I've bought a couple of bits
A navy leather biker jacket
Pair of faux leather trousers
(Think there is a leather theme going on here)
Has anyone else bought any bits yet?
Autumn is my fav season

I've just ordered some bamboo socks and am on the lookout for a 'wear with everything' skirt.

Then, I am done! If you see me on here again after the skirt, chase me away please as I have enough now.

Jemimatheragdoll · 24/08/2020 11:56

Absolutely nothing wrong with faux leather at 58 notwavingbutdrowning5 ! I've just been looking at some leather joggers on the Hush website but they're £££ and will also be way too long
-am similar height to you and early 50's. Will look around for faux leather I think. A friend had the Mint Velvet ones last winter and they looked fab. Regrettably they'd sold out by the time I got my act together to buy a pair

Jemimatheragdoll · 24/08/2020 11:58

I keep forgetting about Brand Alley even though I've purchased a couple of Coach bags from there. Thanks for the reminder!

funtimefrank · 24/08/2020 13:05

I will pretty much be wfh so no need for much. I need a warm coat as my previous one bit the dust last year and I'd like some chunky tan leather boots but may ask for these as a birthday pressie.

My house does get cold though (dh hates the heating on) so I need some snuggly socks and a couple of warm jumpers. Only issue is I can't wear any kind of wool even cashmere without coming out in a massive rash. So any suggestions would be gratefully received. I have a comedy fleece referred to in the house as the wolf fleece but it's not flattering and has a hole in it.....

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 24/08/2020 13:58

Jemima, I googled Mint Velvet faux leather and found that JL had their leggings in DIFFERENT LENGTHS! This is very exciting.

I know that theoretically anything goes age-wise, but when you have a hypercritical teenage DD it can be hard to follow through. She can damn with a look!

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 24/08/2020 14:05

... and talking of faux leather ... I don't think I'm going to be rocking this particular look at any age.

Has anyone started shopping for autumn ?
achillesratty · 24/08/2020 14:29

I am mid 50's and just bought a new pair of real leather trousers and a pair of real leather "jeggings" with a fabric back.

I don't give a rats arse (I have a dozen of the fury little buggers so I am an expert on rat arses Grin) if some random person thinks I am too old to wear leather, I love it, it doesn't need ironing and always looks great. I pair it with an oversized wool sweater during the day and a silk shirt at night.

I am hankering after a new sweater preferably red or sapphire blue, so I am on the look out for that. I really don't need anything else.

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 24/08/2020 14:43

I had some faux leather trousers when my DC were toddlers, achilliesratty. They are the ultimate wipe-clean clothing, so perfect for sticky little hands. I think we tend to forget how immensely practical leather is - good point about being non-iron.

dollypopy · 24/08/2020 14:55

@Miseryisabutterfly they are 👌🏼

MabelMoo23 · 25/08/2020 09:37

I have the Mint Velvet faux leather leggings and they are fab! Love them

Lockdownhairdontcare · 25/08/2020 11:35

I have started the annual coat hunt... not being able to try things on is driving me insane!

So far I have purchased:
Knee high burgundy leather and suede boots
Black velvet ankle boots with a glittery heel
Dark denim flared jeans
Black spot long sleeve midi dress
Camel fitted jumper
Cream silk camisole
Black leather and suede handbag

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 25/08/2020 12:04

I'm still looking for the perfect navy jumper, I had one and it got destroyed this spring so am on the look out for that.

Also need a lovely warm wool winter coat for when it's hideous, but i want to be smarter than my big quilted coat thats like wearing a sleeping bag

If I don't lose the lockdown love handles, I need new work trousers, but that will have to wait until I can try things on.

tentative3 · 25/08/2020 15:43

@Oly4 I have this one, not sure if it fits the bill for you:

MitziK · 25/08/2020 16:29

I have. Mainly because I'm more of a fat bastard than ever following five months of wfh and part time in the office.

As every dress in my size is currently halfway up my arse and 'bodycon' (as if I need that) if it's a plain colour or, if it's a reasonable length, covered in a billion little flowers/leopardprint, polyester, so high neck I'd be able to tuck one of my chins into it for extra warmth and covered in nasty cheap, twisted dangly strips, bows and ruffles, I've bought two black skirts -

One is flared, below knee length and quite a heavy knit (so shouldn't blow around and flash my fat arse and thighs at the world), one is midi length, in a relatively floaty fabric with formed pleats.

I'm planning to wear the latter with some very low heeled ankle boots once wider fit ones are back in stock.

I've also bought (as a temporary measure) some popover shirts in as thick a fabric as I could get, mostly Ivory and one light sagey green that's got chiffony sleeves as an experiment. I wanted ones that looked like shirts, rather than shell tops.

I've also bought two new jumpers - one is a fine knit with slight oomph to the sleeves and one is a soft knit sleeveless jobbie for trying over the shirts when I wear them with trousers, as I have to sit right in a draught all day and I froze last winter, but I need to be able to have arms bare to the elbow. If it looks shit, well, I'll turn it into a cushion cover, as I'm sure the cats will love it.

I don't trust the opacity of the shirts, as quality has definitely gone down each time I've bought something in recent months, so I've also got a couple of nude/pink toned things for underneath.

I still have my lovely long tailored coat, a pair of long boots and I bought up a load of the largest size tights when they were still on sale.

I'll combine those with the various things I've already got that are very forgiving in size are still wearable and hopefully, being back at work full time will have a positive effect upon my weight, as I'll actually be burning off some calories, rather than just eating as few as I can tolerate and still putting on more. And I'm still hoping that gyms will be properly open, rather than only allowing you 45 minutes in the premises if you prebook a fortnight in advance, as the local one with a pool is doing at present. Then I'll get a bunch of supercheap capris and tops and a hoodie for coming home afterwards.

Basically, I'm trying for a cheap but smartish version of some of the things in Sezane. Because I don't intend upon staying this current size for long.

Oly4 · 25/08/2020 17:45

Tentative I love it and such a reasonable price!! Is it soft?

tentative3 · 25/08/2020 18:08

Yes, I'd say so. I ummed and ahhed for the best part of a year and was given it for Christmas last year in the end and was over the moon. The colour is fab.

dudsville · 26/08/2020 07:49

Yesterday I realised how much I'm going to miss summer clothing. During the pandemic I've been wfh and the comfort of wearing a dress is something I'll really miss.

Jemimatheragdoll · 26/08/2020 11:23

I like the look of those faux leather leggings notwavingbutdrowning - it's very frustrating having to nearly every pair of trousers shortened.

Ellapaella · 27/08/2020 19:05

I have the Mint Velvet faux leather leggings. They are ok but I prefer my Vila coated jeans as they are thicker and more forgiving and flattering around my bum.
I've actually just ordered another pair of coated jeans from Hush to try as I wore the ones I already have to death last winter. They look great with an oversized jumper or long cardigan and my DM's or black biker boots.

Oly4 · 27/08/2020 19:06

Dudsville, I agree but am planning on finding some knitted or sweatshirt dresses and wearing them with tights

slipperyeel · 27/08/2020 19:14

I’ve bought a toast cardigan and just ordered a cashmere jumper in the Brora sake.
I’ve also already got my new sheepskin slippers on.
I’ve got my eye on a new pair of DMs.

SlipsAndLols · 29/08/2020 18:37

Me! Although I've found that lots of shops aren't stocking Autumnal clothes yet.

So far I've just bought cardigans and jumpers from Abercrombie and Fitch and boots from Dune.

I'm looking for a really good quality wool coat but nothing like that is around at the moment.

Tbh I wish they would shift the school summer holidays forward so they get all of July off and the first week or so in August. I don't know whether the seasons have moved but this last week of August always feels like the start of Autumn and most of the good summer weather is in July.

SlipsAndLols · 29/08/2020 18:50

Oh yes and I'm waiting for a Sezane order to arrive.

To the PP who asked generally whether everyone needs new stuff my answer is: probably not, no. But I've got fast fashion garments that I've had for 20 years and still wear so I think it's ok to buy things as long as I will keep them and wear them and they won't end up in landfill.

I'm back in the office next week.

I often wear summer dresses to work in winter with a vest or long sleeved t-shirt underneath, thick tights, boots and a cardigan or jumper.

There isn't much in my wardrobe that would only be suitable for one season alone.

BrassicaBabe · 29/08/2020 19:11

@Ginfordinner

No. I have autumn clothes already, and since I am WFH for the foreseeable, and rarely go ut anyway there is no point in buying clothes I won't wear, and that no-one will see me in.
Totally get that! Working from home since March with no change for the foreseeable. Really, what do I need? Another stained dressing gown? I live in hope and continue to hang out in S&B 🤣
VioletCharlotte · 29/08/2020 19:18

I went into town today to have a look around and there doesn't seem to be much autumn stock available yet, much to my disappointment as I love buying autumn clothes!

This year I'm looking for -
A parka to replace my green one, which is 8 years old with a broken zip.
Some cherry red lace up boots (maybe DM's?)
A long, light grey soft ,cardigan
A smart coat, maybe burgundy
