@Numbat26

I have never posted before but just want to say this thread gave me to oomph to bite the bullet for Toast international postage!! Loving the commentary and picks. So pleased with my items Smile May be the start of a dangerous $30 postage addiction....
Ohh, what did you buy?
Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 09:31

Amethyst, all the JL plastic packaging is recyclable and biodegradable.

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 09:35

faustina, I have that linen jumper in juniper and I love it because half sleeves! I’ve been wearing mine over my Jessa denim dungarees and and with my Maud skirt, plus over my JL-priced white poplin shirt.

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 09:37

Welcome numbat26, it’s compulsory to spill the beans about your purchases! 😆

faustina · 11/07/2020 10:58

@Countmeout - it was me and @Saurus72 who ordered the stripey t-shirt !

@Moominmammaatsea - it is really lovely and I'm quite tempted, but I live in a brick and flint cottage (and wfh) - and here, if anything more than a t-shirt is needed, it has to have sleeves to pull over cold hands!

faustina · 11/07/2020 11:02

also - yes, I use all my JL packaging for Ebaying - especially the grey plastic bags. They used to be terrible for putting tiny things into huge cardboard boxes surrounded by that giant bubblewrap stuff. I would unwrap things at the Waitrose where I pick stuff up and leave it all there. They've got much better in the past few years

Numbat26 · 11/07/2020 11:04

Anni skirt, loop back jumpsuit, ida dress and the white pin tuck dress... had to get max value from that shipping cost!
The Anni skirt is my absolute fave, the fastening is so clever without a zip, have worn it loads already. Glad I went with TruFit sizing recommendations!

I am much more of a winter clothes person really but where I live is warm 70% of the time so trying to wear nicer summer clothes Smile

Saurus72 · 11/07/2020 11:22

@faustina Do you have your stripy top yet? I’m planning to wear mine under my pinafore dress when I need some thing warmer than a blouse so hope it works.

faustina · 11/07/2020 11:41

@Saurus72 - it's arriving on Monday. I'm a bit worried because the shoulders seem fairly neat fitting but I've sized up. Do you have yours yet? I'd love to see when you do!

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 11:48

If anyone is in the market for some very stylish and classy bargainous trainers/pumps, check out the Victoria Shoes Barcelona Deportiva at JL. I bought a pair for my preteen and they are really beautifully made (another heritage brand). Reduced from £72.50 to £11.60! Definitely size up, though, as they are very small.

Saurus72 · 11/07/2020 11:51

No don’t have mine yet and yes, I sized up too. I also bought the white linen boy t-shirt from JL (£16.50 reduced from £55 😊) to wear around the house with PJ bottoms. I bought XL in that and it’s oversized but not stupidly so sizing up sensible I reckon. The stripy top isn’t something I’d usually buy but I think it will be good for wfh in autumn, looks fab quality!

Countmeout · 11/07/2020 13:03

Sorry @faustina obviously especially confused this morning.. I especially Ike the blue and white (?) stripe top.

My cardigan has arrived. It’s like a warm hug. It is the same colour as my jumper so I’m very pleased. Incidentally for anyone who has it I washed the jumper in the machine ( 15 mins at 20 degrees) even though it says hand wash and I will do the same for the cardigan. The sleeves are quite generous in width. Reluctantly took it off in case I dropped my lunch on it..
Sounds like great buys @Numbat26. I wish I lived somewhere where it was warm 70% of the time. I love summer clothes.

Has anyone added up how much your sale purchases would have cost at full price? For the Toast clothes, my savings are:

  1. Anokhi khaki/orange dress £52 down from £175. Saving: £123
  2. White linen t-shirt £16.50 down from £55 Saving: £38.50
  3. Navy Franca jersey dress £70 down from £140 Saving: £70
  4. Stripy l/s t-shirt £32 down from £69. Saving £37

£268 saved I think, £140 spent. Ok!

I have.

Linen dress £39, was £130
Jacket £70, was £175
Nina dress £80, was £160

I’ve spent £189, which would have been £465 out of the sale. Saving £276. Bring on the next sale!

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 14:29

@Saurus72, I’m a bit too scared to participate in this, but I will do. I will preface by saying that my figure includes a kantha throw I intend to use to revitalise my well-loved sofa of 25 years (reduced by £100 on the Toast website) & I have recently had a surprise windfall on the family’s premium bonds. Back later when I’ve worked everything out!

Laska2Meryls · 11/07/2020 14:43

Oooo I am scared also ..
I have made nearly 800 on ebay selling old work stuff though in the last month ..

ilovecherries · 11/07/2020 14:54

Toasties, can I have your input on the dregs of the JL sale that arrived today.

  1. workwear jacket. This is a 14 so it’s on the large side but not horribly so. There is room for a decent jumper. I’m conflicted because I’m not convinced I will wear a jacket at all this year. Dog walking waterproof and that’s it.

  2. Seth linen shirt. It’s a VERY heavy linen, but amazing quality. Do I look like I’m about to either rustle up a Michelin star meal or fill your teeth?

  3. parchment canvas trousers. Very high waisted but comfy. Not a super practical colour but thick enough for transitional wear.

Keep or return?

I’m thinking the Seth shirt may work under the Kala dress.

Laska2Meryls · 11/07/2020 15:13

ooh Iove it all Cherries . I have worn that jacket Loads ( and I am only going out to the supermarket , .. DH says its my 'Monty Don' jacket !!
and £55! you have to keep..
Trousers fab , Are they the Alix?
Shirt also great , (I'll have a flat white please and a piece of your delicious apricot tart! Wink Grin, NO.. keep its fab..

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 15:14

cherries, I may be going against the grain here but I love the Seth shirt (along with my Ivar jacket, and the cotton linen coat dress, it’s my new favourite garment). I think it’s a flattering shape (I’m the antithesis of body conscious dressing) and it embodies the Japanese vibe I aspire to. My new favourite outfit is a fine cotton tee, Jessa denim dungarees, Seth shirt over & then my Ivar; my best friend calls it my Chairman Mao look but, for me, that is a compliment! 😂

I like the items on you in this order of preference: Seth shirt, parchment trousers and workwear jacket (I think it looks a bit too roomy on you, sorry).

Moominmammaatsea · 11/07/2020 15:15

cherries, I think the jacket would look better with a slimmer bottom half (skinny jeans?)

Laska2Meryls · 11/07/2020 15:34

Um... well I reckon I am going to win this game (to my shame)
I cannot find original prices for it all but here it is:
Paid/Original:
Zoya dress 51/170
Mexican Tile dress 55/??
Triangle Dress 55/140
Bone short sleeve jumper 37.50/125
Naguisa Espadrilles 110/???
Cercle bag 79/140
Olive linen vest 15/50
Gingham Pjs 65/125
workwear jacket 55/185
guanabana belt 30 /59

so have spent 552 in the sale !! BlushBlushBlushBlush, but ful price would have been at least double £1119 (plus whatever the things I cannot find would have been)

And I bought the new charcoal grandad shirt , but did get 15% off that...

AND still coming: Jude trousers in olive from JL and Short sleeve jumper in Cinnamon from Toast and then there's the black Steve mono sandals that I didn't mention earlier. No not me, I wouldn't have ordered those

But there was that all ebay £££ from getting rid of old work stuff .. (so actually I did win ..?)

AuldFox · 11/07/2020 15:41

I’ve added it all up but I won’t list it all here. Spent just over £900 (full price who knows?) I think I may have you beat Laska! No regrets, I have a very healthy clothes budget and I’ve spent very little of it this year Smile

faustina · 11/07/2020 16:08

@ilovecherries - the jacket and the trousers look fabulous - especially the jacket. That blue really suits you!

I was going through my John Lewis orders and there is quite a lot I'm still waiting to be refunded. Toast have been much quicker off the mark

Laska2Meryls · 11/07/2020 16:28

Ok I have been saved ! JL order came, Alix trousers far too big as suggested above,.. ( though I did like them ., but id have to have a 10 or 12 )
Jude Trousers ridiculous on me ! I am not keen on the colour anyway , ( what my DM would have called 'Cowpat brown' Grin . Very fitted on waist and the balloon out. Also cotton twill fabric creased and would be difficult to maintain I think..
Here are photos so that you can have a good laugh! I am really quite slim hipped ..Grin
