What do people think of Fat Face clothes?

I've always assumed that my Fat Face clothes ( of which I have quite a few, owing to affordability and comfort) aren't the most stylish items in my wardrobe. However, I've just realised that they are the things that get the most compliments ( white popover shirt and chino shorts, a floral maxi dress). My more (as I see it) stylish efforts ( silk shirts and skinny jeans, blazers, shiny brogues) go largely uncommented on.

I keep reading it's a frumpy label. Maybe I just suit frump? Anyone else actually quite like their clothes?

I like them. I’ve got some comfy basics (shorts, plain t shirts etc) and some really lovely dresses that I get lots of compliments for. Expensive full price though.

They're flattering and reflect my personal style. For everyday casual wear they are probably the nicer things I have

I think they get compliments because they are often a nice pattern but I do think frumpy and mumsy to be honest.

I'm glad it's not just me! I like the fact that they still use natural fibres. Even more expensive brands can use so many cheap synthetics now (Boden 🤨)

I like Fatface for casual stuff. It suits my body shape, age and lifestyle. It does have a frumpy label bug i don't care! I feel comfortable and confident wearing it, it washes well and lasts. I think its neither fashionable or unfashionable tbh.

I love Fat Face clothes, but I know on here everyone seems to hate them and deride them as mumsy.

If you like them, wear them. You don't have to look like you've stepped out of Vogue.

I like some of their stuff but the quality can be very variable and they are not helpful about that.

I am not a style icon, however...

I like some of the fabrics and that kind of slouchy, laid back vibe, but I don't think they're well cut or well made and that lets them down.

cheetahfajita My children follow me about like a swarm of amphetamine-addled bees. I'd look mumsy in a good lame thong bikini 😆 I gave into mumsy years ago, although I do try to veer towards parisienne maman in my more stylish moments.

What is 'frumpy'?

livingdeadgirl I don't know really, that's why I'm asking, and I don't even know of it's a 'bad' thing to look. I do know that neighbour's 19 year old daughter doesn't look frumpy in Fat Face clothes, she looks like she's just stepped out of a Beach Boys song.

I always thought it was an unkind way to talk about an overweight person until I joined mumsnet but I still dont know what it is exactly.

I think it’s boring, unfashionable clothing. Almost exclusively applied to women.

PurpleDaisies uh oh- that'll be me then 😆 I could not name a single fashion trend after 2001. Except the dreaded cold-shoulder top which I swiftly rejected on practical grounds ( couldn't work out how to synthesise with a cardi). I do buy good quality clothes and take care to put outfits together, but they are definitely boring and never fashionable.

Frumpy= cheerless clothes worn for function not for aesthetic.

I like it and their tops are pretty particularly the camisoles

I once was lost in Europe looking for my conference venue. I spotted a woman meeting the above description, clearly wearing Fatface and followed her - straight to the conference we were both going to

It's like a uniform.

I like fatface, they suit my shape and get quite a lot of complements. I have to carefully not buy the things that make me look matronly or mumsy but one has to avoid things that don't suit you in every shop.

I like their clothes but I think you can fall into the trap of frumpy or frilly or mumsy or whatever you want to call it if you pick the wrong things from there. Some of their prints are really fussy, overly floral, veering on twee whilst others are a bit more classic and bold. I also think they are expensive at full price and are only worth a visit in the sale.

AnnaMagnani I am a white, middle class woman in a very similar profession. Although I've never knowingly worn Fat Face clothes to work. At work, it's a Boden ottoman dress or Richmond trousers, Ravello top and blazer. But now you come to mention it, several of my colleagues dress very Fat Facey.

I love Fat Face! I've got a lot of their tops that are anything but mumsy.
Trouser-wise, I'm only 5ft so don't even try... Plus I love their men's shirts.
Went in there on Thursday & all the racks & shelves were full & all at half price. Heaven!!

I think it depends how old you are. On the young - slightly hippy, beachy surfer vibe. On someone in their 50s like me, mumsy and frumpy. Some 50 somethings can probably carry it off, but not most.

I'm in that demographic and possibly look frumpy but so be it😊
