Project 333

So I saw this referenced on another thread and thought it might be nice to try as my wardrobe is overflowing, mostly of things that are too small.

The concept is basically to use 33 items (including outerwear, accessories, and shoes, but excluding sleepwear and gym kit) for 3 months.

I'm putting together my list for autumn and 33 items actually goes a long way. I need a mix of smart casual and casual with one 'formal' outfit. My style is alternative.

Has anyone done this before? Anyone want to join me?

Il join! I also saw this referenced on another thread and have been thinking about what my Autumn 33 will be!

I'm currently on holiday so just virtually thinking about it atm. Pinterest is making me want to go out and buy 33 new items but I'm going to challenge myself to stick with 33 I already have!
You're right though... 33 feels like a lot!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2020 08:02

I am usimg stuff I already have but did make some recent purchases.

OP posts:
maddenlightfoot · 23/08/2020 08:11

My biggest recent purchase has been some black DM boots which I'm gradually wearing in ready for a/w. Fine with dresses and tights but I'm struggling to think of trousers I can wear them with, particularly for work (teacher).

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2020 08:31

You reminded me I have some knee high DM boots I should crack out. Also that I need to get my ugg boots repaired ready for winter!

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2020 08:48

This is my initial list

  1. Black Vans
  2. black boots
  3. black flats
  4. walking shoes
  5. blue backpack
  6. cross body bag
  7. Wide leg next jeans
  8. grey skinny distressed jeans
  9. black work trousers
10. purple cord skirt 11. teal pinnifor dress 12 black long sleeved t shirt 13 green mint velvet trousers 14 black warehouse t shirt 15 black fleece button jacket 16 white polkadot shirt 17 black vest top 18 purple waterproof jacket 19 black t shirt 20 navy t shirt peter pan collar 21 purple long sleeved top 22 black and white pattern dress 23 purple hoody 24 black lace top 25 red star t shirt 26 denim skirt 27 black trench coat 28 red checked shirt 29 navy floral tunic top 30 cord leggings 31 burgandy floral dress 32 purple satin blouse 33 black lace sleeve sweater

Ah forgot accessories so this needs tweaking.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 23/08/2020 15:56

Do you count underwear and jewellery?
I think I probably do this already since I put on a lot of weight and loads of my clothes don't fit me.
I'm currently working dieting and have dug out some clothes I'd put away, so I could do this I think without going shopping.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2020 17:08

You do count jewlery but not underwear, sleepwear, or gym kit.

OP posts:
maddenlightfoot · 24/08/2020 10:28

Ok... still working on my list. Have just realised though how tricky planning from September - November. September can be really warm and by the end of November it will be freezing! Do I count wellies? Woolly hat? Gloves? I've counted some scarves so feels like I should count the other items too.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/08/2020 11:10

Yeah I've got the same dilemma tbh I've decided I'm going to plan for 'autumn' weather, and if we end up with a real cold snap in November I'll bring winter forward. I don't own wellies but I think I might need some given we are probably going to be doing more outdoors stuff this year with the pandemic.

I've now got

  1. Black Vans
  2. black boots
  3. black flats
  4. Metallica T shirt
  5. blue backpack
  6. cross body bag
  7. Wide leg next jeans
  8. grey skinny distressed jeans
  9. black work trousers
10. purple cord skirt 11. teal pinnifor dress 12 black long sleeved t shirt 13 green mint velvet trousers 14 black warehouse t shirt 15 black fleece button jacket 16 white polkadot shirt 17 black/grey stripped square neck top 18 purple waterproof jacket 19 black t shirt 20 navy blazer 21 purple long sleeved top 22 black and white pattern dress 23 purple hoody 24 black lace top 25 red star t shirt 26 denim skirt 27 Burgundy lace top 28 red checked shirt 29 navy floral tunic top 30 Black studded belt 31 burgandy floral dress 32 purple long sleeved silk blouse 33 black lace sleeve sweater

I have started trying this out pre official start on 1st of September. I think I need to take 2 things out really as I should be counting my necklace and earrings, but I'm not sure exactly which jewelry to pick that will complement both smart work and grungy casual.

Had a great clear out of the wardrobe though and got a big bag to take to the charity shop so that's good.

maddenlightfoot · 24/08/2020 14:58

Your list sounds great! Loving the casual grunge. My work has been very casual up until now but we've just got a new head and I'm not sure yet if that means a smarter work look

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2020 19:05

Ooh. I like this idea, although I'd probably want to change my list in October.

Thinking aloud:
1: Jeans - blue
2: Jeans - black
3: Pencil skirt - black
4: Pencil skirt - checked
5 and 6: 2 black t-shirts
7 and 8: 2 black jackets
9: black jumper
10: pink jumper
11: black biker
12: pink biker
13: green jacket
14: black dress
15 and 16: 2 floral dresses
17: another floral dress!
18: black trousers
19: black culottes
20: slogan tee
21: white trainers
22: black trainers
23: black shoes
24: black boots
25: grey jacket
26: floral silk shirt
27: black silk shirt
28: denim skirt
29: grey jacket
30: red dress
31: red top
32: pink trench coat
33: black and white top

There's a couple of pairs of shoes that I'd miss, and a couple of dresses, but this would suit most occasions other than a heatwave.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2020 19:08

Wait! I have to count bags too?! Okay - need two of those (big black and small brown) so will need to lose one silk skirt and one dress.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2020 19:09

And I haven't counted jewellery because it stays on pretty permanently - studs, necklace, bracelet - all silver.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/08/2020 19:26

Yeah my jewlery is kinda permenant too which is why I've not counted it. I might need to add another bag but will see how it goes. I'm wondering if I have enough warm layers but will see how the weather is, like I said I might go winter at start of november if needs be.

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/08/2020 19:29

Have you doubled up on grey jackets @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie ?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2020 19:51

Well spotted! I actually possess four grey jackets, but I'll just have one and keep the extra dress! Grin

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/08/2020 20:13

I think dresses are a great way to go for autumn but I don't have many that fit me at the moment and trying to 'shop my wardrobe' while I'm loosing some weight.

OP posts:
greyinganddecaying · 24/08/2020 22:16

I did this a few years ago and loved it. As I'm not going anywhere I reckon I could manage with much less at the moment!

RedIsWhereItsAt · 24/08/2020 22:22

Only count jewellery if you take it on and off. E.g. not wedding ring etc.

joeysapple · 25/08/2020 06:51

Love this idea and saw the thread last night. Can I please join?! DS has had me up early this morning so I've been putting together my list. Hopefully this will curb any impulses to spend on random buys over the next few months!

I'm up to 24 items at the moment and think I've got a good range.

  1. Chunky boots
  2. Heeled boots
  3. White trainer style brogues
  4. White tee
  5. Grey tee
  6. Black tee
  7. Grey jumper
  8. Plain white shirt
  9. Patterned white shirt
10. Dark green merino roll neck 11. Orange cotton roll neck 12. Maroon scoop neck 13. Denim jacket 14. Leather jacket 15. Black spotted midi dress 16. Large black tote 17. Small black cross body 18. Feather earrings 19. Hoop earrings 20. Grey jeans 21. Wide leg black trousers (these are a bit tight so might come off the list!) 22. Black slim leg trousers 23. Dark grey trousers 24. Leopard print pleated skirt

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/08/2020 07:07

Your list sounds great @joeysapple are you buying new or did you find pics of all your items online?

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/08/2020 07:13

I think if I didn't dress totally different for work I could do it in 15-20 pieces, now we are mostly working from home I need less formal though.

OP posts:
joeysapple · 25/08/2020 07:25

@LivingDeadGirlUK I use an app called StyleBook so I spent some time a few years ago cataloguing all my clothes and now I just add items as I buy them to keep it updated. Photos of most clothes from prior seasons can still be found online so it's not too hard to put together but does take a few hours when you first start.

Ive added two more items as the clumpy boots don't work as well as I'd hoped with my formal trousers and I'm also worried about the cold!

So...

  1. Coat
  2. Silver loafers

Do we count gym wear?!

No you dont count gym wear, lounge wear (for in the house purely) or sleepwear or undies :)
