I'm still seeing so many cold shoulder tops. Who is buying these monstrosoties?!

Ruffles don't seem to be going anywhere either.

Love a beard

I may feel differently if my dad had one, not too sure

I still dated men that were clean shaven and didn’t compare them to my dad

@Bleepbloopblarp that’s sort of included in my dislike of shorts with the pockets hanging out - they are usually too short the whole way around!

Also, on the topic of colours that only look good if you have olive skin - can tanned skin stop being trendy/presented as something to aim for?! People’s natural skin tone is fine whatever that may be! It’s rightly unacceptable to tell someone their skin is too dark so why is it ok to say someone’s skin is too light? I am frequently told I need to get a bit of a tan/healthy glow but the only way I would ever look tanned is if I got so many freckles they all joined up!

Hangingover · 26/08/2020 11:30

Bum implants and huge filled lips.

‘tried on a beige rain coat once. I looked like Inspector Gadget.’

Just laughed out loud, that’s so funny!

My natural colouring is dark auburn hair, very fair, freckled skin and mid-brown eyes. Grey and other washed out colours like mauve, baby pink and ice blue look terrible on me; think the six feet under scenario. The brown, autumnal palette is perfect for me: brown, camel, gold, most greens, red, pinks of a more salmon shade, purple, apricot.

WhatamessIgotinto · 26/08/2020 12:45

I love coated jeans too @allpeaceanddove - favourite pair are plum coloured ones.

Also am never giving up my Birkies!! 🤷🏽‍♀️

I love skinny jeans! I do have skinny legs though so they ate quite flattering for me.

I love contour but only when it's done well, it needs to be subtle.

Don't like:
Super long acrylics, I'm not against fake nails as such but the ridiculously long, garish ones are awful.
Any style of jeans that are baggy.
Drawn on slug eyebrows.
High heeled boots, always see boots that are gorgeous but they've got a big bloody heel on them, nope.
Cheap thin leggings that are see through, possibly the most unflattering item of clothing ever.
Big frumpy dresses that drown whoever is wearing them.
Jeans that are any colour other than blue or black.
Puffy sleeves on absolutely EVERYTHING Angry (really not flattering on my top heavy figure, look good on a pear shape figure though).
Oversized anything, I love a loose fitting top or fine knit but "oversized" just looks ridiculous.
Colourful, chunky jewellery.

The thing with fashion is that people see the latest trends looking amazing on models and stick thin celebrities and rush out to buy the clothes but don't stop to consider whether those trends will work for them. Does the colour suit them? Does it work for their body shape? I do like to follow trends but only if they are flattering on me. Some trends are just awful on anyone though.

MynephewR · 26/08/2020 15:13

they *are quite flattering

likeamillpond · 26/08/2020 15:15

Re: the skinny jeans vs mom jeans debate. Both can be hideous, depending on the cut, fabric and your body shape. Best jeans are a straight classic cut from a decent brand that hug your bottom but then skim a little. Fabric needs to be fairly thick but not stiff to avoid the baggy knee look.

Foxyariel that's very good advice.
I have a pair of bootcut jeans that are very fitting around the bum and are a rhickish material a and I've had loads of compliments.
So many that I don't care if bootcut are out or in. They suit me.
I am now on the lookout for something sumular in a straight leg.
Which brand would you recommend?

likeamillpond · 26/08/2020 15:17

Sqkinny jeans. AWFUL.
Really should only be worn by skinny people.

I don't know about that.
They look great in winter with boots

Tbf it's not really the same thing. I get your point but I don't think it's comparable

likeamillpond · 26/08/2020 15:23

One thing in favour of cold shoulder top.
The shoulder is one of the few places on the body that doesn't seem to age and sag.

I have one that I feel a bit bad about saying:
Vest tips worn by anyone over the age of 50.
After the age of 50, even the slimmest of arms gets that soft slightly flabby wobbly skinned look.
Young arms are lovely and . Older arms look better with a bit of a sleeve.
Not a good look.

likeamillpond · 26/08/2020 15:24

Oops tops not tips.

ProudMarys · 26/08/2020 15:31

I do like skinny jeans but a tend to wear slim leg jeans they are a bit more in between

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 26/08/2020 15:49

Daisy Duke shorts
Skinny Jeans
White trainers
Crop tops
Midi length skirts
Sliders especially with socks

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 26/08/2020 15:52

Fancy sleeves puffball or batwing - I don't get how you wear them with a jumper or whatever with out spoiling the arm silhouette

Cycle shorts bad enough in PE at school let alone voluntarily

TheChampagneGalop · 26/08/2020 15:56

Fast fashion.
Polyester dresses and blouses.

WhatamessIgotinto · 26/08/2020 16:08

@likeamillpond I'm not sure about your point about arms on the over 50s. I have a good friend who has slim, muscular arms at 56 because she works at it (targeted weights etc) there's nothing flabby about her arms. Mine, on the other hand ...

Whatamess.
After a certain age. Straps tend to 'sink in 'to the skin skightly.instead of sitting on top of it.
When I was younger, bra straps stayed where they were supposed to be.
Now I'm older they sink in and I look as if I have back fat. Even though I'm fairly slim and go to the gym regularly.
It's inevitable.
That same softening, or losening happens to the upper Arms as we age.

If older ladies want to continue wearing vest foos then good for them
I don think it does them any favours and most older bodies look better with bit of a sleeve.

likeamillpond · 26/08/2020 17:06

vest tops

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/08/2020 17:10

Completely agree!

I have them in black, grey and navy. But now I need them in plum, obviously x

vest tops

I've got loads of vest tops. I'm wearing one now. Grin

Worldgonecrazy · 26/08/2020 19:06

I wear loads of vest tops but keeping arms in shape takes a lot of work.

Apparently women over 50 shouldn’t wear bikinis either ........
