Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

I don’t hate it. I don’t like the royal blue sleeve - if that were beige it would look a lot better to my eye.
If you don’t like it when it arrives Id be tempted to take the sleeves off and hem them - as a two colour tunic with long sleeved t shirt and belted I think it could work better.
Hope you like it when it arrives. And go for it if you do.

loobywench · 31/08/2020 05:31

Love it!

icantbeliveitsnotbutter · 31/08/2020 06:18

I love it! Ignore your DH I'm sure you'll look great in it!
Besides, don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks it's how you feel in it that is important. Grin

Chefwifelife · 31/08/2020 06:41

@YellowEllis I absolutely love it! I’m due my second baby today so it would currently look like a crop top on me Grin

Just do you and sod everyone else! I doubt anyone on the street would comment how much they dislike it; you’re much more likely to receive a compliment.

YellowEllis · 31/08/2020 07:06

Say what you want about the dress but leave sock boots alone! Don't ruin them for me they're my favourite Grin

If you bought a number of them you could unstitch them and then reassemble them as single colours.

Although probably not the look you are aiming for, to be honest. Smile

Ginfordinner · 31/08/2020 07:26

It's all very well telling the OP to ignore the nay sayers, but if she is anything like me I just wouldn't feel good in an outfit that most people, including my husband, thought looked awful.

I don't dress for other people, but it isn't exactly confidence boosting if your nearest and dearest says what you are wearing doesn't suit you.

cariadlet · 31/08/2020 07:36

I don't like it. It looks shapeless and the way the colours are quartered is weird. BUT I'm a lot older than you and it's years since I followed fashion. I've no idea what current trends are and my teenage dd has often said that she'd love to do a makeover on my wardrobe.

It doesn't matter what a bunch of randoms on the Internet think. When it arrives and you try it on, if you love how it looks on you then wear it.

Taylrse · 31/08/2020 07:36

I like it. The most important thing is that you like it and feel confident in it.

ProudMarys · 31/08/2020 07:53

I love the sock boots. I wouldn't wear this dress even if I was in my 20s but it really is just matter of taste. You wear it if you love it. My DH or my dad would be the type to make fun like say I look like a clown or whatever in a light hearted way but they wouldn't try to stop me wearing it and be nasty that's not nice.

ProudMarys · 31/08/2020 07:56

I also think they got the wrong type of model so that doesn't help.

Happynow001 · 31/08/2020 08:25

I actually love it and like the different colours. I'd wear it with skinny jeans/thick leggings and a great pair of flats/brogues etc or nice boots. 🌹

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 31/08/2020 08:31

I think it’s quite boring tbh.

Gayasameatball · 31/08/2020 08:31

@Folicky

I like it. If you've got good enough pins that will be beautiful. There's something boho, chic, not trying to hard, but sexy about it. Sometimes men don't understand clothes that aren't fitted

Agree with this completely! Surprised at so many negative comments, but each to their own,:)

Pandacub7 · 31/08/2020 08:32

I quite like the style, but not sure on the colours. I’d wear it with heeled boots or wedges, not trainers. I’m in my early 20s and size U.K. 6. Depends on your style and whether you’d work it!

Gayasameatball · 31/08/2020 08:32

And I'm 44 😁

madcatladyforever · 31/08/2020 08:38

Dont want to be rude but I hate it. It looks like a nondescript sack. But then if you're a size 8 you can probably make a bin bag look stylish.

DarkmilkAddict · 31/08/2020 09:02

Desperate to see it on

Pigeon31 · 31/08/2020 09:04

Your OH may like it better once he sees it on you :)

GorillaManilla · 31/08/2020 09:15

Is this a joke? That is quite possibly one of the ugliest dresses I have ever seen.

DarkmilkAddict · 31/08/2020 09:28

Nooo, there’s a very fine line between ugly and edgy but cool. It’s in the eye of the beholder

YummyInMyTummy · 31/08/2020 09:41

I really like it (but wouldn’t be able to pull it off myself). I think if you’re mid 20s and a size 8 you’ll look great!

badg3r · 31/08/2020 09:44

I really like it! I'm a few years older and about the same size. I would wear it.

Budapestpest · 31/08/2020 10:21

It’s the kind of dress that a young woman can really pull off.
I’m really not a fan of the whole “dressing for your age” thing but I do believe that young women can look amazing in something that looks like nothing on the hanger, and would look completely dreadful on me (40’s)
This is one of those things, op I’m sure you’ll look amazing in it

Budapestpest · 31/08/2020 10:22

Actually, scrap that, I can actually see a stylist older woman also looking amazing in it but it would have to be someone who has a real sense of individuality and style, and who has the body shape for a shirt dress.
