Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

Awful. Shapeless, ugly, novelty.

SleepingStandingUp · 31/08/2020 00:48

@ReallyLazy

Mid 20s, size 8? You can wear whatever you want!
This!! I'm sure you look great op. It's hard to be objective cos I imagine myself in it, I'd look awful but then I'm nearly 40 and fat! Tell him to big off
Chaletbungalow · 31/08/2020 01:04

It doesn’t look great on the model.

Frannibananni · 31/08/2020 01:16

I think it’s fine for you - you weren’t born when it was in fashion last.
I like it, if I wore it it would look like I was trying to recreate my first year of high school. ( think Degrassi junior high the original series. )

cbt944 · 31/08/2020 01:17

The cut, the colours, the weird drooping hemline... It truly is hideous, so it must be the height of young fashion.

If you like it, wear it. If not, I think it would be an excellent coverup smock for doing house painting, or if the neck does up, maybe dying your hair.

newmum2999 · 31/08/2020 01:21

Oh no, it's awful ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

Sorry op but I'd rather wear a bin bag!!!!

nzeire · 31/08/2020 01:21

I love it!

newmum2999 · 31/08/2020 01:22

Burn it

Aquamarine1029 · 31/08/2020 01:28

It looks like you bought 4 tops from a charity shop and smashed them together.

Listen to your husband.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 31/08/2020 01:43

On that model in your OP, the dress is hideous. She has no curves to give it any personality, she's wearing totally the wrong things to complement it. My guess is that you fell in love with it because it matches the style you're very comfortable with, and perhaps it looks great on you. If you feel like posting a photo, that would make it much easier!

avocadont · 31/08/2020 01:58

I'm mid twenties and a size 8 too and I LOVE it, it must look so good on. I'm so jealous. Guys don't get it sometimes and fwiw, I would wear a grandads top too.

avocadont · 31/08/2020 02:01

just seen it's from NastyGal, sweet. Omw to buy it taaaaaaah

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 31/08/2020 02:14

It's awful, as are sock boots

1forAll74 · 31/08/2020 02:44

It's an odd looking dress, but young people can get away with wearing quirky looking attire. So, because you like the dress, you will enjoy wearing it, that's all that matters.

DancingCatGif · 31/08/2020 03:04

MN is the last place I would go for fashion advice. Since most people here seem to hate it, that probably means it's amazing.

LouisBalfour · 31/08/2020 03:09

It’s awful!

Totickleamockingbird · 31/08/2020 03:10

Black boots don’t do it justice. Size 8, mid 20s means you can look great in it if you do the shoes right.

Ihave2dogs2cats5dc · 31/08/2020 03:23

What dress? It's a fugly oversized patch work style/rag leftovers shirt.

Ihave2dogs2cats5dc · 31/08/2020 03:24

And i disagree, being thin and young isn't a hall pass to looking good in everything though it helps. I cant imagine anyone looking good in this.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/08/2020 03:47

What are sock boots?

Marchitectmummy · 31/08/2020 04:24

Its horrid sorry.

Notwiththeseknees · 31/08/2020 04:44

Hahahahaha wtf Confused

TitsOutForHarambe · 31/08/2020 05:12

Clothes should make you happy. I’ve worn a few things others have raised eyebrows at and will continue to do so! I dress for me and no one else.

This is good advice

bananabob · 31/08/2020 05:13

Oooh I actually really love it!

Charleyhorses · 31/08/2020 05:15

Mid twenties, size 8.
Wear what the fuck you like and ignore your DH.
In fact that applies any size any age.
