So I saw this referenced on another thread and thought it might be nice to try as my wardrobe is overflowing, mostly of things that are too small.

The concept is basically to use 33 items (including outerwear, accessories, and shoes, but excluding sleepwear and gym kit) for 3 months.

I'm putting together my list for autumn and 33 items actually goes a long way. I need a mix of smart casual and casual with one 'formal' outfit. My style is alternative.

Has anyone done this before? Anyone want to join me?

So Stylebook doesn't appear to be on android but ive downloaded something similar and its actually quite fun!

It is quite fun, and once you've got everything catalogued it's quite easy to maintain.

I'm up to 29 items. Thinking I'm a bit light on work trousers and cardigans and possibly a pair of trainers but will see how I go. How's your list going @LivingDeadGirlUK ? When are you planning to start?

Have packed up the rest of my wardrobe into Ikea bags! It felt cathartic whilst doing it but then a bit scary only seeing a few items hanging there.

Here's day one's outfit. No shoes because I haven't left the house other than in flip flops to do the bin!

I'm kinda giving my latest list a test drive before starting on the 1st Sep. Yesterday was my grey skinny jeans and navy floral tunic, black flats and purple rain coat when I popped to the shops.

Today the teal pinny dress with black t shirt and tights which I classed as undies. No shoes or coat as been in all day.

Those earings are really pretty @joeysapple I confess I have ordered some gold hoops from etsy as I have a gold chain and silver earrings atm which looks a bit odd.

Mine today was black trousers, black t-shirt, black jacket - and a pair of shoes which are not on my list and proved to be uncomfortable for a full day on my feet, so won't be going onto the list!

joeysapple · 26/08/2020 19:15

I have the same worries about shoes - the ones that go with everything are not necessarily the comfy ones!

Today's outfit (minus leather jacket). Have added a belt so I'm now up to 30 items. Think I also need to add a necklace!

Today it was the wide leg jeans with my red stars tshirt and I had to wear my purple hoody as its got chilly up here. I post my outfits on the plus sized outfit of the day thread so I'm not going to double up here but I'll do a montage pic at the end of the week.

I think I'm going to have to swap out some tops and put a few more sweaters/hoodies in. I've got two 'fancy' tops but tbh I 'm not sure when I'm going to be wearing them so might swap them out.

So glad some folks are going to try this! I’m not sure yet, am mulling it over still. But for me I think I would find it easier to do October - December as the first season (rather than Sept-Nov) as I’m loathe to put my sandals away just yet. Then make a fresh selection in January with a lighter colour palette for early spring. Well done all of you who are just jumping straight in there though, it’s probably best to just do it and not procrastinate!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2020 09:09

ToManderley - just do it how you want to do it. I'll probably review after a month, and I'll almost certainly 'cheat' with shoes and accessories. It doesn't matter.

Went out last night and opted for:
New black dress
Pink leather jacket
Black suede boots
Felt just right for both the weather and the restaurant.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 27/08/2020 11:44

I'm smart today in my black and white dress, slate coloured tights and black flats.

I might have a rethink on dress choice, its polyester and i'm already a bit sweaty.

I might give this a go! @joeysapple I’ve just lost an hour of work time cataloguing the clothes I bought recently / worn this month. Strangely addictive!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2020 16:56

I opted for a floral dress and biker jacket today, with white Stans. The weather proved to be disgusting, and I wish I'd worn jeans and a raincoat.

Lardlizard · 28/08/2020 17:44

Hi, just checking in for a read after my tea, thanks for the invite LivingDeadGirlUKSmile

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/08/2020 19:36

I've made a couple of swaps before offical start. I've taken out the red lace top as the sleeves are a bit tight, added in a black pencil skirt. Also swapped short sleeved shirt for a long one.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2020 23:47

I wore black jeans (list), green jacket (list), pink t-shirt (not on list) today.
Mine's not going to work very well, because of needing full time work clothes, as well as casual, with no cross-over. I might not count either shoes or coats, in order to give a bit more flexibility.

I'm going to have a bit of a wardrobe sort tomorrow to review.

BunnyLovesBananas · 29/08/2020 00:16

What is the point of this?

To get rid of everything else or to create a capsule wardrobe?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/08/2020 07:25

@BunnyLovesBananas I'm trying this because going forward I would like to have fewer but better quality clothes. Its helped me focus on a clear out but I've not thrown/donated tons, just focused on one season with other seasons packed away. I've donated/sold anything 2 sizes out, but kept the next size down stored. It seemed a nice way to do a declutter.

Checking in for today. Off to another city for an overnight stay so need an outfit for day and one for night.

The advantage I've found four days in is much less time faffing about what to wear. My wardrobe only has a few things hanging which is actually really nice to look at. It's also stopping me from ordering a lot of new clothes which I'd normally be doing on payday, although I have ordered one cardigan. Enjoying it so far!

Liking the leopard print, Joe.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/08/2020 18:14

So, after a muddy day out one casual hoody might not be enough lol. It is really hard when your work clothes are so different to every day.

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 29/08/2020 20:15

Love that leopard print skirt and the earrings
This is what I want to do get that style book and catalogue things I think it will be worth the effort

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2020 22:22

Been to the pub.

Black skinnies (on the list)
Pink t- shirt (not on list)
Black hoodie (not on list)
Pink trench (on list)
Paul Smith trainers (not on list but should be)

joeysapple · 31/08/2020 07:56

Good luck to those of you planning to start cataloguing your wardrobes. It's a lot of effort but definitely worth it.

Yesterday's outfit was a simple one (hangover day!). Today we're taking DS and my nephews out so I've gone comfy again with mom jeans and a chunky cardi.

Added a necklace and some converse to my list so I'm now at 31 items. Think I'll need one more cardigan and one more pair of trousers suitable for work.

I’d been toying with starting a capsule wardrobe, so I’d love to give this a go.

I’ve lost a bit of weight and am getting to the point of wanting to get back to feeling more like me, rather than just be mum (my toddler is 19 months), so I have been shopping a bit, as well as been through my old clothes to see what fits and what doesn’t, so I feel like I am starting almost from scratch with an autumn wardrobe.

Are you quite strict about not using anything other than the 33 items, or will you add in other items/change items if you want to?
