I’ve been known to do a city break to go to a shop.

Surely one of the most beautiful sentences I've ever read anywhere.

Sorry, gatecrasher here. I love Toast more in theory than in practice (same with Margaret Howell) but waste an inordinate amount of time on their website. And have a weird obsession with the upper floor of the Oxford shop.

Very impressed with the Autumn collection - best for ages. Though I long for the days when I wanted all their bedlinen and pyjamas. I have one of their linen and cotton duvet covers from years ago, but the colours are much more drab now.

Hope there's a Premier Inn in York ...Wink

@mizu, It is quite likely that the bidder had bid way more than they won it for. I usually bid the absolute max I'd pay if it's a late night auction. I once won something I bid £65+ on something but got it for about £21.

I have a newlyn smock that is quite similar to the MH smock. It was much cheaper but looks good.

Thank you for the welcome @Moominmammaatsea and @Laska2Meryls. I also love York - I live about an hours train journey away and go at least once a year purely to shop with friends, often staying over and yes there is definitely a premier inn! Grin
Noa Noa (my other favourite) also have a shop in York. It's a beautiful city and well worth a visit. I have to confess I haven't been to the Toast shop yet - it's definitely on my list if I make it to York this year.

Edinburgh toast store is lovely, in Stockbridge nearly next to Aesop’s and some great independent shops, round the corner from 2 independent book shops.

Has anyone tried the Baltic linen waffle towels?

I’ve got two linen slub jumpers from last summer’s sale (or the one before, I forget) I love them.

moomin, curses, I'd not heard of Margaret Howell, and since you mentioned it I have spent ages trawling the website, and am getting obsessed! Between Toast and MH I'm going to bankrupt myself if I'm not careful. Any advice about MH sizing? Is the fit generous as a lot of Toast stuff is, or not?

Has anyone tried Beaumont Organics? I've tried to like the clothes on the website but I don't.

I find MH sizing extremely generous. (I'm not an XS anywhere else!)

They have the most wonderful fabrics - but the predominantly boxy cuts are frustratingly wrong on me - though they look lovely on other people. So I mostly stick to the peripheral things that don't depend on cut.

Email from a Toast, 15% off
Not really good enough for me I’m afraid
I prefer minimum 40%
My basket is over £500 at the moment...I can wait

I've always been curious about Toast's financial forecasting. From the scrum at the start of their online sales I can't imagine any significant proportion of customers buy at full price. So I wonder if the original prices bear any relation at all to the value of an item - or if the sale price is the one they rely on in decision making.

I never get those discount emails.. not sure why, perhaps its because I pretty much only buy in sales or with mention me codes ..

Report
ilovecherries · 08/09/2020 12:27

I didn’t get a code! I’d buy for 15%.

anon444877 · 08/09/2020 12:39

Some things don’t ever go into the sale - the plain and recycled cashmere jumpers I’ve been stalking, homewards for the quilts etc, and the pyjamas I want often sell out before it gets to sale time.

No 15 percent off here either

Me too @ilovecherries.
I plunged and bought the oatmeal yoked jumper yesterday as it was and has gone out of stock again. I’ve given up on an orange jumper- John Lewis one too fluro . And I think I’ll get more wear out of the oatmeal rather than the lovely striped one. But I still have a few things on my wish list.
The mid season sale was about September 24 or so last year. I looked it up.

Delurking to say hello to the Toast appreciation society.
My DP jokes that I'm on the mission to visit every Toast in the country. So far have covered South, West, East and Wales, yet to venture York way. Have to say the MH outlet is a massive draw. I have popped into the London one several times but it had very small selection and I walked empty handed each time.

Like a PP I covet a lot of the stuff from the catalogue but not everything works for me. I don't always manage to transition the pieces from the arty looking country dwelling passing my time in my pottery studio type, I just look boring and overwhelmed by the clothes. But I try. I have just ordered the crinkly cotton check dress, they only had one left in my size and I lost nerve waiting for a discount code. Or the sale. Things I want the most never get to sale anyway.

I didn’t get a code, just an email
The items in my basket have been reduced automatically
I’m still not buying yet though

Gah I only got the promotional emails this week but no offer.
I wonder how they filter people for offers... I send for things from Toast about once a month, I wonder if that's not enough to qualify me? Or they don't feel they need to tempt me?

No offer code for me either. Just confirmation of my post pass ( free standard delivery and returns). Come on Toast, add us all to the discount list !

Moominmammaatsea · 08/09/2020 16:33

@Nanasueathome, I’m so spoiled by the JL 70% discount (and a thrifty Yorkshire lass too) that I wouldn’t even budge for 40 per cent off!

Report
Nanasueathome · 08/09/2020 17:02

Oh, 40% is my limit for something I couldn’t live without
I also love the 70% discounts
I had a dress from JL reduced from £175 to £52
Myself and my daughter both have JL Partnership credit cards and they reward you with gift vouchers every 3 months, depending on your spend
We both had £15
Put the 2 together and the dress cost me £22
Not bad for a £175 original purchase price

I do shop at Toast online and also their Cheltenham store
I like to spread it around for the best offers

No offer code for me either. Have added a dress to my basket in case that triggers a code. Going to Cambridge store tomorrow to try on some dresses IRL as utterly exhausted by so many returns. Looking for denim shirt dress ahead of holiday in Northumberland from Thursday, think will be good for beach walks with my Allbirds 😊

Has anyone used the new “Toast Circle “ scheme? It’s described on the Toast website - you bring old Toast clothes into certain of their stores and are given a token to be used towards the acquisition of new items ( sounds like a swap shop). I have a couple of old favourites, a linen coat and a long silk evening skirt, both now hardly ever worn. Quite tempted to try out the scheme.

No discount for me either despite purchasing a lot of Toast in the last year. I wonder how people qualify?
The Toast circle looks very interesting, I would like to try it but don’t live near any of the stores.

mizu · 08/09/2020 18:59

I'd love to try the TOAST circle thing too but alas my local TOAST isn't on the list.

@Saurus72, whereabouts in Northumberland are you heading? Happy to PM you with suggestions of beaches far from the madding crowd!
