What do people think of Fat Face clothes?

BoogleMcGroogle · 18/07/2020 10:45

I've always assumed that my Fat Face clothes ( of which I have quite a few, owing to affordability and comfort) aren't the most stylish items in my wardrobe. However, I've just realised that they are the things that get the most compliments ( white popover shirt and chino shorts, a floral maxi dress). My more (as I see it) stylish efforts ( silk shirts and skinny jeans, blazers, shiny brogues) go largely uncommented on.

I keep reading it's a frumpy label. Maybe I just suit frump? Anyone else actually quite like their clothes?

I bought a shirt there last week for half price and I love the fabric and fit. I have denim shorts which have seen me through a few summers and a couple of dresses. I like their clothes they are comfortable and casual. I definitely wouldn't describe my look as frumpy. I am mostly in Sweaty Betty at weekends or suits or dresses for work and I wouldn't wear it on a night out but handy for holidays and day wear when not at work but don't want to wear yoga pants.

I like Fat Face but am quite careful with what I buy. I like their camis and dresses, but steer away from the fussy prints. Having said that, I do that in any shop. I've got a really nice chambray dress that can be worn off the shoulder that I picked up in their sale just as I was going away on holiday. Looks great with trainers. I lived in it whilst I was away and it got compliments every time. DH is very fond of their t-shirts.

They didn't seem to have much of a sale this year

I really dislike their clothing - too patterned for my taste. I also dislike the washed out colours they often use. The clothing smacks of ‘don’t look at me, I want to be invisible’. I’m a middle aged, middle class professional and would not wear their clothes.

I popped into a store a couple of days ago and a lot of stock was reduced. Think they might be struggling.

I've been in for a browse a couple of times and seen a few things I liked the look of but they aren't for short people so I've never bought anything!

I feel like the quality is pretty good for the price point (although admittedly I buy most of it in the sale), and I have skirts from about 10 years ago that I still wear as they are in good condition; I don't find that with many other brands. I don't find a lot of it is my style, and for me I find some of the shapes quite unflattering, but thinking about it, people ask mostly where I bought something if it's FF.

Yes, not much on their website

Hope they are still around but they are expensive

I like Fat Face and their cotton blouses are a staple in my summer wardrobe. I don't think I look frumpy. Of course you aren't likely to love everything they do, just like anywhere but it's a good place to go to get a nice casual top or dress if you need one. Maybe it is a bit middle aged, I went in once in my 20s and walked back out again. Decided to have a look in my late 30s and came out with a bagful of stuff.

I've got a couple of things from there that I love. Their fabrics are getting worse and worse though, and quality is variable.

I hate the words 'mumsy' and 'frumpy' - clothes are not ever either of those things. I tend to wear my Fatface dresses with ankle boots and a biker jacket. I also like their white cotton summer tops for wearing with denim shorts.

I do wish they would: improve their fabrics (too much scratchy viscose), sort out their sizing (I can be anything from a 10 to a 16 in there), be more reliable with quality, do more things in black!

I can only wear natural fabrics. So I love fat face. But I'm knocking on, so...

I bought the FF Tabitha jumpsuit for summer, the fit is great and the neckline's a bit daring to be considered frumpy (speaking as a 36HH). I rocked the look with a FF denim jacket and Teva Mahonia leather sandals 😁 and got compliments/nice comments on all 3 items. I dont think its always what you wear, it's how you wear things that make outfits frumpy.

I think being overweight is difficult with FF. When I was thin, it looked fine - just another shop.
Now I'm definitely overweight, it is a killer on me, as is many other labels. I now avoid.

I am firmly in that demographic too. I was surprised to find the look was international Smile

However as a fat person I would agree with NOTANUM it just doesn't work on the overweight Sad My thin colleagues - great. Fat me - dreadful.

I occasionally buy from fat face mainly cotton tees and recently two pairs of their dungarees. I have some lovely linen trousers from there too. I pretty much only buy natural fabrics. Frumpy is a word used to deride older women and I don't use it but I know exactly what you mean. People always label others but you don't need to be drawn into it

I think it's a 'dads & mums' or older teenager shop of which I not so I don't ever shop there.
The unstructured washed out style doesn't suit me, but I do like that they use cotton a lot (I pop into the Heathrow shop sometimes to browse when killing time waiting for fights).

I'm would think it won't survive COVID, or will just move online only?

I like their stuff.
They’ve come such a long way. Back in the 90s they were selling out of cardboard boxes through reps on ski trips. I bought my first rugby style top then, and at the time thought it was a bit steep but that thing lasted for years and years and I loved it!

I love Fat Face. My favorite brand. But I only shop the sales or buy pieces in TK Maxx.

I've got some amazingly good quality unisex combat trousers from there that I bought in the 90s. They don't seem to do anything in black or grey anymore though and everything seems to be in acceptable muted tones - probably the sort of middle aged mum look that I should be sporting!

Sat here in my fat face jumper and sneakers .
Love it , I'm 43 , don't feel frumpy wearing it.
Not much in the sales though which is a shame.
Love joe browns as well, but shame about JB quality.

I found this thread from 2011 in my search to find out what Frumpy is and its quite amusing, talking about calf length skirts when the midi length has been in for what seems to be far far too long recently.

I really like fat face but its too expensive for me, I used to treat myself to something in my 20's at the airport (always seemed to be one in the airports). I like that kind of casual surfy vibe.

@GrimSisters they used to do the best combats back then, I've just picked up some similar ones to what I had then on ebay which I'm excited about :)

ive only got one item from fat face and its a denim jacket. I get compliments on it all the time. The only reason i dont shop there is because i forget about it. im sure they have some nice pieces

In my 20s I loved fat Face, they used to do lovely shaped dresses but now I find it's all a bit baggy and shapeless. There is also the worry that you want to look like you've just stepped off your yacht. Boat shoes and a cork keyring type look. Great if you have a yacht. If you don't you just look silly.

I avoid their prints (too mumsy) but their plain 100% cotton basics and jeans are brilliant. Amazing quality wash after wash. And their long sleeve Bretons wash up beautifully
