Project 333

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/08/2020 07:45

So I saw this referenced on another thread and thought it might be nice to try as my wardrobe is overflowing, mostly of things that are too small.

The concept is basically to use 33 items (including outerwear, accessories, and shoes, but excluding sleepwear and gym kit) for 3 months.

I'm putting together my list for autumn and 33 items actually goes a long way. I need a mix of smart casual and casual with one 'formal' outfit. My style is alternative.

Has anyone done this before? Anyone want to join me?

I've played with my list again (made a spreadsheet!!!) and have got it to 35 items, which will cover pretty much everything for the next month, I think. I haven't counted scarves, but will probably wear a few as it gets cooler

Today is - black skinnies, black t-shirt, cream cable knit cardigan, white trainers, pink print silk scarf and pink trench.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 31/08/2020 14:58

I've been trialing my 33 for the last week before going for it proper from tomorrow. I've kinda failed on accessories though so am going to leave them out this time.

Also have realised that I have a lot of 'that will do' clothes, so I have 3 pairs of black trousers, but one has no pockets although fits well, one has pockets but are a bit too short, and the third have no pockets and are a bit too long. I am going to try and find the perfect pair (great fit and pockets you can put things in) then donate the other 3.

So for day 1 I am wearing my green smart combats and a black long sleeved top which are both on the list. The one hoody I had put on the list is in the wash so I think I'm going to have to take a top off and put another one in. I would go for a nice smart chunky knit but alas I don't have any that fits at the moment.

I've also realised that I like my long sleeved t shirt for comfort, but if I would prefer it with a v neck (I do have a black v neck 3/4 sleeves but its a bit tight).

I've made a list, but have left out bags and jewellery. I will probably use the same jewellery most days and I'm not using bags much at the moment.

I've never been keen on wearing skirts and dresses, but I want to as they are so pretty, so I'm trying to force myself to use them more.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2020 20:23

The advantage of dresses is that it's one item instead of two for a top and bottoms!

Today was a dress, jacket and boots - all from the newly improved list. It was fine for situation and temperature, so they're all staying on the list!

Yankathebear · 01/09/2020 20:41

I came back from holiday and felt totally stumped by my wardrobe! So I'm starting 333 but will build up over the coming days depending on what I wear!

So yesterday I wore a blue patterned skirt and slouchy tee. Today a black and white check skirt, grey tee, DMs and a bright necklace. Each skirt can be swapped with each tee so far.

  1. blue patterned skirt
  2. black and white check skirt
  3. blue slouchy tee
  4. grey round neck tee
  5. denim jacket
  6. chunky burgundy cardie
  7. DMs
  8. yellow birkies
  9. bright necklace

The rest to follow...

Estrellente · 02/09/2020 07:59

Ooh I like the sound of this! I need a clearout. Have lost a couple of stone this year but because I’m working from home and basically rotating through about three tops and leggings I don’t even really know what I own anymore.

joeysapple · 02/09/2020 07:59

Everyone's lists sound great!

I realised yesterday that one of my jumpers is impractical - it attracts loads of hair from golden haired DDog and and will need washing on a wool wash. I've not got any other wool items on the list so this is going to be a pain. Likely to swap it out for something else.

Same with my grey jeans. They aren't very comfortable and I have to keep pulling them up all the time. May give them one more chance and then swap them if needed. Went for a walk in my clumpy boots and have given myself a huge blister on the heel 🙈

It's interesting how this project is making me really think about whether my clothes are actually practical for me and my life, now I'm going to be forced to wear them more often.

joeysapple · 02/09/2020 08:01

@Yankathebear I wouldn't be including my work uniform, no! But work clothes than can be chosen, yes.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 02/09/2020 11:15

I've had a massive clearout of my wardrobe and clothes I had in the loft, and have 4 large ikea bags worth of stuff to get rid off.
It's a really nice feeling to get rid of stuff that I don't want or need.

Today, I'm in white straight leg jeans from Gap (their jeans are really lovely) and a cricket-style jumper in off-white and beige from Reiss. Nike trainers, tan belt and my usual jewellery.

None of my clothes is particularly practical (wool and silk requiring handwashing, light colours etc), especially with a toddler, but I feel better in this rather than more practical clothes.
It does have to be comfortable though - I can't be bothered with being uncomfortable.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 02/09/2020 11:49

I don't have my steel toecap boots, hi viz and hard hat on the list but do have the shirts and trousers/skirts I pick to wear with them on the list.

OP posts:
Yankathebear · 02/09/2020 12:52

Thank you. I won’t add scrubs Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2020 20:41

I love cricket style jumpers, but look horrendous in them!

Today's outfit was all from the list, and all passed the 'stay on the list' test:
black skirt
black jacket
black shoes
black printed top

RiskIt4Biscuit · 03/09/2020 10:50

I love cricket style jumpers, but have never before found one which wouldn't my not-sporty-at-all look, but this one is exactly what I wanted: www.reiss.com/p/wool-blend-ribbed-knit-jumper-womens-katie-in-neutral-pink-cream/

Today, I'm wearing the faux leather skirt again, this time with a Gap merino turtleneck in black. Wearing the usual simple gold jewellery, and will add trainers and a trenchcoat when going out for a walk with dog and toddler.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/09/2020 13:09

Well I've already gone and mixed things up lol. I wanted to wear my black trousers and blue blazer for a meeting today, its a new blazer and when I put it on the 3/4 length sleeves do not work with a long sleeved shirt. So I had to grab a plum t shirt to wear under my blazer as I didn't think black trousers and a black tshirt looked right.

joeysapple · 05/09/2020 07:43

Last two outfits attached.

I've bought another cardigan, it's so soft and cosy 😍 definitely need to either swap out a pair of work trousers or lose 7lbs so my current ones fit!

I'm going walking in the peak district today, I have classed my walking trousers boots etc as 'gym wear' though.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 05/09/2020 13:05

Was wearing Spanx Jean-ish leggings with the Reiss jumper and trainers yesterday.

Today, I'm wearing the leggings again, but with a navy jumper and Church Burwood Met brogues in a brown/burgundy colour. Trenchcoat when outside.
I don't have any bags on my list, but carrying a burgundy BV Olimpia bag today. My usual wallet on chain is just too small today.

I've not been using brogues with jeans before, but with a bit of a turn-up it works, I think.

Once it gets a bit colder, I may swap my light blue jeans for black jeans and my denim jacket for something warmer.

joeysapple · 05/09/2020 15:33

Have a lovely time @LivingDeadGirlUK

@RiskIt4Biscuit I love brogues with jeans, outfit sounds nice

joeysapple · 07/09/2020 08:22

Saturday and Sunday's outfits. It's starting to feel a bit same-y already. Need to iron some of my other tops as I seem to be wearing the same three T-shirt's over and over....

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/09/2020 10:48

Yeah I have found I'm just wearing the same thing over and over, which isn't what I was expecting after pairing things down so much. I think I just love some of the items a lot more than the others which I've picked for practicality and to make sure everything matches.

OP posts:
RiskIt4Biscuit · 07/09/2020 11:32

Thanks, Joey. Really like your necklace in your first outfit picture today!

I'm in burgundy faux leather leggings, black t-shirt and black boyfriend cardigan (hip length) today. Going out for a long walk in a bit, so will add Nike trainers.

I didn't add any t-shirts to my list, so cheating a bit today.

Yesterday, I was wearing skinny light blue jeans and a camel cardigan. The jeans are getting too big (they don't look skinny anymore), so will probably have to replace them.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/09/2020 17:13

So... I'm on holiday this week, I want to take different things for my 'holiday wardrobe' but is that breaking the rules :/

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2020 19:51

I think you should definitely go off-list for a holiday.

I cheated today and wore a jacket that wasn't on my list.
