I've bought a couple of bits
A navy leather biker jacket
Pair of faux leather trousers
(Think there is a leather theme going on here)
Has anyone else bought any bits yet?
Autumn is my fav season

If anyone sees a very warm parka, in any colour not green. Short enough for someone petite and looks like an authentic old style parka, rather than, say a Bodened up, or a Joules or an M&S version IYKWIM please post a photo or a link and tag me in it.

Last year I looked everywhere for one that fitted the bill but they were either the right colour and size but not warm. Or they were were the watered down, non edgy type and so on.

It's surprisingly difficult to find warm coats if you're petite because anything bulky and therefore warm makes me look like the Michelin man.

BrassicaBabe I laughed at Really, what do I need? Another stained dressing gown? I've been WFH since March and I've made a point of getting dressed every day, even if it's only for 4 or 5 hours. Though I do understand the appeal of sitting around in jogging bottoms Grin that's what I often do at the weekends.

SlipsAndLols · 29/08/2020 22:54

This is probably cynical and it's certainly a downer on the thread but I have to wonder whether some of the shops will still exist in the Autumn.

Sadly true .
I don't WFH but I have a Uniform so I don't need to worry there. Just need to get to/from work (leggings and long top) and weekends .
I don't have to walk to/from school.

I could probably get away with just new underwear .

No holiday this year and unlikely next year .
I have enough summer clothes to last .

I reckon we'll see a huge loss in retail Sad

Agreed. We considered taking a holiday abroad this year. We live in a UK holiday area so going anywhere in the UK feels like we'd be better off at home, especially as many places including ours were so crowded this year.

Then when people were being told that they would have to isolate for 2 weeks while they were still on holiday we just thought no thanks.

Like you I have enough summer clothes.

In the past I've bought quite a few of my basics from Hobbs and L K Bennett. Currently both are offering unprecedented discounts.

Worrying times.

@SlipsAndLols sadly I think you’re right. The summer sales have finished and autumn sales are already started. Retailers were struggling anyway and this will accelerate it.
I’d love to see a move away from fast fashion but if you work in retail or fashion it must be very worrying.
My friend runs a very small boutique style website selling her own designs, she’s been inundated with orders lately so maybe there’s some hope

I think people have re evaluated their lives and had a bit of a lightbulb "what was I doing moment" or sadly their jobs, are at risk and they are saving and paying off debt .
I think several billion of unsecured debt was paid off which is unprecedented.

I bought 5 pairs of boots last winter ( I'm an awkward size and if I see ones that fit, I buy them). However I'm looking at a red pair.....
I need knitwear more than anything.

BellaBella84 · 30/08/2020 22:35

Hi everyone! I too have started rooting through my autumn winter wardrobe it's full of eBay purchases already! My question is this would you spend £25 on a pair of joules pajamas? All answers apreciated 👍

RiskIt4Biscuit · 31/08/2020 00:06

I’ve lost a bit of weight and most of my clothes is too big, so I have been shopping a bit:
Black faux leather leggings
Black faux leather midi pencil skirt
Black hip length merino wool cardigan
Black merino wool turtleneck
Camel merino wool turtleneck
Cricket jumper
Black mini wrap dress
Nike Vapormax trainers (my old ones are worn through)
Underwear

I’ve been through my wardrobe and have found loads of clothes to get rid off as well as old clothes that fits, such as a trench coat, jeans, jackets/blazers and so on, as well as a pair of knee high boots which I can now wear with jeans tucked in - not sure it is fashionable, but I struggled with zipping them before, so it’s an achievement.

JMAngel1 · 31/08/2020 05:47

Yes, knee hugh boots are definitely in - especially if a block heel. Wearing them 70s style with midi skirts too.

Endlessmizzle · 31/08/2020 06:36

Love this thread. Trying to combine tidying up and taking care of my existing wardrobe with buying the odd lovely thing that compliments it. I don’t need any more volume so have banned myself from most fast fashion.

Over the next few months I need/want:

A parka similar to pp (except I’m very tall!)
New ankle boots, prob DM
One or two shirts/cardi Wyse/sezane

Pp who was nervous of leather, I got next coated leggings last year on recommendation from here and they were a really good easy way in and so practical but lovely.

LaLaLanded · 31/08/2020 06:42

This is a great thread! Although it made me list longer...

Went for a mooch around the shops yesterday and bought a wonderful faux crocodile leather trench coat from The Kooples. It isn’t the sensible winter coat I had planned, but now means I have a solid theme for Autumn: international spy! I also need:

  • turtlenecks in black, grey, tan (to go under the coat)
  • a pair of black and a pair of blur straight-leg jeans (already have a pair of each but will be wearing them more in winter)
  • winter skirts?! No plan, just in mind
  • a pair of black flats, ideally pointy-toed
  • a pair of sensible-ish heeled boots with a dress up/dress down vibe
  • Warmer running tops
  • replacement running shoes as mine are wearing out fast

Apart from that I think I’m in a decent place. For the first time this year I appear to have thought about buying clothes that go with lots of things I already own, which is... unprecedented.

bendmeoverbackwards · 31/08/2020 11:09

I am also trying not to spend much as I have a lot of clothes from last year.

Question about jeans and footwear - what footwear do you wear with straight leg jeans? They don't work well with boots. Trainers?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2020 13:57

I need a couple jumpers , the right shade of beige , I will know it when I see it .
I have a few Indoor Scarves (for shame) that I'll see what goes with my jumpers .
I know , I am beyond help

I've been online browsing this afternoon.

I fancy a pair of black DM shoes (been thinking about these for a few years, but price puts me off. I normally wear trainers every day).

Also a winter midi dress (probs a Zara special), that can work as day or evening wear.

New jeans. I tend to buy jeans in the US, we generally visit once a year. Well, our trip this year was obviously cancelled, and we won't be able to go next Easter as DD has exams, so that nixes that idea. My problem is I'm very loyal to a particular brand and shape, that I can usually find in the US outlet malls, but are over £200 full price here 😭. Definitely not paying that. Even Levi's are so much more expensive here. Annoying. It really puts me off, but with jeans, I know what I like and like what I know...

StCharlotte · 31/08/2020 17:07

I changed jobs this time last year which resulted in a pay rise (hurrah!) but meant I needed to smarten up my work wardobe. It mostly consists of A-Line mini skirts snd shirts and sweaters with opaque tights and boots. I bought a gorgeous red mac from John Lewis just before lockdown so that will come into its own soon for a couple of months. I've plenty of coats and boots etc and I've back in the office for a few weeks.

I bought three tops and a skirt over the weekend but they're all casual with a bit of cosiness thrown in. I'm obviously expecting to spend more time on my sofa this A/W. I also bought a soft long hooded cardigan from Sainsbury's which will be nice as an extra layer when it gets really cold.

I do need some skinny trousers. I'm an apple with slim legs and I'm finding it really hard to get trousers that are tight enough on my legs. Also need a couple more sweaters for work and some bog standard leggings for slothing Grin

mamapants · 01/09/2020 10:36

I bought some basic long sleeve tops from Massimo Dutti, a denim shirt and a long black open cardigan. Bought some Chelsea Boots.
Ordered a few things from John Lewis to try. Will see how I get on. I'm buying a lot as am finally back to Pre baby weight (many years later) and nothing I have fits. Went out the other night and had nothing to wear.

mrslebon · 02/09/2020 22:36

I love new season stock! I’ve already bought and stashed a Frieda & Freddie’s navy parka. I’ve just ordered a Wyse long cardigan which was an obscene amount of money but (1) Klarna and (2) cost per wear will be v good I suspect. I have a check longline shacket thing on the way from Next and an Anine Bing rip off sweatshirt from Hush. Not keen on all the big bovver boots that are coming in - I’ll stick with trainers for now.
