I also ordered this Baukjen dress. I got a size below my normal size as that’s all there was. It’s a bit tight around my arms, and upper back. I love the pattern though and it has pockets! Not sure as I think the tightness will annoy me.

I’m not being hard on myself @ilovecherries. I’d honestly look like a wandering dementia sufferer if I went out in it. It’s not particularly transparent and it’s very nice so at that price I’m fine with wearing it to bed! It’s the kind of thing I could get away with when I was young but not now.

Railingsohno · 26/06/2020 12:28
@Railingsohno it looks nice!

I don’t like anything tight on the waist either, especially in summer. Comfort is top priority, that’s why I buy Toast.

Sit for ten mins in the skirt and see how you feel before making any irreversible changes.
Good advice! Thanks. I love the tulip shape.

simplificate · 26/06/2020 12:49

Love the bakujen dress on you railingsoho what's the fabric composition? Likelier to grow or shrink with wash and wear?

I wear the Whistles barrels with ankle boots in winter, shows just a sliver of wool sock when I sit down for max grandpa chic Grin

Maybe I need to try with a more classic Chelsea boot?

The dress is 100% cotton. I’m wondering if it can be made slightly bigger around the arms/upper back?

Countmeout · 26/06/2020 13:49

Love that dress @Railingohno , looks great on. Does cotton maybe give a bit?

My Massimo Dutti order arrived with impressive speed but is a total fail. I think I have decided wide legs in actual jean material are not for me.

Fair enough. Grin. Wandering dementia sufferer is def not the look to something for.

AIM for, ffs!

ilovecherries · 26/06/2020 14:15

Can I ask what you think of these trousers? Toast Japanese linen, from two years ago. These are a medium and I’ve lost a bit more weight since then. I’m not sure if they are still hitting ‘artfully oversized’ or if they have reached ‘wtf are you thinking of’ status. Very comfy, obviously!

It’s a lovely dress, railing. It certainly doesn’t look too small so it really depends on if you feel it will be uncomfortable and annoy you in hot weather.

whatsthatnow74 · 26/06/2020 15:19

Ooh, following with interest...

Alsohuman · 26/06/2020 15:44

Artfully oversized @ilovecherries.

fizzpopbang123 · 26/06/2020 17:39

@Railingsohno

Ikat skirt arrived in at 8. It’s from Toast so still £95 a bit ouch. The 10 was too big but the 8 is very slightly snug around the waist, I don’t like feeling constructed. I absolutely love it so I may see if I can have the back pleats very slightly taken out.
Forgive me for not going back to check, @Railingsohno; was the size 10 cheaper (from JL?) and have you sent it back? Surely if you are going to get one altered, it would make sense to get the bigger and cheaper size taken in, rather than the smaller, more expensive version made bigger?
Railingsohno · 26/06/2020 17:46

@fizzpopbang

It’s so marginal with the 8 I think it’s a quicker job. The 10 was huge on my hips and loose around my waist. The 8 is fine but might benefit from being let out a cm. The way it’s constructed I think it’s easier that way. Also I don’t quite trust someone to get the tulip shape right if they were resizing it. A few cm out of a pleat at the back is more difficult to mess up!

Railingsohno · 26/06/2020 17:47

Ps have sent the 10 back already unfortunately. But yes with £40 difference it is actually a good point!

fizzpopbang123 · 26/06/2020 17:52

Ha, I'm not a tailor, so no idea of which is best option, I was just thinking of the cost!! I feel your pain, I am pretty much a UK9 which obviously doesn't exist, so often have this debate with myself. I can drive myself crazy, and waste hours in front of a mirror, with the deliberations of whether to go smaller or bigger sometimes!

Countmeout · 26/06/2020 20:56

They look very comfie @ilovecherries so I’d plump for artfully oversized.

Is it a button at the waist @Railingsohno if so could you use a little elastic to make it looser by threading through - obviously would need top untucked maybe for that. I’m a clueless though and would do anything to avoid alteration if I could .

@Railingsohno, I have the Ikat skirt in a 10 (my normal Toast size) and I found it surprisingly snug around the waist, too. I felt slightly constricted at first and contemplated returning it but I loved the tulip shape and the Japanese vibe. I realised that it was a new shape for me and was so high waisted that it virtually touched the bottom of my rib cage (and I’m long waisted). I’m so used to everything else I wear being fairly low slung because they’re roomy around the waist that it was a strange sensation. I wore the skirt out and I’m not sure if I’d simply got my head around the new fit and feel or if the fabric had given slightly, but the second time I wore it, it felt natural, normal and comfortable.

That’s heartening thank you @Moominmammaatsea

Yes I was thinking I should wear it a bit higher up. I think it will be lovely with a thin polo neck in the winter too.

I really love the shape and I know what you mean about the Japanese vibe Smile

Moominmammaatsea · 26/06/2020 23:10

@Railingsohno, yes, you have to think Simon Cowell! Grin I have been wearing mine with a John Lewis Kin cropped wide heavyweight Breton, which kind of feels counterintuitive, because it seems to be reinforcing the width of hips etc and then it got me thinking about fashion history and the Georgian women who would have to walk sideways through doors because their dresses were too wide! Anyway, I love my skirt and have had a few compliments, from people who know me and people who don’t.

Grin at Mr Cowell.

I’ve got a couple of tight fitting Bretons that would work. Do you tuck in?

Laska2Meryls · 27/06/2020 09:13

Ikat skirt and Breton sounds really good combination.. I think this Toast oatmeal striped tee would look fab with it.

Laska2Meryls · 27/06/2020 09:17

Cherries trousers still looking good on you, I must dig mine out !

They were def on the saggy side after a day of wear, but they are so comfy and cool.
Laska2Meryls · 27/06/2020 09:39

Darn. More stuff fell into my basket!! Seems like I cannot walk away..
Leaf trousers , ikat skirt ( I shall have to stalk JL again for a cheaper) , and the oatmeal top linked aboveHmm

And they have released more New In stock, some seriously nice things ... Toast love continues! 😍
