be going back. It’s so comfortable and beautifully made with soft gauzy gingham lining but it makes me look huge. I’m size 10.
I keep putting it back on desperately trying to make it work but it’s not happening.

I would love to have thick warm and comfy dress for winter, most of the offering at the moment is viscose and I know that won’t keep me warm.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/09/2020 21:54

How does it make you look huge @luggageandbags. I think it looks brilliant on it. I vote keep!

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 15/09/2020 21:55

Really nice @Laska2Meryls. Definitely get away with it as a dress. It looks really like my Kin one.

Saurus72 · 15/09/2020 22:08

@luggageandbags I get that you may not like that dress but in NO WAY do you look huge!
