Really slow refunds for online returns

Sorry, I think there may have been another thread about this... but I am getting slightly concerned about the lack of refunds for things I have returned.

It was mainly stuff we had ordered for teen dd and I had returned two separate packages to Urban Outfitters and got refunds after only a few days. But everything else - H&M, &Other Stories, Lululemon - I have heard anything - not even an acknowledgement of receipt of the items... it’s been 2 or 3 weeks.

Anyone else had this problem?

I can tell you that Amazon are being really crap at refunding when returned through Hermes - I've had to chase using the chat thingy a few times but they have then come good. The trick is to return via Royal Mail - the minute it's scanned in at the post office, they do an auto refund so I've sometimes had the item refunded before I've got back from the post office. Never Hermes always RM!

Gah81 · 08/07/2020 19:17

Baukjen usually take a while but since Covid it has been several weeks between posting something and then getting an acknowledgement/notice I will be getting a refund.

It has put me off ordering anything in the Baukjen sale!

NowIKnowWhataTVDinnerFeelsLike · 08/07/2020 19:43

Over 3 weeks from h&m here and not a sausage. Hermes say it's delivered so I'm going to give it another week or so then chase. Frustrating but reassuring to hear I'm not alone!

It's store policy to hang onto both your cash and the items as long as possible - good for their finances.

Until it puts people off buying from you = bad for their finances.
Sooverthemill · 09/07/2020 14:24

@Supersimkin2 which store? I've not had issues with most places even during lockdown. Had a bit of a barney with free people but that got sorted out by tweeting them and getting away from their automated email reply system. I would think that the retailers who have extended returns, increased ways of sending stuff back ( eg courier collection) and been kind to their staff would be sensible about refunding customers. Often it's simply human error or people not being able to,log in to systems or speak to supervisors. Everyone has had to cope with pretty unusual work lives recently.

trumpisaflump · 09/07/2020 17:27

I've noticed this with And Other Stories too. I need to keep track of what I return and when I get refunded. Any good ideas for how to do this?

Sooverthemill · 09/07/2020 21:33

@trumpisaflump maybe set up a diary note on your phone the day you return and a reminder 5 days later to check? And repeat! I keep all my proof of posting or hermes collection receipts in a pocket in my diary in date order (/ I shop a lot online) And I go through once a week to check. I'm anal like that

trumpisaflump · 09/07/2020 22:05

@Sooverthemill I need to do that thanks. I buy tons online so I really need to keep a better eye on refunds

neveradullmoment99 · 09/07/2020 23:23

Asos can be really slow. Cos have been ridiculous. I am also waiting for a return from John Lewis who are usually fast. They are taking an age.

TooGood2BeTrue · 10/07/2020 00:08

I've been waiting for a refund for a faulty item from John Lewis for over 3 weeks. They are passing me from pillar to post even though I provided all the necessary documentation in the first email. Think I will just take it to the store this weekend and try my luck there.

Alwaysinpain · 10/07/2020 00:44

Yes! With Skechers.2 weeks since the parcel arrived back with them and still nothing

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/07/2020 06:36

I've posted one to H&M just as stores reopened. I've received a refund after 2 weeks for 1 of the 2 items in the box. How do you even get to speak to a real person about it anyway? I just got a "bot"

BlackSwan · 10/07/2020 06:47

Yes both with small and large businesses.
Also things not being delivered at all but being charged anyway... I keep a list of what’s arrived / returned and any refunds I’m waiting on.
I’m certain that done businesses are taking advantage of consumer forgetfulness and apathy

Ifonlyiweretaller · 10/07/2020 11:14

I've had lots of issues with refunds. I keep track of all my (many!) purchases so I can check the refunds have gone in, because as @BlackSwan says, I'm not convinced some of them aren't hoping we wont notice! Currently chasing up Lulu Lemon, Moutain Warehouse and BrandAlley.

peachypetite · 15/07/2020 08:27

M&S are taking forever to return and to dispatch.

Notcontent · 15/07/2020 10:03

It’s over a week since I first started this thread and I have not had any of the refunds I am waiting for. It’s actually really upsetting as it’s been weeks and in total it’s a lot of money... I don’t think I will be ordering any clothes online for some time!!!

Same problems here with Hush, Fat Face and even Boden (who are normally pretty quick).

lindyloo57 · 15/07/2020 17:17

I phoned pandora today, sent it back on 3/7/ 20 did tracking with post office it said it was returned to them on the 7 / 7 / 20 still waiting for the refund, she did say things are taking longer as there are so many returns. I know it know its it's only a week but if they recieved it on the 7 July why am I still waiting for the confirmation.

islockdownoveryet · 15/07/2020 17:25

I'm waiting for H&M and shein it's been 2 weeks . Shein I'd expect but I'd thought H&M would of at least acknowledged my return by now .
I'll give it till the end of the week and email them .

huuunderickssss · 15/07/2020 18:13

I use Klarna where I can do it's not real money until you decide what to keep .. then there is no stress waiting for refunds .. h and m , asos and Dorothy Perkins among others all use it .

huuunderickssss · 15/07/2020 18:14

Or my next account .. I just pay it straight away when I decide what I'm keeping . No real money involved 🤷‍♀️

bookish83 · 15/07/2020 18:35

@islockdownoveryet

H&M didn't acknowledge mine but the money went in my bank without telling me! Took 2-3 weeks for 2 parcels.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 15/07/2020 20:43

Am also finding John Lewis slow. Returned item to Waitrose and still haven't had a confirmation email so have no proof that I actually returned it.

AllTheProsecco · 15/07/2020 20:48

Also having slow returns...

Weirdly, I sent an entire order back to H&M and they've refunded part of it but not all. And another order they've refunded something that never even made it to me.
