@Countmeout thanks - that’s lovely, I’ll keep an eye out for that on eBay .

Alsohuman · 01/07/2020 11:27

It is lovely, so glad I didn’t imagine it! I’m really hoping they’ll do it again this winter.

Saurus72 · 01/07/2020 11:50

Does anyone have either of the denim dresses (not in the sale)? I’m very tempted, especially because I have a growing feeling I will likely be wfh for most of the rest of this year and I think it would be a decent wardrobe addition. Am mainly asking to get sizing info as I would like to try both styles, so I really would prefer to only order one size of each - becomes unmanageable otherwise 😬. Any advice welcome - I am a 14 in the tie-neck dress and the denim pinafore dresses, Medium in the Franca dress, 12 in the Anokhi print shirt dress in the sale. Thanks.

@Saurus72 I’m not going to be very helpful as I don’t have either! I like the collarless one as it’s a bit different and more Toast like. The collated kind is a more generic denim dress. The first one could be belted in or worn as a tunic. Only issue for me is I look better in a collar! The round neck doesn’t suit me so much.

Hope you don’t mind my tuppence worth!

Currently packing for a camping trip and not taking any of my gorgeous Toast things-sob!

Saurus72 · 01/07/2020 12:10

Camping! From what I hear prices for campsites have gone through the roof?! We’ve just booked an Air B&B in Northumberland - it’s a replacement for a European holiday which isn’t an option this year and tbh just v glad to have something concrete to look forward to!

I really like the look of both of them but what puts me off the collared one slightly is a lot of people say it’s heavy. It may be something I leave til I can try on in a shop. Expensive ordering multiple sizes, plus heavy returns. Hmmm. But now it’s on my mind and I know I won’t rest til I’ve decided what to do...!

ilovecherries · 01/07/2020 12:14

I bought the cord version of the collared denim one last winter. I was able to size down one size from my normal Toast size. However I sent it back as it was like wearing a coat indoors. I just couldn’t get comfy in it.

Astrabees · 01/07/2020 12:16

I love Toast but am limited by being 5'3" when it comes to the dresses. some of them are so long they actually drag on the floor when I try them on. I have a lot of their knitwear, tops t shirts and a lovely herringbone pattern wool coat. dh also bought me some very expensive lace up boots that are made of such exquisite leather I tend to look at them more than wear them. I've noticed the comments above about customer service and I have found that the staff in the shops tend to be very snotty indeed. Even if i am wearing Toast when i go they seldom aproach me or ask if they can help. Bath branch is the worst. I actually went in there to buy an ochre velvet column dress just before Christmas last year and despite pulling it off the rack and holding it up the attended to other people who came into the shop after me. I wandered to the changing room with it but still ignored as someone else was ushered in, so I put it back and left. Maybe I look shifty or poor, but it puts me off going back. Cheltenham staff are OK but they have very low stock levels there.

ilovecherries · 01/07/2020 12:16

I found these in my underbed storage Blush. Completely forgot I bought them in the autumn sale last year. Alix in a cotton cashmere mix. Love them.

@Saurus72- I have tried the denim dress with the collar and found the sizing very generous. I sent it back, partly because it was too big and partly because I felt the fabric was autumn/winter weight and the short sleeves were therefore a bit incongruous

Alsohuman · 01/07/2020 12:23

Astrabees, please wear the boots! They’re to be loved and enjoyed. It’s such a shame to have lovely things and not wear them.

That’s really bad news about the customer service in Toast shops. They’re going to have to up their game now because I reckon there’s going to be a lot less money about.

Saurus72 · 01/07/2020 12:32

Thanks @ilovecherries and @LanternHill. That’s my fear, it will be stiff and bulky. I have one from Sezane which is more casual, v comfy and soft. I also have a Boden one which is much stiffer and less comfy but smarter. Think I’m kind of looking for something between the two.

Saurus72 · 01/07/2020 12:33

Oh yes @Astrabees - wear the boots wear the boots! No point having something so beautiful and not enjoying them!

Countmeout · 01/07/2020 12:41

Like those Alix trousers @ilovecherries, I’m wearing mine today and they’re so comfortable- Do the winter weight ones wash or are they dry clean, I hate dry clean.
I’m very far from a Toast shop but have been in a few , there was a lovely helpful girl in one near Boxpark, can’t remember what shop that is. But I did encounter what you’re describing @Astrabees in Nottinghill. One staff member seemed to think I was unworthy but thankfully another was absolutely lovely. I did wonder if you were wearing Toast if it helped (I wasn’t)

These ones are washable, count, but they are quite lightweight. Summer-in-Scotland weight, not winter weight.

ilovecherries · 01/07/2020 12:55

I’ve only been in Edinburgh and Harrogate - both are quite small, I’m not sure if that’s standard? The staff in both have been very helpful. Too helpful when it comes to suggesting other things to try on!

Railingsohno · 01/07/2020 12:56

@ilovecherries love those!!!

Our local Toast shop is fab. They’re super friendly and nice. Mind you where I live is a very friendly place.

@Saurus72 we are going to Northumbria too! To be fair it was only £90 for 3 nights. We are going away in August too which is a slightly smarter affair (relative to a tent anyway!)

Railingsohno · 01/07/2020 12:57

I always meet really interesting people in Toast too. Our shop becomes a very communal affair with everyone commenting on each other’s try ons!

JulesJules · 01/07/2020 14:13

My Ume dress arrived and I love it, a definite keeper. The other dress I was going to order, then it went o/s, came back into stock so now I'm waiting for that one (Riya). Love the colours, but think it might suit flatter chests than mine 😁

Saurus72 · 01/07/2020 14:23

The staff in the Islington and Cambridge shops have been fine with me. There’s a younger woman in her 20s in Islington who is always lovely and intelligent - it makes a big difference. I had to call round to try and track down a dress that I had missed getting online - there was one in stock in my size in the whole country and she was so brilliant and helpful on the phone.

faustina · 01/07/2020 14:29

@ilovecherries - those Alix trousers look lovely. Do you wear them with boots when it isn't summer - and if so, which kind?

My local Toast branch in Cambridge is always worryingly empty when I go in but they couldn't be more helpful - and even though it's very small, they have quite a lot stashed away and always seem happy to bring it down for you to try

ilovecherries · 01/07/2020 16:49

Faustina, they really aren’t warm enough for winter - they are a very fine knit. I could probably wear them in the autumn, in which case DM brogues plus socks. I have a complex injury to my R leg, and so my shoe choices are very limited - trainers with orthotics, fitflop sandals and DMs (boots or shoes) with orthotics.

Can I get everyone's opinions on this dress? It's the brushed cotton workwear dress. I'm not sure if it swamps me or not...it's so comfy I really don't want to send it back!

@Uponmytiptoes, I don’t think it swamps you at all, it looks good to me but bear in mind, I like clothes a bit looser than the vast majority of MN so maybe I’m not the best person to listen to.

I'm the same, I love baggy clothes but I do worry if I can pull it off.

I love it, but again, I don’t wear form fitting clothes. I really feel there is a big difference between wearing clothes that are too big for you, and clothes that are oversized by design. I think this falls into the latter.
