Here Xing, just keep in mind they're still traditional Italians so the whimsy isn't as full on as the one Bani linked.

Oooh, aaah, such fabulous colours. I am in luurve. And have bookmarked.

MikeUniformMike · 30/09/2020 21:19

Bonsoir MNers. Quel size est-ce que 3 dans Isabel Marant Etoile, s'il vous plait? J'ai spotter une jacket sur ebay et je wonderais si'l me fitter ou non?

Pardonnez-vous mon crap franglais.

Redandblue11 · 30/09/2020 21:32

I have 3 masks Bo, that is an ok quantity. But I find myself wanting one or two more , and I was searching for something interesting too. But I didn’t get any further than just browsing.

Redandblue11 · 30/09/2020 21:36

Hi Mike I am guessing you are asking what size is a 3 in Isabelle Marant jacket as you saw one on eBay? I can just about guess French .,, reading only.
I am afraid I do not know. But I am sure someone else here will know Smile

botemp · 30/09/2020 21:44

I saw some Marni masks on Farfetch which I really like Red, but I don't €90 a piece like them Hmm I was thinking maybe 5? I've been matching them with coats but I'm thinking it would be nice to have ones that match my bags/shoes. I've seen some with tweed too, which I kind of like but wonder how pleasant those will be indoors with heating on...

Mike, depends how old it is. Does it have a black label with a sort of sketchy * star on it? Those fit pretty small, size is one is a small 6, two is a small 8, three will be a small 10, roughly, you'll have more range if it isn't very fitted. The newer cream label stuff is a little roomier but that 1-3 sizing is hardly used unless it's clothing that isn't very fitted and roughly translates to s,m,l but a French version, somewhat comparable to Mango/Zara sizes.

Merci beaucoup botemp. It's a cream label, with a *. It's a jacket and my guess was about size 12 or 14 - it's fine on my big shoulders but it did look roomy on me. I don't know what size I'd be in Mango Zara - a S or an M, I think.

I love all the glove porn Grin.

I agree it seems against the spirit of secondhand September to buy lots of it for the sake of it (yes, I know it's October now).

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 16:34

I like the silk trousers.

I'm up for some glove porn Grin. I've had a thing for needlecord recently and am having a dress made for me.

Redandblue11 · 01/10/2020 16:51

Needlecord? What is that ? Off to google needlecord dress...

Redandblue11 · 01/10/2020 16:52

I am not going to google glove porn though Shock

botemp · 01/10/2020 17:13

Sounds like someone who speaks from past experience Red Wink beware, I'm sure there's a kinky needlecord community out there if you take a wrong turn in your Google results 😬

I must admit I'm rather weak in the knees for these beauties from Paula Rowan. They're too scarily expensive though and apparently glove making is a niche that hasn't made it to YouTube, I could only find one crappy tutorial that was not very couture. I know traditionally it was a big part of couture (as it hardly has moved on since the 19th century) so my small library of books may have some more information.

Speaking of making things, Flo, I saw merchant and mills have some new patterns one of which is a boxy sort of top/dress.

red Grin, I have learnt not to Google lots of things that are suggested on mn.

botemp · 01/10/2020 18:49

Don't Google space docking, I didn't listen to MN and did and really wish I hadn't. Pretty sure it's urban dictionary fantasy and not an actual thing. Well that's how I'm able to sleep at night anyhow.

I just finished up watching the which was very interesting, also liked the presentation form where it just felt like you were people spotting in the streets (at first anyhow, wish the whole presentation had continued as such, I miss people watching Sad). Nothing boundary braking but it has a very home sewn vintage feel about it without feeling crafty. The colour palette is far too sophisticated to be mistaken as that but I'll be curious to see if the pieces stand up on their own. Choice of footwear was interesting too, bit orthopaedic but make it chic and not so orthopedist approved.

@Redandblue11, it's like corduroy but the ribs are smaller and thinner, and the fabric much lighter.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 19:09

Is it true that the french love tartan?

botemp · 01/10/2020 19:23

It's quite popular, yes, and other heritage fabrics too, like Harris Tweed but only the high quality good stuff.

At one period, my beloved grandmother sewed gloves, or so my DM tells me. I didn't believe her, as my grandma could barely sew on a button, yet apparently........ I think she was dodging the mending personally.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 21:41

Ooh la la, I'll try to look for some.
I'm not sure whether to go for shorter or longer. Feel free to advise.
I'm after a kilt in a tasteful tartan, but would consider tweed.

Have a peruse on Le Kilt, faux French, just Scottish (they should have just gone with Auld Alliance). Pricey, to put it mildly, unless you can fit into the Children's sizes but lovely tartan fabrics and creative spins on them as well as the more traditional versions. But most importantly, fitted well, not costumey which a lot of women in kilts tend to end up looking like.

Didn't you have some vague Dent gloves connection Xing, I remember you stopping by the factory store and mentioning something and then it descended into a who's who of 80s aristo gossip, something about Susanna, of Trinny& fame, dating royalty.

Ponchos are shite in the wind, I agree.

It must be relatively easy to cobble together sort of rustic leather gloves, the kind with seams on the outside? But finer things must use glue to a certain extent I'd have guessed. Probably there are pdf:s of lady magazines from 1902 that give instructions, at least how to repair which can go part way.

Those PR gloves are quite amazing. Def art, not wallpaper!

XingMing · 02/10/2020 09:53

I did visit the Dents factory outlet in Warminster and bought two pairs of gloves.. in olive suede and snakeskin, and elbow length black ones to wear with my great aunt's blanket-check vicuna... which has bracelet length sleeves. It is fabulously on trend this year, if it stops raining to wear it.

However, another autumn storm is lashing down and threatens 50mm of rain today, followed by a wet weekend, so today's style statement is Barbour and Berghaus... jacket, over-trousers with Ilse Jacobsen white wellies!

MikeUniformMike · 02/10/2020 11:51

Thanks bo, what a lovely site, I'd probably be a S or XS, but not kid size. Sadly, way beyond my budget.

I always thought that Dent's were from 'up north' - Cumbria, so I have learnt something.

XingMing · 02/10/2020 12:51

Pittards and Dents are in Somerset and Wiltshire, which were huge sheep/livestock areas from mediaeval days. Both have factory shops and both have some steals, and a lot of less wonderful items.

I'm sure there must be Cumbrian glovers, too, but I'm not aware of any.

MikeUniformMike · 02/10/2020 14:03

I think it is a northern surname.

Decades ago I went to a Mulberry factory shop in Shepton Mallet
