I'm so cross about the tag! Hopefully it'll come back into stock

I hope you like yours @Saurus72

AuldFox · 14/07/2020 17:47

That is mega annoying @faustina especially in the middle of a pandemic!

ilovecherries · 14/07/2020 18:06

faustina, is it worth taking it into a Sainsbury’s or another supermarket which sells clothes, along with the receipt? I once threw myself on the mercy of Sainsbury’s CS with a monsoon dress with the security tag. After they’d seen the receipt, they just removed it for me. How annoying though.

Countmeout · 14/07/2020 18:26

Goodness @faustine that’s so annoying. Have you someone who can remove it?

Many years ago my daughter bought a handbag in London and we were home before we realised - her then boyfriend got it off somehow. Not sure how though.

That’s so annoying. I had the same thing with a Jaeger leather jacket a few years ago and had to send the bloody thing back to have the tag removed. Fortunately they gave me a healthy discount to cover the postage and as a goodwill gesture.

You’d think they’d equip Waitrose branches to remove them if it’s so common.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/07/2020 19:33

I had this to me. Fortunately my dh managed to take it off. No idea how he did it.

faustina · 14/07/2020 19:37

I've tried TK Maxx, Waitrose and a shop called M and co - and the person there said they used to work at Tesco (my last shot idea) - and that Tesco didn't have the same kind of tags. That's about it in the nearest small town to me. Someone on Facebook suggested pliers but I think the picture on the tag indicates ink might spray out?

I shall keep hold of it for a bit and see if any others come back into stock. It's a complete pain as it's really nice!

Ive never seen a tag like that before. What a pain!

neveradullmoment99 · 14/07/2020 20:27

legalbeagle.com/6129369-do-security-ink-tags-work.html

It explains its use here. Really ridiculous. Damage the garment. What an absolute waste.

AuldFox · 14/07/2020 20:32

Oh yeah, definitely don’t try to remove that tag yourself! The ink stain will be permanent.

faustina · 14/07/2020 20:55

@neveradullmoment99 - thanks, that was interesting. I think this one sets off alarms too though - I definitely beeped when I walked into TK Maxx!

Moominmammaatsea · 14/07/2020 21:01

@faustina, just wondering if it would be worth putting out an appeal on a local website for anyone who will be physically shopping in your nearest JL who would be happy to take your garment in to have the tag removed? A bar of chocolate, a bunch of flowers or a bottle of wine might be sufficient recompense - and then I would tweet/email JL customer services to negotiate a £10 gift voucher for the inconvenience!

Moominmammaatsea · 14/07/2020 21:04

Alternatively, I’m not sure if you’re close to your nearest JL store (I should definitely RTFT!) but maybe John Lewis could arrange to have a partner meet you in a SD way at a door to take the garment from you and then return it with the tag removed?

faustina · 14/07/2020 21:25

@Moominmammaatsea - if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic it really wouldn't be big deal, but the journey would involve public transport and the John Lewis is in a big shopping centre - both things I don't really want to do (not to remove a security tag anyway!)

Although I asked if there was somewhere local who could remove the tag, I hadn't thought of asking on Facebook if someone was going there anyway - that's a good idea, thank you!

Moominmammaatsea · 14/07/2020 21:35

@faustina, no, I get it, really I do, I hope you didn’t think I was being facetious - and I appreciate the issues with public transport, I was simply trying to be helpful. I’m a problem solver by nature, I think - and by default, as a single parent to two adopted children, one of who is registered blind and the other who is too little for diagnoses just yet. Anyway, I hope you get some offers of help on your local website - if not, my preteen, who is a science geek, has suggested a strong magnet (because every household should apparently have one of these 😂).

Seriously, though, if you tweeted JL customer service, I would like to think that you could post the shirt back for them to remove the tag and then send it back to you?

faustina · 14/07/2020 21:49

@Moominmammaatsea - I thought you were trying to be helpful - and you were ! I didn't mean to sound tetchy Smile

Agree the best solution would be if I could post it back - or even if they could send a tag remover to Waitrose and they were the things I suggested when I called customer services yesterday but all they could do was offer me a refund or for me to go into the store. Perhaps I’ll call again in the morning and speak to a manager, now I know it’s apparently happened frequently recently they should be a bit more flexible. Please thank your preteen for their very sensible suggestion Smile

Laska2Meryls · 15/07/2020 06:48

How frustrating Faustina I suppose that its because it would be posted to the warehouse where they wouldn't have a rag remover ( I think they are put on in shops themselves) . But usually JL customer service is better than that..

Laska2Meryls · 15/07/2020 06:51

I am hoping that my Alix and slate linen trousers will arrive from JL today. And hopefully the Steve Mono sandals from Toast ..
I also ordered some of the £18 linen trousers from JL as they look like a great bargain

Countmeout · 15/07/2020 08:31

Well my limited experience of John Lewis customer service is not as optimistic as Laskas. It’s such a pain, I do believe a strong magnet can help but not sure where you’d get one. What is the return period, is there not a likely hood of things improving before then?

The Alix trousers are wonderful @Laska2Meryls I’ve hardly had them off. (Weather still poor 😕)

My collared wool cardigan arrived today - this one but direct from Toast www.johnlewis.com/toast-wool-cotton-collared-cardigan-pale-gold/p4843400
It’s not as wonderful as I had hoped it would be after a quick try on. Sad to say it might be going back.

Laska2Meryls · 15/07/2020 10:17

Oh I loved that Painty is it tts?

neveradullmoment99 · 15/07/2020 10:40

@faustina I would persevere. I think it wouldn't be that hard for you to sent it back to them so that they could take it off and repost. How difficult can that be? I would totally push for it. It is a sale for them after all.

paintyhands · 15/07/2020 10:46

@Laska2Meryls I’d say it’s on the big side - I got a M and could have done with a S ideally. It’s really boxy and it just doesn’t look special enough for £110 sale price. It feels lovely though. I’ll try it on again when I’ve more time later but pretty sure it’s going back which is really disappointing as I’ve been looking for something like this for ages! Now I’m on a mission to find something similar elsewhere.

Laska2Meryls · 15/07/2020 10:53

Oh yes for £110 it would have to be perfect.
I have a 20% mention me now , I may order this gorgeous jumper. But what I think ill do is order it full price first ( so as not to waste my code) and if I love it I will return and then reorder using the code

neveradullmoment99 · 15/07/2020 10:59

@paintyhands, a few years back seasalt used to do similar collared cable cardigans. They were thick and made of wool though.
Lovely quality though.
@Laska2Meryls I love that jumper. Its stunning. For me thought I find I don't really wear thick jumpers. I buy them, loving them but they don't tend to make it out much from my wardrobe. Interesting to see how thick it is. Only the hush cashmere boyfriend ones are thin but warm. The gorgeous oatmeal Toast one I have worn about 3 times in winter.
