Is my new dress really that bad?

I've been eyeing this dress up for ages but it was £50 so never purchased, I bagged it in the sale yesterday for £22. I love it, I've got black heeled sock boots that can dress it up a little, black ankle boots (optional tights) for casual wear. Can wear it with, without a belt. With or without a denim jacket. Might even get away with trainers. It seemed really versatile. I'm mid twenties and a size 8 if that matters.

Anyway my dickhead husband hates it and has ruined it for me. Says it looks like it belongs to a grandad. I feel a bit sad because of how long I've wanted it.

Opinions?

It’s adorable! I think it is quirky and cute and you should enjoy it. If your husband doesn’t like him tell him great cause he doesn’t have to wear it!

IdblowJonSnow · 30/08/2020 23:34

Clearly it's a marmite dress! I quite like it.
Enjoy your dress, who cares what anyone thinks!

MissBetina · 30/08/2020 23:35

I love it!! Might have to buy it for myselfGrin

stormystormysky · 30/08/2020 23:37

Love it!!

scubadive · 30/08/2020 23:37

I really like it, nice colours, a bit different. I like the contrasting fabrics and I like the style and yes versatile. Not figure hugging Which is maybe what DH would like but that’s partly why I like it. Enjoy but it’s hard when your DH has already said he doesn’t like it, maybe he’ll prefer it on.

BackforGood · 30/08/2020 23:38

Well, I'm not sure many Grandads could rock the look, Wink but, as a rule of thumb, if a professional photographer and a model can't make an outfit look good, then it probably won't look great once you get it home.

HowFastIsTooFast · 30/08/2020 23:38

I quite like it OP! I've been doing some part-time work behind a bar recently and have enjoyed seeing what the younger girls are wearing for nights out these days. It mostly seems to be stuff I gave to the charity shop at the end of the 90s Wink

In your mid-20s and a size 8 you'll look great in anything, who cares what anyone else says. Life would be so bloody dull if we all liked the same stuff.

Guineapigbridge · 30/08/2020 23:40

Horrible. Colours are wrong. Shape is wrong. It even looks bad on the model.

Bettysprocker · 30/08/2020 23:43

I'm a 6/8 but my legs are awful. If you've legs like the model it will look amazing. I'd look hideous in it.

GarlicMcAtackney · 30/08/2020 23:44

It’s minging, even with the skinny child model in it 😂 it’s hardly a ‘dress’ though, it’s a messed up shirt to be worn with no trousers. I wore some trash when I was in my twenties, and now dress like I’m trash that’s trapped down the side of the sofa, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 30/08/2020 23:44

I think it looks fun, and I'd wear it if I was size 8 and mid-20s Smile

But what matters is that you like it. Wear it and enjoy yourself. Don't risk reaching middle age and thinking "I wish I'd pleased myself a bit more when I was young ...."

PutBabyInTheCorner · 30/08/2020 23:48

If you love it and think it looks good I'm sure that will come across when you wear it.
Personally I think it's awful. Also I don't get why so many comments suggest being a size 8 means you can wear anything. I'm a similar build to the model and it would look shocking on me (I think it looks shocking on the model too I'm afraid).
I'm sure you'd hate most of my clothes though.

MsEllany · 30/08/2020 23:50

I like it. I wouldn't wear it - well, maybe over jeans - but I think it looks nice on the model, and assuming you're not only 3ft tall thereby making it a curious smock type affair I think it'll look nice Grin

Lou670 · 30/08/2020 23:53

I am 50 and a size 8/10, so this is an opinion from an 'oldie'............I love it! I wouldn't wear it at my age but certainly would at your age!

DarkmilkAddict · 30/08/2020 23:57

I’m on team ‘could look brilliant but reserving judgement until photo’

If that is a team

StarryGazeyEyes · 31/08/2020 00:00

Not quite my colours but i'd wear it - i'm over 50 and somewhat larger than you so you might not want to hear that! Honestly, it's just a frock. If it makes you feel good then wear it. Don't let other's opinions knock your confidence.

blueshoes · 31/08/2020 00:03

You have got to really style yourself to look good in that, assuming you are not the age and build of the model.

It is the sort of dress some women like and most men hate.

As a consolation, I bet it is super comfortable.

bellinique · 31/08/2020 00:06

@ReallyLazy

Mid 20s, size 8? You can wear whatever you want!
This!

It's not my style but if you like it then go for it.

janetmendoza · 31/08/2020 00:12

No its horrid. And if you are influenced by what dh and internet randomers have to say about it then you probably had no confidence in it in the first place. Happy to help :-)

Serin · 31/08/2020 00:21

I've just shown it to my DD who is 23.
She likes the dress but says you have gone wrong marrying "dickhead husband".

excelledyourself · 31/08/2020 00:28

You love it, so stick with it. As long as it's clean, and you're clean and presentable when wearing it, go for it. I often look at people and think what they're wearing is so not my thing, but good on them for wearing what they want, making a brave choice, styling something their way, etc.

And that's not to say I hate your dress. It's really not as bad as some are making out. Roll the sleeves up a bit more and see how it looks with a belt. Chuck on some statement earrings. Chunky boots and tights in the winter (although not keen on the ones the model has on).

You're mid twenties - if you can't wear exactly what you want now, when can you?

RyanBergarasTeeth · 31/08/2020 00:29

Im 29 and love it. I want aomething similar.

LovePoppy · 31/08/2020 00:29

I don’t like it. But we all have diff fashion sense

If you love it wear it with pride

Staffy1 · 31/08/2020 00:37

Not keen on it. It looks like an over-sized shirt that's been patched together from different shirts.

fibeee · 31/08/2020 00:38

I’m not personally a fan but that’s probably because it would look horrid on me. But you’re young and a size 8 so will probably look great in most things!

Don’t listen to your DH. He’s not in charge of your wardrobe, you are. He expressed an opinion but you don’t need to make it your own.
