Really slow refunds for online returns

Sorry, I think there may have been another thread about this... but I am getting slightly concerned about the lack of refunds for things I have returned.

It was mainly stuff we had ordered for teen dd and I had returned two separate packages to Urban Outfitters and got refunds after only a few days. But everything else - H&M, &Other Stories, Lululemon - I have heard anything - not even an acknowledgement of receipt of the items... it’s been 2 or 3 weeks.

Anyone else had this problem?

I am having problems with QVC, sent a return back and they signed for it on 11 June, nearly a month ago and still no refund. They deny receiving it despite me having both proof of postage and a signed for proof of delivery. They are making me sign all sorts of declarations, to say I have really sent it back. I am not happy.

I sent a return to ASOS the same day and got a refund within 4 days.

Notcontent · 07/07/2020 23:48

Oh, no - hope you manage to get it sorted out.

It’s really annoying. I think I will wait another week and then follow up on them all. That will be fun...

Yes I'm waiting for acknowledgement from H&M and White Stuff, returned things a month or more ago now. Not sure what I've done with receipts either, need to dig them out. Worrying.

123rd · 08/07/2020 00:32

Yes J D Sports! Took 2 months to refund. I waited a month before chasing . Tweeted them they promised the refund ASAP, then 5 more days, then 3 more days etc. Then I threatened to involve my bank and the 'ombudsman'Confused and miraculously... next working day I had my refund

Maisiecow · 08/07/2020 08:08

Yep, been waiting 3 weeks for H&M refund and just over 2 for refund from Boden. I’ve previously (during Covid) sent things back to H&M and Next and in both cases refunds took about 4 weeks! It’s put me off online shopping, but then I assume refunds will still take ages even when returned to shops? I should really just stop shopping.

Almahart · 08/07/2020 09:52

Yes me - nothing from H&M and can't get through to them. Also can't find proof of postage which I will be really careful about next time

Sooverthemill · 08/07/2020 10:32

I've bought and retuned stuff just as normal during Covid and I thunk returns are in general taking twice as long as usual.,what I've done several times is email customer services and attached a photo of my proof of posting and asked them to refund based on that. Most of them have but these are retailers I buy from regularly. H&M and John Lewis I always return via Hermes

ilovecherries · 08/07/2020 12:20

Yes, I would say about twice as long. It’s annoying to be out of pocket for so long, but can understand the delay if they are working at half capacity because of distancing. I had an H&M one that was three weeks to the day last week, and even the normally very fast Boden took over two weeks.

Baaaahhhhh · 08/07/2020 12:29

My worst recent experience was with Hollister. DD bought a top, full price, with added delivery charges. They then charged her £9 to return it, even though you couldn't return to store. I emailed them to say I thought that was mean spirited as most retailers are offering free delivery and free return, and they basically said suck it up. Not shopping there again, gits. Oh, and she hasn't had the balance of the refund yet, even though they acknowledged receipt.

Saurus72 · 08/07/2020 13:00

H&M, Cos, & Other Stories (all part of the same group) are dreadful at returns. I ordered and returned from Cos and Stories (mainly because their sizing is way off - both things huge) and the refund took about 1 month. Really don’t think I will shop online with them again.

FreakStar · 08/07/2020 13:51

And Other Stories have form for not refunding me in the past. I waited four weeks before, and this was long before corona virus existed. In the end I had to ring them.

I sent something back to them two weeks ago and nothing yet- I would ring after 3 weeks.

beargrass · 08/07/2020 13:56

I've waited a long time for some places before lockdown! (Espirit, Ralph Lauren) I do now make sure I check before I order.

huuunderickssss · 08/07/2020 13:57

Everything is taking at the moment , just call them .

I forgot. I've also rung up before (I'm not sure which of two other places this was so won't hazard a guess) to ask where my refund is. That got things moving more quickly. Again, that was before lockdown.
Gingercatlover · 08/07/2020 13:58

I had problems with H&M, they didn't refund a dress that was returned with other items, really hard work getting hold of someone.
Eventually spike to someone via Messenger and got a refund but took five weeks.

Since then I have sent other stuff back and it took four weeks, only find out they had refunded when cc bill arrived as I had no communication from them.

Also had a nightmare with M&S and Next who only seem to refund when you contact them.

It's really frustrating and time consuming.

Rosesarere · 08/07/2020 13:58

I have this with topshop, never automatically refunds, I always have to call and chase.

bilbodog · 08/07/2020 14:00

Ive been waiting for laura ashley to contact me about some outdoor lights which are broken for 8 weeks - so far only robotic email replies!

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/07/2020 14:02

Yes I've had this but have got them all eventually. Ve come to accept it when I'm ordering, the fact it will be slow to come back.

They must be absolutely inundated and also there is the need to presumably leave the parcels to one side for a few working days due to covid to bear in mind.

My longest wait so far has been 3 weeks, for an M&S refund. I was on the cusp of emailing but it turned up this morning. Everything else has been about 2 weeks. Only Amazon are the exception for me, they've refunded as soon as the parcel is signed in at the PO, as usual.

AnneOfCleavage · 08/07/2020 14:04

Ginger was that online H&M return or did you physically go into the store to return. Returned items to H&M today in store and so wondering how quickly they'll refund my card.

DD bought over £120 worth of clothes from She/n (Sheln / Shein not sure how to write it) and has returned c.£50 worth using the online return (they charge £2.50 to your account for returns under a certain weight which this was) and we took it to the PO. This was over 3 weeks ago and no email to say it's been accepted and no refund. Not sure how to contact them as DD did it all on her phone.

Minkies13 · 08/07/2020 14:12

Returned some shoes to Veja 3 weeks ago and not been refunded or even had notification that they've received the items. I've even messaged them and had no reply.

Ellapaella · 08/07/2020 16:50

Yes everywhere I've returned to recently has been slow. Sezane, FatFace and M&S. As soon as I've emailed with the tracking details to show it's even delivered I've had a refund within 24 hours though so it's worth maybe dropping an email if you've been waiting ages. There are so many sales on right now I imagine it's super busy.

bookish83 · 08/07/2020 16:53

I've found asos to be quicker than normal but H&M always a bit slow. Check your bank for H&M as when they refund me I don't always get an email, just the money in my account!

M&S I do returns late on in the day as our local one is handy for parking. It is so quiet but other than that don't go in the shops x

527040minutes · 08/07/2020 17:08

I returned a faulty item to studio in April. Hermes lost it. Studio had arranged the courier with it being faulty, I'm still fighting for a refund. Multiple letters sent, official complaints, etc... it's on my credit account with them so I'll be involving the ombudsman if they don't get it sorted.

Vegasdreaming27 · 08/07/2020 18:29

I waited 3 weeks for a refund from H&M and it just turned up on my card, no email to say it had been refunded. I sent 3 parcels back recently to H&M and other stories and so far have had an email for 1 of the stories parcels so hoping the other 2 turn up soon. ASOS have been pretty good. I send something back to Joanie clothing last week and got an email today so seems normal with them.

Richlyfruited · 08/07/2020 18:50

M&S seem to be struggling. Waited 3 weeks for a refund and had to contact them then waited another 3 days for a reply! Ordered from them again and now over a week has passed and not yet despatched.

John Lewis has been really quick for me both on despatch and a refund for an item that was broken on arrival.

I am finding online shopping so frustrating so am only ordering when I really need something!
