I've bought a couple of bits
A navy leather biker jacket
Pair of faux leather trousers
(Think there is a leather theme going on here)
Has anyone else bought any bits yet?
Autumn is my fav season

I'm also trying to make a capsule / minimalist wardrobe and have a thread about it on here! It is really difficult and I don't honestly know why, because I've lived with just a handful of clothes before when I lived abroad, with no problems. But that was different, as I knew my clothes were all still there, just in a different country to where I was living.

I've been putting things into storage as a stop gap, but my loft is now filling up a bit. Might have to bite the bullet and get rid of them now, but in fear the Kondo regret!

JMAngel1 · 22/08/2020 13:53

Ahh yes the Kondo regret - I've been there.

Delatron · 22/08/2020 13:58

Does anyone think autumn stuff seems to be out late this year? I’m guessing shops were struggling to sell summer clothes but I normally start to see decent autumn clothes from mid August. I’m holding off for now as not seen anything and don’t want to do sales shopping...

LaGoulueRevenue · 22/08/2020 14:45

Same! Autumn/winter is my favourite time of year for dressing. And just in general.
The boredom of lockdown meant I had time to hunt down some things in the sales and I can't wait to wear it all now.
Off the top of my head I've got:
2 pairs of Fly booties
Chelsea boots
Grenson boots
Brogue boots from M&S
Rusty colour Vans
Burnt orange pleather skirt from Asos
Berry pleather skirt from Warehouse
A few shirts with dramatic collars to go under jumpers- in white and denim
Orange funnel neck French Connection jumper
Saint James mariner jumper
Missoni jumper
Topshop cream cardigan
Topshop jeans
Selected femme jeans

Still wanting:
A really nice black wool coat
Another cosy cardi
Tights
Socks

So easy done! Damn you Kondo Grin!
thebear1 · 22/08/2020 15:00

I would like a new black winter coat. I have a huge long padded number that I love, but it is like wearing a duvet so not good for evenings out or going in and out of buildings.

LaGoulueRevenue · 22/08/2020 15:06

Do you all put your spring/summer/tshirts away when it gets colder? I always want to free up my wardrobe space but those suction bag thingys look like they would wrinkle everything up.

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/08/2020 15:11

I have bought an oversized trench from Zara, a red waterproof jacket from rains, some jeans, chain necklaces in gold and silver, and these today... I live in faux leather trousers and hope these will be nice. I really don’t need anything else.

I’m looking for similar shades to @JMAngel1 and aiming to try some more tonal dressing with things I already have. I tried two body suits but the cut of the current ones just doesn’t suit me so I passed them on to my super slim DD and they are still too high on the leg and I have to remind her to pull her jeans up higher! I was thinking of a waist length &Other Stories it Sezanne style feminine cardi in those colours.

Also after some chunky boots but wondering if I should hold off on that if we’re going to be locally locked down? I do have some boots that would do! Equally flatform trainers or similar but if I’m not going out on a weekend....

Equally, a big cosy cardigan and socks for indoors.

haba · 22/08/2020 16:39

I have bought a pair of burgundy trousers for work. Had been planning to get them anyway but they were half price this morning, so grabbed them quickly.
A pair of mustard opaque tights (ever the big spender!) to wear with navy dresses (almost all my dresses are navy) and mustard cardigan which will.look v autumnal.
I want:
A really nice pair of biker boots in black
Tan DM Chelsea boots (probably the lined ones) or at least something I can wear with knee length dresses that aren't knee high boots? I don't find shoes warm enough or comfy enough.

Ginfordinner · 22/08/2020 17:17

Do all of you buy new clothes every season?
Are all of you back working in an office?
Don't any of you have clothes that last for several years?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/08/2020 17:35

@Ginfordinner I tend not to spend much on summer stuff because I live in Scotland and it is never very warm, but love buying new autumn and winter things. I’m equally excited about bringing down my vacuum packed knitwear, some of which is many years old, and pulling out my ancient faux fur coats.

I’m a lecturer and will be doing two days of face-to-face teaching in work, two days remote teaching - I only work four.

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/08/2020 17:36

I do, and I’m not, and I do... I enjoy clothes and getting dressed.

haba · 22/08/2020 17:38

Most of my clothes are ancient gin! Some were old before they even got to me Grin
I have one pair of boots, one pair of work shoes, walking sandals and a pair cheap trainers. Beautiful and stylish I am not.
But I have bought new trousers because some of my old ones have worn through. Tights don't last forever. Haven't bought any clothing since Jan (a work top in the post-christmas sales)

I have to go to my workplace every day from sept 2nd, despite my job being perfectly suited to WFH permanently. Sad

Yes, I do buy the odd new thing but have things for years.

I don't like the quality of a lot of the fashion now

Passthecake30 · 22/08/2020 17:41

I can’t think of anything I need at all - apart from new joggers and slippers for working at home. I can’t see myself going back to work (large public sector, open plan office) in autumn/winter, and I rarely go anywhere exciting (preteens).

LaGoulueRevenue · 22/08/2020 17:43

Gin
-Not always. I find a lot of my things can work for Spring as well as early Autumn, other than that I class S/S and A/W as just two seasons in sartorial terms
-No (?)
-Yes and I have some timeless pieces I look forward to wearing every year

nanbread · 22/08/2020 17:45

@XingMing

New wellies, but chelsea boot style... in white, with grippy black soles.

These sound very cool, can you tell me where from please?

hammeringinmyhead · 22/08/2020 17:46

I've been back in an office since early July, yes.

I always need new jeans as mine wear out between the thighs. T shirts bobble or get stained (toddler). I keep shoes and knitwear for a few years but I've just had to admit defeat on some ankle boots that I'd worn almost every day for 5 winters.

JMAngel1 · 22/08/2020 18:03

Speaking of Kondo regrets, I donated vintage 501s from my 20s last year.
I've just bid on an identical pair, same size, same wash, same red label, on ebay as I have a hankering for turning up the bottoms and wearing with high heels for nights out.
Bonkers!

@MulberryPeony
H&M are doing a good warm camel shade in some jumpers and bodies.
Chambray blue in anything other than a denim shirt is proving more tricky!
I can't find anything decent in dusky rose at all. It's frustrating.

Gin, yes I have lots if A\W clothes already, I've never stopped going to work. I nust love planning a new wardrobe each season. It doesn't have to be a lot of new items, just a few pieces to reinvigorate my wardrobe and give me a boost in the morning. I find monotony in clothing really flattens my mood so for me a small outlay is worth it. I'm currently scouring Ebay for my wishlist, fingers crossed.

Ellapaella · 22/08/2020 18:11

I've just bought a lovely winter coat in dark Ivy green from Hobbs and I've bought a jumper from Toast that I haven't worn much yet as is more of a winter jumper.
I don't really need anything else but haven't been tempted as I haven't seen many autumn collections yet. Still seems to be summer sales everywhere.

MynephewR · 22/08/2020 18:19

@Ginfordinner

Do all of you buy new clothes every season? Are all of you back working in an office? Don't any of you have clothes that last for several years?
Yes, there will always be something I need/want at the start of each season, usually a few things.

I wear a uniform for work but only work two days a week. I hate staying at home with the DC's so am always out and about, even just for a walk to the park.

Yes I do have clothes that I've had for years but generally stuff wears out, stains, bobbles etc. Also I have a terrible habit (as mentioned upthread) of buying things that are on trend, or don't suit me, or don't go with any other clothes I have, or are cheap quality. I do it on impulse and only wear them a few times. I am determined to stop doing this and buy less but better quality and carefully chosen. So if I need some new tops and I have £40 to spend, I would usually rush to the shops and buy 6 cheap tops that are crap quality. Now I will take my time and buy 2 decent quality tops that look good on me and can be worn with a few different outfits. It may seem common sense to most but I've always had the mindset of thinking quantity over quality and I need to get out of it.

Capsulate · 22/08/2020 18:23

Agree with the pp...I mean everyone has clothes which last several years or more. But those items won't wear out at exactly the same time. Nobody is buying a whole new wardrobe four times a year. That would be insane.

peaceanddove · 22/08/2020 18:31

So far, a midnight blue, teddy bear coat from Whistles.
2 cashmere sweaters from Wyse London.
2 pairs of coated biker jeans, in navy and black, from Next.

I'm seriously trying to curb my shopping as planning a tummy tuck in the near future, which should make me drop at least one dress size (carry all my weight on my tum).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/08/2020 18:40

I go through my wardrobe and take out anything I might wear next summer . Make sure they're clean then they go in Space Saver bags in the attic.

Get out the A/W clothes from the attic and be rithless . What doesn't fit . What have I put in there just because and I am not going to wear if I'm honest .

I'm wearing leggings and tops or dresses at the moment .

For A/W I have bought :
jeans -M&S , might buy a paler denim too.
I have three pairs of boots in the wardrobe - western, hiking and riding style . All M&S (non leather ) and beige/brown. So I don't need any more
Denim tunic top (Sainsbury)
Red blouse -Uniqlo
Green top - Uniqlo

I am looking for a new long padded coay . Got a navy one last year which I wore to death but it's ok still
I need a lightweight one but not feather/down.

I took a few pairs of shoes and some coats to the Charity Shop last year that would either break my ankle or boil me alive .

My go to is jumpers ( I love a jumper Grin ) but last year nought very few , they all seemed wide and boxy but short .

I;m not buying M&S Cashmillon again ( it pills ) or any Primark jumpers ( Chenille one got all pulled after 3 washes 2 wears . Looked like I'd let the cats claw at it )

I have a couple of Uniqlo 100% cotton cardigans but they need ironed each wash so I really have to decide if I can be bothered doing it .

Once I've sorted it all I;ll decide what gaps there are . I have a nice jacket which would really work with everything else black.

The hair is still going LockDown Grey . I'm having it cut in a couple of weeks so it'll look tidier .In the meantime , I'm going to step up the conditioning and use the Bleach London silver more so it doesnt go brassy .

Love Autumn Grin
