Yorkshirelass, quick, pinch yourself and check you still have sensations in your body. Hate to tell you, but it sounds like you might possibly have died and transfigurations to heaven overnight. 😂

Moominmammaatsea · 28/06/2020 13:23

Should have said ‘transfigurated’ - silly autocorrect alert.

applecatchers36 · 28/06/2020 14:10

Did an order recently and am keeping the Seiko ikat blue wrap dress. It's easy to wear and very comfortable. Lots of fabric, soft and hangs well. Cool and airy in warmer weather. Also keeping the Grace large check cotton skirt think it will be versatile for Autumn / Spring with the print and could wear with a tight jumper or jacket. In the sale was only £50. Have sent back the lime linen kaftan/ smock dress as although beautifully made, the colour wasn't right on me.

Beautiful dress, apple. Really suits you.

Moominmammaatsea · 28/06/2020 15:18

apple, the dress looks stunning on you - I have it too but I’ve only worn it once (on my birthday). I love it but I think it will be more of a slow-burner for me (I felt a bit self-conscious about the volume of fabric in the lower half, but I may be worrying excessively as I can’t see that it looks to full-skirted on you at all).

cherries I forgot to mention yesterday how flattering the linen drawstring trousers look on you.

applecatchers36 · 28/06/2020 15:31

Thank you ladies Smile agree it is a slow burner Moomin I nearly sent it back as was also thinking it was too much fabric and drowned my frame was worried I was too short and it need a taller wearer but have actually worn it loads more than I thought I would.

That's sometimes the way with Toast I find you grow to love them after initial doubts. ..

I know exactly what you mean. I don’t think I’ve regretted anything I’ve kept from Toast but there ARE things I’ve sent back that I find myself wishing I’d hung on to. A current example are the linen pull on trousers. I sent for them at the beginning of lockdown, but decided they were a ridiculous price (£85, and I rarely buy toast outside the sale), and that linen trousers were two a penny on the high street. Since then I’ve ordered and returned linen trousers from Next, M&S and Uniqlo, all priced under £25, and all wrong in one way or another. Plus I’m asking myself how realistic it really is to expect linen trousers to be so cheap. I’m going to end up re-ordering, amn’t I? I think that’s also why I’m reluctant to send the kala dress back. I think I know I just need time to bond with it properly ...

It looks beautiful apple. I seem to remember someone saying they’d put a dress they weren’t sure about in the back of the wardrobe and loved it when it was rediscovered. My mum had a policy of “retiring” things for a bit and falling in love with them all over again after a couple of years.

Moominmammaatsea · 28/06/2020 17:13

Alsohuman, it was me who told the story of my olive green The-Handmaid’s-Tale frock, which I rediscovered after 3 (I think) years. I think I’m going to learn from my previous experience and let myself ‘grow’ into the Ikat dress.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 28/06/2020 17:25

@applecatchers36

It looks lovely on you! I have this dress and no qualms at all about the fullness of the skirt. I am very comfortable wearing the loudest, crazily printed, full skirted of Toast dresses though. I wear very sober work clothing and care not a jot what anyone thinks when I’m off duty. Enjoy your dress! Smile

Railingsohno · 28/06/2020 17:27

@ilovecherries is it the blue and black check one you’re not sure of? How do you feel in it? Can you later it over a shirt/blouse? Tan belt sounds good.

@applecatchers36 that looks lovely on you! I have the skirt and think it works for winter too. You could wear the dress over a thin merino turtle or crew neck? It would also be lovely with a cardigan over.

I am still unsure about my workwear dresses. Love the soft fabric. Maybe better over a crew neck or a polo neck. I feel very creative in them like I’m about to go and create a masterpiece (I am not at all creative in real life Grin) I have the blue and the olive. Decision decisions....

Railings I really like both of them on you..
Wish I had hot those now

Laska2Meryls · 28/06/2020 17:50

Got!! ..

ilovecherries · 28/06/2020 18:20

No, It's this one, laska www.toa.st/uk/search/keywords+are+kala/kala.htm The one you are thinking of is the Zoya. That came down to about £45 with JL so I decided it was a good buy.

I think you should keep that dress - if they still had one, I'd be tempted. The name is off-putting, but they are actually the kind of dress that lends itself to comfy living.

ilovecherries · 28/06/2020 18:22

I see you have both - I can understand why, but personally I know when I buy two the same, I end up with a favourite, and don't wear the other. But they will both suit you.

faustina · 28/06/2020 18:45

@Railingsohno they both look great on you!

BerniceBobsHerHair · 28/06/2020 20:25

railings I think you are the kind of person who looks great in everything. So the workwear dresses look good but being super critical I think not as good as the other things you've posted (ikat skirt, baukjen dress). They look a touch too big too but I do see the appeal. Agree with cherries on picking your fave.
Moomin I thought the kado worked well with a t-shirt under it but sounds like you are not 100% sold on it? Perhaps best to let it go if you don't feel it's 'you'.
I love the colours on the kala but the shape didn't suit me.
The ikat dress is lovely apples

Moominmammaatsea · 28/06/2020 20:25

ilovecherries, I knew I was officially middle-aged when I bought not one or even two of things I loved, but three as a double ‘just in case’. I reckon that I’ve learned through trial and error - and painful experience - what works for me and my lifestyle and life circumstances, so it makes life easier not to have to think about what T-shirt to wear today; I’ll simply wear a clean version of the T-shirt I wore yesterday and then tomorrow I’ll probably wear the third one.

It works for me and means I don’t have to give too much headspace to clothes (slightly ironic, I know, as I have really enjoyed participating in the Toast & Toast2 threads). I’ve certainly got much pickier as I’ve got older and I’ve learned to trust my gut; if I love it, I buy it (then I buy two more), wear it into the ground (someone up thread mentioned about never saving things for best and I couldn’t agree more) and then pass it onto my mum (who is the most stylish 70-something I know) to live a second life.

And, after a few years, I may reclaim a couple of things because I’m looking at them through a different prism. It’s a bit like the return of a great friend who emigrated for a few years; they were always in my heart, but we were both busy getting on with our respective lives! Smile

Alsohuman · 28/06/2020 20:32

That’s always been my philosophy too Moomin. A few years ago when I had to look corporate - thank goodness those days have gone - I found the perfect wide leg trousers, everything about them was spot on. I bought two pairs of black and two navy and wore all four pairs into the ground. I was heartbroken when I had to concede they were too shabby for work.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 28/06/2020 20:57

Can't seem to get these the right way up. Jumpsuit i love and kado with t-shirt for moomin Grin

goldpendant · 28/06/2020 21:19

@BerniceBobsHerHair the Kado and t-shirt combo looks great - wish I'd thought of that before I returned mine!

Saurus72 · 28/06/2020 21:20

@Moominmammaatsea Ah yes it was me who said I never save anything for best. As I get older (I’m mid-40s) I believe that more and more. If I have it I wear it all the time. I generally don’t buy multiples, except of Uniqlo merino jumpers that I wear September-April in loads of colours. I do regret not buying two of the almond print dress from earlier this year because I believe it to be the perfect dress. But generally, I think that there will always be something more fabulous and more brilliant around the corner and I love adding new lovely pieces into my wardrobe. Clothes, when they’re beautiful and fit well and make you not have to fidget or feel uncomfortable, are and always have been one of the biggest joys in my life. I spend hours and hours considering what to buy (and what not to buy). I make very few mistakes now as I just know what works for me. Although I do think this makes me slightly less adventurous. But overall, the lack of unworn items in my wardrobe means that’s probably a good compromise compared to all the money I wasted in my twenties trying to work out who I was.

Saurus72 · 28/06/2020 21:22

Also, @BerniceBobsHerHair that jumpsuit looks absolutely fantastic. V jealous, my legs are too short and fat for anything like that.
