You can see more styling from Graham St. on the TOAST Magazine. Hannah and Sue have visited Borough Market situated on the south side of the river, just by London Bridge; York home to one of our TOAST shops, and the beautiful, Thameside town of Richmond.
It was a really useful and interesting event and I write as someone now slightly jaded by too many improving Zoominars!
Also online was Nikki Sher, the head buyer for Toast, who, interestingly, is 5’4” tall (there were several questions about the right garments for short vs tall women).
Everyone was asked which ONE item they would select from the current range and Hannah whittled it down to three! The Stripe Marl Easy Sweater, the Cord Tapered Trousers (in rust) and the Fracap Hiker Boots (olive). Nikki opted for one of the fairisle knits and explained how the designers this year had explored vintage yarns and knits for inspiration. She added that the knits are designed to be neat on the shoulders and then gently billow out (I’m sure she probably used more appropriate fashion jargon but I’m paraphrasing here!) for a feminine boyfriend-sweater feel.
My one take-out gem was how to tie a silk scarf (so I don’t look 103); you roll up from the pointy end for that very stylish and super-jaunty look you see as the finishing touch to so many outfits in the catalogues. This was a game-changing revelation to me as I have an inherited bundle of vintage Hermes and Liberty silk squares.
I would really recommend trying to book onto the next Graham St styling event; but, be warned, I’ll be racing you for tickets!
