@MikeUniformMike

I was thinking of the price of the Toast dresses and although the price seems eye watering I was thinking what it would cost to make. If you add up the price of fabric (£24 per metre x 2.5 or something), £14.50 for the pattern, a few £ for interfacing and thread, and paying a dressmaker, it really isn't that much, when you consider that they are classic styles that should last years.

** I based pricing on a toasty style dressmaking fabric and pattern seller.

Totally agree with this. I make my own clothes , like nice fabric and it comes in at £25 ish per metre. I usually need 2.7 m depending on the width of the fabric so that c £75 when you add in thread. I think they are very well priced and Im delighted to find nice long dresses. I really like the cotton Gabi trousers but they would be below the knee on me Grin Could anyone recommend a similar shape/ brand but longer? Would like cotton twill/ wool winter fabric and budget about the same so under £100
Hopefully they will listen to the reviews as anyone over 5 ft 5 found them cropped too short .
Countmeout · 12/09/2020 15:24

Well @Gonegrey31was right. The yoked jumper is unbelievably square and and enormous. I could get a (not so) small child in the back of it . The neck is very wide too. Looks better in my photo from the front than in reality. Can’t wait to see if it works for anyone else. I’m not sure whether to try a small if it becomes available or if it would just be small and square.

Craftycorvid · 12/09/2020 15:34

I think the jumper looks good a little over-sized Countmeout but also you are small and slim so I can imagine it’s easy to feel swamped. I also take the point about going a size down - it’s a boxy shape, isn’t it?

anon444877 · 12/09/2020 15:39

Yes no question that Brora wears well, I’ve got several items exceeding 10 years but it is more expensive, and toast has lovely colours so I do like both. The looser knits for any cashmere/cashmere mix never age well.

Ellapaella · 12/09/2020 17:53

@Countmeout I have that jumper too and love it, I think it looks great on you. Here's mine: I got the small (I'm a size 10) excuse the trousers (they need a good iron!)

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 12/09/2020 18:22

Think it looks great on you, Countmeout - very slouchy and sophisticated. Also fabulous on Ellapaella. I can't wear anything that emphasises shoulders; mine are quite prominent enough already.

StyleandBeautyfail this is not what you asked for, being over budget and probably the wrong shapes ... however, it might be worth taking a look at this brand. Totally wonderful clothes - but trousers and skirts clearly intended for someone twice my height. I make do with the luscious knitwear at sale time.

Laska2Meryls · 12/09/2020 18:29

Countmeout I think it looks fab on you , but if it feels too big then you wont wear it ..
ellapaella I just love it on you , especially with those trousers and boots
. I have the M coming , hopefully it wont be too big on me, I do have a bigger frame than you and a fine pair of rugby players shoulders!!

Laska2Meryls · 12/09/2020 18:31

I think Toast is coming up big this season though. I have sized down in Francis tees and Gabi trousers so far.. The Francis tees are definitely much bigger than last winter

faustina · 12/09/2020 18:37

@Countmeout and @Ellapaella - that jumper looks amazing on both of you- I'm really excited now about mine which is being delivered on Monday (ordered a medium because no small and then small suddenly reappeared so they're both arriving)

@Laska2Meryls - exactly the same thing happened with my Alix trousers - same place too. How odd!

Ellapaella · 12/09/2020 18:39

The knitwear is quite unpredictable - @Laska2Meryls the broken stripe jumper we both have is actually quite small and neat I thought, I was quite surprised.

faustina · 12/09/2020 18:41

@StyleandBeautyfail - have you had a look at the Uniqlo U Christophe Lemaire collaboration? The Gabi are perfect for me as I'm only 5'4 but the Uniqlo U trousers which have some interesting shapes all seem to have been cut for very tall people. The new styles are out in a week or two - it should say on the website

Ellapaella · 12/09/2020 18:42

@Countmeout I meant to add I love the Toast jacket hanging up in the background - beautiful.

slipperyeel · 12/09/2020 18:53

I’ve had to contact customer services today, one of my Bea nightdresses has developed holes after just one wash. We’ll see what they come back with, I am a huge fan but not what I expect for £85.

MikeUniformMike · 12/09/2020 18:59

You both look stylish, @Countmeou @Countmeout
@StyleandBeautyfail, my 2.5 m was a little optimistic, I tend to buy wide fabric. The fabric retailer I was thinking of was merchant & mills.

&Daughter is a bit Toasty but not cheap.

Countmeout · 12/09/2020 19:02

Thanks @Ellapaella.
The jumper does feel too big- it’s the amount of it at the back which you cants see so I’m going to return it and nab a small to try I think if one reappears. I don’t want the navy version as I don’t wear navy close to my face,
I do think things are a bit big at the moment. My daughter thought my mauve shirt was big in the back too, I know they’re meant to be oversized but there’s a fine line between oversized and too big.
In defence of the jumper what I do like is how it is so light it doesn’t feel as if you’re wearing it which is a big plus.
Look forward to seeing both on you @faustina.
@Ellapaella if you don’t mind could you measure the small pit to pit please?
I actually went upstairs again after posting to check they hadn’t sent a large 😕 it’s 63cm from pit to pit. I’m going to try it on again tomorrow with a few other things, obvs had just pulled it on when it came. But it’s H-U-G-E.....

Countmeout · 12/09/2020 19:07

Oh @Laska2Meryls forgot to say my Alix trousers (also JL buy) are ok but mine are black. I’ve worn then a lot. I wonder if it is a particular colour had problems

Thanks Persephone I love the dresses but those barrel shaped trousers are not for me ! @MikeUniformMike yes M&M Love everything , I have to try to be good as Ive got plenty of fabric to be going on with. I may resort to making trousers though. They do have some lovely winter weight fabrics. I can highly recommend The Assembly Line patterns .Bit pricey with postage but I tend to carry on making if I find a style I like. Will have another look at Uniqlo @faustina Website does my head in though. I am tall and I do love a culotte. The short slim crops make me look like a toddler whos had a sudden growth spurt 😂
I would also like the option to turn up.
Ellapaella · 12/09/2020 20:23

@Countmeout I am currently on holiday in Scotland but as soon as I get home next week I will certainly measure for you, no problem

Craftycorvid · 12/09/2020 20:46

Loving those boots, Ellapaella 😍

Ellapaella · 12/09/2020 20:53

Thanks Crafty - DM's in cherry red

Laska2Meryls · 13/09/2020 07:10

Faustina it must be a duff thread batch then, the threads were all broken in small sections. Ruddy annoying and if they hadn't been JL they'd have definitely gone back.. Did you mend yours or send back?
I have them in black also, but haven't worn them yet.
Ella yes I bought a L in that broken striped jumper.. It is neat, bit so soft and lovely .. Im taking it camping to Northumberland this week!

faustina · 13/09/2020 07:39

@Laska2Meryls - I didn't do anything - still wearing them!

DameCelia · 13/09/2020 22:51

Hello All
Kantha robes, does anyone have one? I desperately need to replace my 10 year old IKEA white (once upon a time) towelling bathrobe. I fancy a 'forever' robe, let's face it, I got 10 years out of the IKEA one, a Toast one should see me out!
If you do, do you wear it as a dressing gown? Or as a coat? The website seems a bit vague!

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 14/09/2020 00:35

I don't have one DameCelia - but I tend to loiter around them in the store. (In Oxford they're upstairs with nightwear; or at least, they were at the start of this year.) To my mind they're just a little too elaborate for average dressing gown duty but would be rather cool as a glamorous housecoat for entertaining on a Hebridean island. (As I don't currently have that sort of lifestyle I haven't found room for one in my wardrobe.)

I haven't been able to convince any of my usual guinea pigs to try wearing one as a coat - but I'm sure one could.

DameCelia · 14/09/2020 07:24

Thank you @PersephonePromotesEquanimity, I need to go into my nearest store and have a proper look. I see myself wafting around the house looking decorative, neatly forgetting that the fens are v cold, the cats will probably try to climb it, the neighbours would think I'd finished going mad and the children would ask why I'm in fancy dress.
