faustina and cherries, I couldn’t agree more about these threads being lifelines; I’ve mentioned briefly about my preteen suddenly and unexpectedly losing her sight (she’s now registered blind). I don’t know why there is such judgement about people (of any genders) enjoying and spending money on clothes. Some people choose to have their bodies tattooed in order to signal characteristics of their personality and identity to the outside world, others may prioritise spending on their hair, bookshelves, gardens, cars or homes to do so. Some folk actually do all of these - and more. Personally speaking, I fall into several of these categories!
I guess if we were starving our children or loved ones in order to fund a fashion or shopping addiction, then we would/could be inviting criticism of our priorities.
I’m much poorer since having children but I’m a canny shopper who always stocks up on Toast in the JL 70 per cent off sale, because I know what I like and what suits me and I prefer to invest in clothing that has longevity. Far rather a Toast wool and cotton jumper that feels like a little piece of heaven every time I wear it (£48 instead of £160) than a boring, boxy knit from M&S (my personal bête noir), say, for not much less.
cherries, I’m so sorry to hear about your business and all the other challenges you’re facing currently - I really hope things start to improve soon for you and your family.
