What do people think of Fat Face clothes?

BoogleMcGroogle · 18/07/2020 10:45

I've always assumed that my Fat Face clothes ( of which I have quite a few, owing to affordability and comfort) aren't the most stylish items in my wardrobe. However, I've just realised that they are the things that get the most compliments ( white popover shirt and chino shorts, a floral maxi dress). My more (as I see it) stylish efforts ( silk shirts and skinny jeans, blazers, shiny brogues) go largely uncommented on.

I keep reading it's a frumpy label. Maybe I just suit frump? Anyone else actually quite like their clothes?

I wouldn't call Fat Face "frumpy" but any clothes I try from there make me look frumpy if that makes sense? They look fine on others though.

For me frumpy is about how clothes look on a person - an inch too long on the skirt or a top for example, or half a size too big. Tops in particular I find can make me look frumpy - I'm short bodied so a slightly longer top can look almost like a tunic on me and just doesn't work.

welldonesquirrels · 18/07/2020 17:12

I think they're a bit expensive full price but good for basics. I wear a lot of their jeans and plain tops and have a couple of dresses, but tend to avoid the prints, not my taste. They use gorgeous quality fabric and their stuff is well made and they cater for tall people, which I am. And as far as I've been able to see, their business practices are fairly sustainable and ethical.

My main major issue with Fat Face is that there is absolutely no consistency with sizing. I've seriously never known a brand with such crazy unpredictable sizing, it literally varies from item to item and it means that it's basically impossible to shop online, because you have to try everything on.

coronabeer23 · 18/07/2020 17:20

I have just had another look to see if I had missed something and I am afraid I think it’s awful. Just dull, bland and ubiquitous.

SarahBellam · 18/07/2020 17:35

It looks like you’ve given up and gone to live on a farm. It does on me anyway.

PeskyRooks · 18/07/2020 17:57

Grin SarahBellam
There's a lot to be said for giving up and going to live on a farm!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/07/2020 17:58

I just looked and it's not looking great at the moment - lots of very dull blue. But occasionally it does something lovely.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2020 17:59

I've got loads of it - some of it is really Toast like

I also love the natural fibres. My favourite top is from there, people stop me in the street and ask where I got it (in the sale, about £14) - I've washed it at least 20 times, looks like new

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 18/07/2020 18:03

I have quite a lot of fat face stuff. The first thing I bought was a few years ago and grabbed it in a sale while I was buying stuff for ds and now often look there for stuff. I don’t think it is frumpy I’m never sure where that comes from I like the fit and the quality and I also get compliments on things from there.

Autviaminveniamautfaciam · 18/07/2020 18:43

No, do not like FF at all. A lot of their summer stuff looks like it is straight out of a Bangkok market. I kid you not. These flimsy dresses and cotton pants with Tigers etc. on them would cost you 3 quid in Thailand. It's a rip off.

foxtiger · 18/07/2020 22:26

I really love their stuff but have not bought anything from them for a long time because (a) it's a bit out of my usual price range (b) there isn't one in my town. I love the colours and always really like the look of the sleepwear, although I would never spend more than Primark/George prices for sleepwear because what's the point? If I was rich I'd have lots of their PJs and fluffy socks. The only problem I have with their clothes, and this is going back a few years, is that on the rare occasions when my DC or I had t-shirts and sweatshirts from there, they leaked colour really badly for the first few washes. I've also had a lightweight cotton dress that didn't have that problem.

TheFaerieQueene · 18/07/2020 22:28

I think they are sludgy coloured dull styles.

pleasenonotagain · 18/07/2020 22:36

I like Fat Face and their cotton blouses are a staple in my summer wardrobe.

Tell me about these!!

abstractzebra · 18/07/2020 23:07

Their foundation shop is just around the corner from my home.
I hardly ever go in there and even discounted, I think they are expensive.
I have bought one nice winter scarf 🧣

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/07/2020 11:25

I did just buy a black leather tote bag half price in the sale - £44 instead of £89. I also think their boots can be quite nice and their jewellery. Like most shops, there are gems and dross and you just have to be selective.

onemouseplace · 19/07/2020 16:18

I loved Fat Face in my late teens/ early twenties (I had several of the rugby style tops). Then I didn't set foot in there for years, until last year when I needed an emergency pair of shorts when I was away - and got a really nice, comfortable pair of navy linen-style shorts in the sale.

Turkeydrumstick · 19/07/2020 16:30

I love fat face, the fabric in the dresses is always lovely and soft. I’m a size 14 hourglass so the cut is always flattering for me as they tend to be well nipped in at the waist (do find the sizes big though so have to get a 12). I also love the cardigans even though I know they make me look frumpy (I don’t care!).

Bluntness100 · 19/07/2020 16:37

I also think it depends on age here I’m afraid. On late teens early twenties it can be cool, when you hit your forties and maybe aren’t sylph like any more it can look shapeless and dumpy.

notacooldad · 19/07/2020 16:41

What is 'frumpy'?
Unfashionable, drab and dowdy sense of style that is not flattering.

I used to like FatFace about 25 years ago and had some great clothes from them but over the last 5 maybe 10 years it has become a bit bland and not really inspiring. Which is a shame really.

nitgel · 19/07/2020 16:50

I love their scarves anid bags and the suede ankle boots. Also the the pima cotton t shirts. I wish they would do nicer patterned shirts.

Skyshale · 17/12/2020 20:14

I absolutely love FatFace. The clothes fit my figure nicely and quality is always good/clothes wash well (in my experience anyway). Only problem is it is expensive - but that reflects in the quality of their products I think.

evilharpy · 18/12/2020 00:15

Fat Face clothes don't suit me at all, they're just not my style. That said, I do have a couple of fair isle type jumpers from there. Generally I go for darker/neutral colours, am not a fan of pattern or little buttons and bits of lace and like clean lines, and none of it looks right on me.

EnPoinsettia · 18/12/2020 05:48

I think it’s fine in small doses. Like a lot of things it’s when it’s worn head to toe it gets a bit unimaginative.

So it’s a place that’s worth a look for the odd thing. I’ve had a couple of good summer dresses from them, simple cotton, nothing fussy but ends up getting worn a lot . DH has had some good finds in there too- a lovely checked shirt, some baelayers. The colours often suit him.

Bluesheep8 · 18/12/2020 09:46

You will look like a white middle class social worker/doctor.

Eh? I've got a few FF things and this description certainly doesn't fit me Smile

ballroompink · 18/12/2020 10:10

I like some of their stuff but it tends to be the plainer stuff - not keen on the patterns. Also not keen on the amount of viscose used! Unfortunately I think their cuts are often a bit off. I'm thin but curvy on the waist and hips and I find the waists too roomy and feel that the hips in trousers could maybe do with an inch more room.

EnPoinsettia · 18/12/2020 11:50

That’s just the exact opposite of me @ballroompink Fat face is one of the few places I can buy something that fits over the bust without utterly swamping my lower half.
